Chapter 181 Anne Gets Beaten

When it came to apologies, Hayden suddenly spun around and yelled at the door, "Get in here now!"

I didn't expect anyone to be outside. I thought it might be Edward, but to my surprise, Anne and Clara walked in slowly.

Anne's outfit today was a shocker. She ditched her usual glamorous dress for a plain T-shirt and jeans, totally unlike her usual over-the-top style.

I didn't have time to dwell on her fashion choices. My brain was racing. As soon as Anne and Clara stepped into the room, I launched into an over-the-top performance. "Anne, how's your injury? Did it leave a scar? A scar wouldn't look good on a girl."

Anne quickly hid her hand behind her back. Hayden couldn't help but mock, "With such a minor injury, she could've healed on her own even if she'd gone to the hospital later. How does she have the nerve to complain?"

Suddenly, Hayden seemed to remember something important. He leaned forward and rummaged through the file bag next to his wheelchair. He pulled out a piece of paper and said, "This is my latest will."

He stretched his arm as far as he could, trying to place the will on my hospital bed. I just glanced at it but had no intention of taking it.

Seeing this, Hayden explained, "Diana, take a good look. I've decided to completely kick Anne and Clara out of the Howard Group's capital team. They've always had ulterior motives for the Howard family's assets, trying to take them for themselves. Well, I've put an end to their hopes. I've arranged everything, and in the future, all my assets will go to you and my grandson. I came to you today with complete sincerity. I even consulted the doctor beforehand, and he said your physical injury isn't serious and won't affect future childbirth."

Hearing this, I instantly remembered the doctor telling me a few days ago that this miscarriage wouldn't affect my fertility. I had my suspicions then, and now it seemed the Howard family was behind it. Sure enough, Hayden continued, "For the sake of this inheritance, can you have another child with Edward as soon as possible?"

I was shocked. I thought to myself, this cunning Hayden planned everything well, clearly setting a trap for me to fall into. I had just gone through the physical and emotional trauma of a miscarriage. Although my body was slowly recovering, it hadn't fully healed yet.

But he was already impatiently planning for me to conceive again. I sighed inwardly. In a businessman's mind, profit was always the top priority, and any emotions seemed insignificant in the face of profit. Originally, Hayden was the only person in the Howard family I had a slight liking for, but his actions today completely wiped out that remaining bit of goodwill.

I expressionlessly picked up the will Hayden had placed on my bed and put it back on his lap, responding coldly, "I won't consider or agree to what you said."

Hayden clearly didn't expect me to shut him down so bluntly. His face turned beet red, and his eyes bulged with fury. "Diana, I've given you everything I can. What more do you need to agree?" he shouted, then started coughing violently.

Clara quickly stepped forward, gently patting his back to help him breathe. I just sat there, watching them quietly.

When Hayden announced he'd leave everything to me and the baby, Anne lost it. She burst into tears, dropped to her knees in front of Hayden's wheelchair, and clutched his clothes, her face a mess of tears. "Dad, please don't do this to me. I can't leave the Howard family! How will I live without it?"

"Now you regret it? Too late!" Hayden was trembling with anger, his eyes wide as he shouted, "You two can fend for yourselves and starve!"

Anne stayed on the ground, tears streaming down her face. She kept apologizing, "Dad, I was wrong. Please, give me another chance. Forgive me this time." Her high-pitched, sob-filled voice echoed through the room, making my ears buzz.

Hayden was so angry his chest heaved, and he was gasping for breath. Clara's eyes were wide open, her nostrils flaring with each heavy breath. Her face looked monstrous, like a demon emerging from the depths of hell, with pure rage and resentment etched in every feature.

Clara, like an enraged lioness, charged forward, causing the ground to seem to tremble slightly.  Anne didn't have time to react. Her eyes widened in fear as Clara's arm swiftly swung up and landed a resounding slap on her cheek.

Anne's head was knocked to one side, a few strands of hair scattering. A clear handprint instantly appeared on her face, and she sat there as if her soul had been sucked out, her eyes filled with confusion and fear. She seemed still in shock from the sudden pain and was trembling slightly. I was also stunned by the sudden scene.

"You damn bastard! You vicious bitch!" Clara, her face twisted with rage, panted heavily and cursed viciously. "I've warned you that the Howard family descendants are off-limits. You can't lay a hand on them. But you just ignored my words and insisted on causing trouble. Now, the Howard family assets are out of reach, and even I have to suffer with you. You're pushing me to a dead end!" As she spoke, she reached out and viciously grabbed Anne's hair, her fingers tightly entwined in the strands, pulling back forcefully.

In pain, Anne was forced to lean back, clutching her swollen cheek with one hand while desperately protecting her head with the other. She curled up, trying to avoid Clara's blows. Painful whimpers and weak pleas for mercy escaped her lips as tears streamed down her face, mixing with the blood, making her look pitiable and miserable.
