Chapter 351 Lucas's Plan
I tried to keep my cool and said, "Godfather, we found Lila, but..."
I hesitated, my voice breaking a little. "She was kidnapped by Lanny's guys and tortured. By the time we got to her, she was barely hanging on. She's still getting treated."
Nicholas's face went white. He took a deep drag on his cigar, the tip glowing fiercely, mirroring the rage inside him. His fists clenched as he spat out, "That Lanny is completely out of control!"
He then crushed his cigar in the ashtray, sparks flying, the sound sharp and grating. "Where's Lucas? Why didn't he come back with you?" Nicholas asked, looking past me and Alaric.
I quickly replied, "Lucas rushed in to save Lila without thinking twice. He fought the kidnappers and got hurt, especially his shoulder. The wounds were bad, but the doctors treated him. He's not in immediate danger, but he'll need a long time to recover."
"Lucas was so reckless! Doesn't he get how important his safety is?" Nicholas muttered as he paced, his voice filled with an unusual tenderness. He grabbed his phone, dialing with a deep, commanding tone. "Get me the best surgeon at Serene Medical Center right now. Prepare them to treat Lucas, no matter the cost!"
After hanging up, Nicholas fell silent again. "You said Lanny kidnapped Lila? The Wilson family's illegitimate son they brought back a few years ago?" Nicholas suddenly asked, turning to me.
I didn't get why Nicholas was asking this but nodded repeatedly. "Lanny has done countless evil things. Not only did he kidnap Lila, but he also caused a car accident that led to Fiona's miscarriage. The Griffin family is already aware and is hunting him down."
"That Lanny, how dare he be so brazen!" Nicholas's voice was low and icy, each word carrying a chilling anger. "I don't care about the Griffin family's affairs, but he hurt someone from the Jackson family. I'll find him and make him pay for what he's done!"
Nicholas's eyes were filled with fierce determination, and I had no doubt he would make Lanny suffer dearly. He continued, "Go back and tell Lucas to focus on recovering and taking care of his wife. I'll handle this."
Nicholas leaned back on the sofa, his hands crossed over his chest, giving cold orders. After saying goodbye to Nicholas, I left the villa, glancing back at the closed door, taking a deep breath before heading back to the hospital.
Even though Lila was out of immediate danger when I left, I still felt uneasy. Returning to the hospital, I went straight to the ward. The door was slightly ajar, and I gently pushed it open to see Lucas by Lila's bedside.
Lila was asleep, but her body occasionally twitched, showing she wasn't resting peacefully. I walked over and patted Lucas's shoulder, softly reassuring him, "Your father knows. He'll take care of everything. Just focus on taking care of Lila."Lucas slowly lifted his head, a glimmer of hope in his eyes, as he gently kissed Lila's hand over and over. Lila stirred, her brows furrowing slightly. Lucas immediately leaned in, calling softly, "Lila, are you awake?"
After a moment, Lila slowly opened her eyes, still a bit dazed. Her gaze fell on Lucas, and she murmured, "Lucas, my love."
Lucas quickly responded, "I'm here, I'm right here. How do you feel?"
"I'm fine." Lila's eyes met mine, a slight smile on her lips. "Diana, it's great to see you."
My heart ached, and I held her other hand, saying, "Lila, I'm so sorry for dragging you into this and causing you so much pain."
Lila gently shook her head, her voice weak but firm. "Don't say that. We're friends."
She paused, then looked at Lucas with a loving gaze. "Lucas, I'm sorry for worrying you."
Lucas's eyes reddened, holding back tears. "Just focus on getting better. Everything will be alright."
As I listened to their conversation, my throat felt dry, the bitterness overwhelming. My vision blurred, the image of the couple caring for each other becoming unclear.
If it weren't for me, Lila should be living a peaceful and happy life with Lucas, not lying in this cold hospital bed, enduring both physical and emotional trauma.
After a while, Lila's eyes grew distant. Her breathing became steady and gentle, still touched by pain but also relaxed in the moment. Her hand, tightly grasped by Lucas, gradually loosened as she drifted into a deep sleep.
The room fell into a brief silence, only Lila's faint breathing audible. Once I was sure Lila was sleeping soundly, I looked at Lucas, who was still staring at her, and softly asked, "Lucas, your dad is taking this very seriously. He'll handle it well. What are your plans?"
Lucas's gaze never left Lila's face. "I'll take good care of Lila."
I sighed and continued, "Lucas, we can't stay stuck in guilt. You need to become strong enough to protect Lila and your family in the future."
Lucas finally looked at me, seemingly not understanding what I meant.
I tried to persuade him. "I just received an email from Micah, the programmer we contacted earlier. He's willing to provide us with his patent. You should seize this opportunity and get the research project going."
Lucas remarked, "My mind is full of thoughts about Lila. I can't focus on work. I'm afraid..."
I interrupted him, "This is also a chance to mend your relationship with your dad! Think about it, he's so invested in handling this because he cares about you both."
I added, "You need to work hard not just for yourself but to give Lila a solid foundation, so she won't have to live in fear anymore. When things calm down with your father, try to find a good moment to have a conversation. After everything that has happened, you may end up understanding each other better."
Lucas was silent for a moment, then a spark of determination lit up in his eyes. He said, "Diana, you're right. I need to make a change and ensure she never suffers again."
Hearing this, I reached out and patted his shoulder, feeling relieved for Lila.
