Chapter 209 The Opportunity to Eliminate the Enemy
Edward's usually stern face turned dark, his voice icy and sharp.
"Don't let that filthy scene mess with your eyes!" He tightened his grip on my hand, his anger practically radiating through his fingers.
I stopped walking, waited for Edward to turn around, and looked up at him, asking, "What? Your girlfriend's flirting with another guy, and you're pissed?"
"I wouldn't get mad over someone like that," Edward replied, though his voice was laced with barely contained rage.
I teased, "Didn't think Mr. Howard was so forgiving."
Edward's eyes narrowed in anger. He stepped forward, his presence suddenly overwhelming. Before I knew it, my back hit the wall hard.
He pinned me against the wall, his hands on either side of me, trapping me. His face was so close I could see the veins on his forehead pulsing with anger. His eyes were filled with fury and a hint of irritation. His breath, reeking of alcohol, mixed with his unique scent, making the air between us thick and tense.
My heart pounded as I realized my teasing had pushed him over the edge. I regretted my words, my body trembling slightly. I looked around for Orval, but he was nowhere to be found.
I wanted to escape, but there was no way out.
Just as I was about to lose hope, a clear, slightly coquettish voice broke the tension. "Edward, why did you come out?" Aria asked.
Edward was taken aback, clearly not expecting Aria, who had been drinking with another man, to show up.
He awkwardly let go of my arm, standing there coldly, saying nothing.
Aria moved quickly, grabbing Edward's arm, her voice sweet and playful. "Darling, why did you leave without saying anything? I just finished talking with the producers, and I can join that reality show. Aren't you happy for me?"
"Of course, I'm happy for you," Edward responded mechanically, but his eyes never left me.
In his gaze, I saw a mix of anger, curiosity, and a hint of panic.
Aria finally noticed me, a mocking smile on her lips. "Diana, I didn't expect to see you here! Edward brought me to meet some producers and directors today. I'm about to join a reality show. You can keep guarding your shabby live streaming room."
With that, she held Edward's hand and started to leave. Hearing Aria's words, I couldn't help but think of the show Nicholas had recommended to me. A bunch of questions popped into my head, so I asked, "Are you talking about that new entrepreneurial reality show on TV?"
Aria raised an eyebrow, clearly annoyed. "You'd never qualify for a show like that. Why ask so many questions?" She tugged at Edward's sleeve with her slender fingers.
I was stunned, my mind racing.
Aria's Legal Advisors had always been Stellar Legal Advisors' biggest rival. If I joined the entrepreneurial reality show with Aria, she wouldn't be able to pull her usual underhanded tricks. This could give us a real shot at winning.
After all, whether it was Lila, me, or any lawyer at Stellar Legal Advisors, our business skills were top-notch. It was only because of Aria's constant scheming that we were at a disadvantage.
After Aria dragged Edward away, I took a deep breath, collected my thoughts, and quickly returned to the private room.
I walked up to Orval, placed the event program plan back in front of him, and said, "Orval, I've decided to join your show."
Orval and Nicholas were both stunned by my quick decision.
Orval, excited, raised his glass and said, "Really? Ms. Cooper, it's great to have you on board. This show is going to be amazing. Cheers."
I looked at Nicholas, who nodded slightly in approval. I raised my glass, clinked it against Orval's, and downed it in one go.
I thought to myself, this was the perfect chance to take down the competition.
After a while, Orval seemed to get more excited. With a smile, he invited me again, "Ms. Cooper, the mood is perfect. How about a dance?"
I couldn't refuse any longer and let Orval lead me to the dance floor. But soon I regretted it because I saw the two people I least wanted to see—Edward and Aria.
After one dance, I quickly found an excuse to leave the dance floor.
Since I had been drinking and couldn't drive, I called Lila to pick me up and told her about joining the reality show.
As I waited for Lila at the entrance, Edward and Aria walked out of the banquet hall, hand in hand.
Seeing me, Aria started to speak sarcastically, "Isn't this Diana? Why didn't you drive? For the sake of us once being family, I'll have our driver take you home."
I ignored Aria and turned to look at Edward, who was holding her hand. Edward frowned but didn't say anything.
I coldly said, "My friend is coming to pick me up. No need to trouble you two."
With that, I tried to walk past them.
Unexpectedly, Aria suddenly blocked my way.
"Since they're not here yet, why don't we catch up?" Aria said, holding Edward's arm even tighter.
I asked irritably, "What do you want to talk about?"
Although I was asking Aria, my eyes never left Edward, just as his eyes never left my face.
For a moment, the surroundings fell into sudden silence.
