Chapter 343 None of Your Concern
I tried calling Lucas again, and this time, he picked up after just a few rings.
A wave of relief washed over me.
Lucas's voice came through, sounding exhausted.
I couldn't worry about that right now, and I quickly said, "Lila's in trouble. We need to save her."
Lucas's voice, initially low, suddenly shot up in volume, his fatigue replaced by panic. "Diana, what happened?"
I tried to stay calm and explain, "Don't freak out. This morning, she got a call from one of my company's overseas clients about negotiating the payment for a shipment, so she went to meet them."
"I know. Lila called me before she left," Lucas interrupted, then asked, "What happened to her?"
I replied, "She hasn't come back since she left this morning. And her phone isn't going through."
My voice choked up a bit. "Later, her parents got a call saying she was kidnapped. So we need to figure out how to save Lila immediately."
Lucas sounded incredulous, "Are you saying my in-laws told you Lila was kidnapped?"
I responded, "Yes. They came to see me this afternoon and told me. But when we tried calling the kidnappers back, the number was already disconnected. They're extremely worried right now."
Sensing Lucas's temper about to explode, I carefully explained, "Alaric tried calling you this afternoon, but you were in a meeting, so..."
"Damn it!" Lucas cursed loudly, not caring about his image. "Did you try looking for her?"
I said, "We tracked her phone's location, but when we got there, they had already moved her."
"Where are my in-laws now?" Lucas asked, suddenly sounding very distressed.
I replied, "They're still at my office. I was planning to send someone to take them to dinner and let them rest at a hotel. With Lila missing, we need to take care of her parents."
"No need!" Lucas shouted, his previous exhaustion completely gone. "I'll take care of my family myself!"
With that, the line went dead as he hung up.
Moments later, I heard heavy, hurried footsteps in the hallway. The receptionist's panicked voice rang out, "Sir, you don't have an appointment. You can't just barge in like this. Please follow the proper procedures!"
"Get out of my way!" Lucas's commanding voice shattered the usual calm of the office area. Clearly, the receptionist's words hadn't stopped him.
Within minutes, my office door was forcefully pushed open, and Lucas stormed in, panting heavily. His eyes were red, and he demanded fiercely, "Diana, where are my in-laws?"
Since Lucas started dating Lila, I had never seen him like this. I shivered and quickly stood up, moving around my desk.I tried to stay calm and explained, "I had Amy take them to a restaurant for dinner. After that, I planned to send them to a hotel to rest. With Lila missing, we need to take care of her parents."
"Save your fake concern!" Lucas cut me off harshly. "I'll take them myself. My family doesn't need your help!" With that, he turned and stormed out of the office.
I hurried after him. Theo followed, trying to calm Lucas down, "Mr. Jackson, please calm down. We're all trying to help here!"
Lucas retorted, "Calm down? My wife has been kidnapped, and you want me to calm down?"
He stopped abruptly, turned around, and roared at Theo, "You're all just talking without doing anything useful. I'm taking my family with me, and none of you can stop me!"
With that, Lucas headed towards the restaurant.
I followed Lucas, running to catch up. Finally, at the restaurant's entrance, I caught up with Amy, Lachlan, and Jessa, who were waiting with Nathaniel.
Lucas stormed up to them, his tone leaving no room for argument, "Come with me."
Hearing this, Lachlan looked confused and asked, "Lucas, what's going on? Weren't we supposed to wait here for news?"
"The situation has changed. I'm taking you somewhere else," Lucas said, his brows furrowed with worry, reaching out to help Lachlan and Jessa.
Nathaniel, the bodyguard, stepped forward, blocking Lucas and looking at him warily.
Nathaniel was imposing, standing in front of Lucas with a commanding presence. Amy tried to mediate, her voice shaky, "Mr. Jackson, Ms. Cooper has everything arranged."
Lucas glared at Nathaniel, shouting, "Move! This is my family business. My wife has been kidnapped, and I need to protect my in-laws. None of you can stop me!"
Nathaniel stood firm, his duty clear, not moving without explicit orders.
He said, "Mr. Jackson, I understand you're worried, but my job is to ensure Mr. and Mrs. Green's safety. Without Ms. Cooper's approval, I can't let you take them."
Lachlan turned to me and asked, "Diana, what's going on?"
I stepped forward, out of breath, and explained, "Lucas is very worried about Lila and wants to take care of you personally."
Lucas impatiently urged, "Let's go!"
He reached out to pull them again. Lachlan frowned, shaking off Lucas's hand, and said sternly, "Explain to us clearly, what's happening with Lila?"
Lucas took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "There's no news on Lila yet. I've sent people to find her. I need to keep you close to protect you from the kidnappers."
Hearing this, Lachlan and Jessa went pale. They exchanged a worried, fearful glance.
