Chapter 392 Unexpected Interlude

Edward's voice boomed through the phone. "If it means taking down the Griffin Group and Nicholas for good, then the money's worth it."

I couldn't agree more with him.

"Yeah, as long as the project goes smoothly, the returns we'll get will totally outweigh this investment. This is the key move to break the deadlock," I replied.

David, standing next to me, slapped his thigh in excitement, his eyes lighting up. He spoke into the phone, "Alright, let's go with this plan!"

He then turned to me and said, "Diana, get in touch with Lila right away. I'll head back to the office to organize the clues we've collected so far. We can give them to her; it might help with her investigation."

I picked up my phone, my fingers trembling slightly as I dialed Lila's number. I hadn't spoken to her in a while because of work. I wondered what she had been up to lately.

The phone rang, but all I got was a busy signal.

David frowned, rubbing his hands together anxiously, his eyes full of anticipation. Even though Edward was on the other end of the line, I could sense his tension through his slightly heavier breathing.

The room was now filled with a growing sense of tension.

Finally, Lila's voice came through, with some background noise indicating she was moving things around. "Diana?"

"It's me." I steadied myself and said, "I need your help with something urgent."

"What's so urgent?" Lila asked, and I could hear the faint rustling of papers.

"It's about the Griffin Group and Nicholas," I replied.

I briefly explained the current project's difficulties, the obstacles posed by the Griffin Group and Nicholas, and our hope that Lila could investigate their scandals and find evidence.

There was a moment of silence on the other end before Lila spoke, "This is no small matter, Diana. It's hard to discuss over the phone. Can you come to my place? We can talk in person."

I glanced at David, who was listening intently, and replied without hesitation, "Sure, I'll be right over. Wait for me."

David's eyes lit up with excitement. "Great, talking in person will be much clearer. You go ahead. We'll split up and regroup after you get back from Lila's."

I hurried out and hailed a cab to Lila's place. It was midday, and the sunlight streamed through the car windows, making it hard to keep my eyes open. The streets were bustling with people, but I paid no attention to the scene outside.

Soon, the cab stopped at the entrance of Lila's apartment complex. I took a deep breath and quickly walked to her door, ringing the bell.

The door opened swiftly, and Lila, dressed in casual clothes with her hair tied back, greeted me. A few strands of hair framed her face, and her forehead was dotted with sweat.

"Come on in. I just finished tidying up, so it's a bit messy. Don't mind it," she said.

She stepped aside to let me in. I followed her to the living room. As I entered, I saw Lucas and Alaric sitting on the couch.Alaric's eyes lit up when he saw me. "Diana, what brings you here?"

Lucas gave me a polite smile and stood up. "Diana, welcome. Have a seat."

I smiled back and sat down. Lila moved some books from the couch and said, "They were just discussing the handover of Lucas's tech project to Alaric. Since you needed to talk to me, I thought you could join us."

I couldn't help but ask, "Lucas, I'm really curious. You've done so much in tech. Are you really ready to give it all up to be a traveling artist? That's a big change."

Lucas leaned back on the couch, looking excited. "I've always dreamed of being a traveling artist. Even though I've done well in tech, my passion for painting has never gone away. Now, with Alaric interested and capable, I'm ready to hand over the project and chase my dream."

Alaric adjusted his glasses and said, "I've worked with Lucas for a long time, and the project is going well. We're familiar with each other. I'll keep pushing it forward, using our resources and tech to grow the business. Plus, I hope to deepen our collaboration with the Cooper Group for mutual benefit."

I nodded. "That's great. Lucas can follow his dream, and Alaric can bring new growth to the project. It might even create new opportunities for the Cooper Group. But after Lucas leaves, what are your plans for the future?" I asked, holding Lila's hand with concern.

Lila looked at Lucas with gentle eyes. "I've always supported him in pursuing what he truly wants. He's worked hard for our family and career for years. Now that he has a chance to follow his dream, I fully support him."

She smiled and continued, "I'll stay in Wind City and keep running my law firm. After years of hard work, the firm has grown in size and reputation. I can't just let it go. Plus, I love being a lawyer and helping people protect their rights. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment."

Lucas looked at Lila with deep affection. "I understand Lila's dedication to her career. She has unique insights and expertise in the legal field. The firm is like her child, and she won't give it up easily. Pursuing my dream of painting requires time and space, and traveling alone might be the best way for me. Even though we're choosing different paths, our mutual understanding and support remain unchanged."

Lila nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "Yes, even though we'll be apart for a while, our hearts are always together. When Lucas gets tired of wandering, he can always come home."

I sighed with admiration. "You two are so understanding and supportive of each other. It's truly enviable."

Suddenly, a sense of unease washed over me. I glanced between Lucas and Lila and couldn't help but ask, "By the way, does Nicholas know about the tech project handover? Given his nature, he might try to interfere."
