Chapter 352 Must Find Lanny
After a bunch of check-ups and treatments, Lila's health finally started to level out, though her emotions were still all over the place.
Lucas shifted his focus back to his career, not sticking by Lila's side every second anymore. Lachlan and Jessa, moved by Lucas's change, began spending their days with Lila.
I figured out that all this mess started with the shipment from the Cooper Group that went overseas. The internal issues in our company were ours to fix.
I called a special meeting with the core team. The vibe in the conference room was tense, and everyone looked worried.
Once everyone settled in, I laid out the whole situation. As I talked, their faces went from shocked to angry, and the room filled with heated discussions.
Theo frowned and said seriously, "This is a wake-up call. We need to tighten up our internal processes and management to prevent this from happening again."
Seeing everyone fired up, I nodded. "Exactly. We can't just sit around and wait for things to go wrong. We need a solid security plan, not just to keep an eye on our shipments but also to enforce stricter management in contract reviews and other processes."
After a heated discussion, we gradually hammered out the security plan.
Once the company stuff was sorted, I remembered something crucial—where could Lanny be? He'd been gunning for my goods, even hurting innocent people. The Jackson family and the Griffin family were both hunting for Lanny, but Wind City wasn't that big, and there weren't many places to hide. Since the incident, none of us had found any trace of Lanny.
I thought, if none of us had found him, there must be something we missed. Could the Wilson family be hiding Lanny, including David?
But I quickly dismissed that idea. Lanny was Daniel's illegitimate son and had no close ties with David or the Wilson family. In fact, they were rivals in the fight for the Wilson Group's assets. David wouldn't protect him.
I decided to dig deeper.
To do this, I secretly met with Fiona without David knowing.
I got to the agreed spot, and Fiona was already there. She turned her head slowly when she heard my footsteps.
Before I could say anything, Fiona spoke first, "What do you want?"
Her voice was cold, like I was her worst enemy.
I put my handbag on the chair behind me and said sincerely, "Fiona, I know you're going through a tough time. I'm here to find Lanny with you and get justice for you."
At the mention of Lanny, Fiona's eyes widened. She exclaimed, "That bastard! I want to kill him myself!"
She gritted her teeth in anger.
I said, "What he's done is unforgivable. I hate him just as much. That's why I wanted to ask if the Griffin family has had any news about Lanny recently."
Fiona glared at me and snorted, "If I had any news, I would have torn him apart by now. Do you think I'd be wasting time here with you?"
Suddenly, a mocking smile appeared on her lips. She said, "Diana, stop pretending. I used to consider you a friend, but now I see clearly."She paused, her voice getting even colder. "After my miscarriage, David's been all over your company's business. Are you two rekindling your old flame?"
Hearing this, I felt a pang of unease and quickly explained, "Fiona, you've got it all wrong. David and I ended things a long time ago. I'm here just to deal with Lanny."
Fiona's face twisted with sarcasm. "When I was in the hospital, David was secretly in contact with you. Can you deny that? And now David's moved back to the Wilson Villa. Who knows if he's really looking for Lanny or doing something else."
I frowned, surprised by this turn of events. "David moved out? When did this happen?" I asked.
Fiona replied impatiently, "You didn't know? He said he couldn't stay with me anymore and moved back to the Wilson Villa to focus on finding Lanny."
I shook my head, confused. "I really didn't know about this."
Fiona's eyes filled with even more hatred. "Stop pretending! Maybe you two planned this all along—one pretending to look for Lanny, the other extracting information from me."
Fiona stared at me with distrust and said, "Diana, I won't let this go. No matter what you two are planning, I will make Lanny pay and won't let you have your way."
I tried to reason with her. "Maybe David has his difficulties. After all, he has the entire Wilson family behind him."
"Difficulties?" Fiona's voice rose, nearly breaking. "What about my difficulties? I've lost my child, and my health is shattered—what am I supposed to do?"
I looked at her silently, not knowing what to say.
After a long standoff, I realized I wouldn't get any useful information from Fiona today.
I stood up reluctantly. "Fiona, it's getting late. You should rest. If you hear anything about Lanny, please contact me. We'll make him pay together." I tried to keep my voice steady.
Yet Fiona's eyes were still full of hostility. "See, your true motive is showing. You just want to use me to find Lanny and solve your company's problems."
I quickly explained, "No. I admit the company's issues are important, but I also genuinely want to help you punish Lanny. He's hurt us both."
"I won't let you take the chance to punish Lanny. Instead, you need to compensate for my losses," Fiona said, looking out the window with a fierce expression.
As I stepped outside, the gloomy sky felt suffocating. I walked, replaying my conversation with Fiona in my mind. Her disappointment in David, her hostility towards me, and her deep-seated hatred for Lanny had all weighed heavily on my mind. I knew I had to find Lanny. Only by finding him could I regain control. As I walked, large raindrops suddenly began to fall, soaking my hair and clothes. I didn't use an umbrella, letting the rain wash over my tired body, hoping it would help clear my mind.
Suddenly, at an intersection, I had an unexpected sighting: a man whose silhouette looked strikingly like Lanny's.
I desperately wanted to chase after him, but the red light stopped me.
When the light turned green, I sprinted across the intersection, but unfortunately, the man was gone.
Was it really Lanny?
