Chapter 330 Bail

Anne scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "A normal way? Been there, done that. Doesn't work. Those guys either want my cash or my body."

I thought about the kid I met in the slums and what he said about Anne. Looking at her now, my anger started to fade, replaced by a deep sadness.

I slowly sat back down and said, "Anne, this path is only gonna drag you down more. It's not too late to turn things around. Go to the cops, come clean, and ask for leniency. I'll tell them you took Skylar because you were worried about her, not to hurt her."

Anne looked at me, surprised. "Really? You don't blame me?"

I tried to sound as gentle as possible. "Skylar likes you a lot. For her sake, I'm willing to give you another shot."

Anne tried to stand, but the chair designed for prisoners restricted her movement.

"Of course, you can refuse. But if you do, I can press charges for kidnapping. You might spend the rest of your life in prison," I reminded her.

Tears welled up in Anne's eyes. "Thank you, Diana."

I smiled faintly, stood up, and left the visiting room to start the bail process for Anne.

When Joshua heard I was bailing Anne out, he rushed over, his face full of concern. "Diana, think this through. Anne's got a long rap sheet. Bailing her out is a huge risk!"

I replied firmly, "Skylar asked me to bail Anne out. I've thought it through."

Joshua was taken aback by my reason and anxiously tried to persuade me. "Skylar's just a kid. You can't just follow her wishes. What if Anne hurts Skylar again or causes more trouble? What then?"

Joshua, always cautious, looked at me with worry, searching for any sign of hesitation.

I smiled at him, trying to keep my tone gentle. "Joshua, I get your concerns. Thanks for the reminder."

Joshua shook his head, looking troubled. "I don't need your thanks. I just want you to be safe and not get hurt by people who aren't worth it."

I sighed. "After all this, I can see that Skylar really likes Anne and wants to be with her. If I don't get Anne out, I can't imagine how heartbroken Skylar will be."

Joshua shook his head, raising his voice almost to the point of arguing. "But she kidnapped Skylar! Who's to say she won't do it again? If something happens, it'll be too late for regrets!"

I glanced at Anne being led out of the visiting room by the police and said softly, "I talked to her for a long time. I can tell she genuinely wants to change this time. I don't want Skylar's childhood to be filled with regret. This is also a chance for Anne to start over."

Sensing my determination, Joshua sighed heavily and stopped arguing. He turned to help with the paperwork. Once everything was done, Anne could be released tomorrow.

In the midst of the busy process, Lila called.Hearing Lila's cheerful voice instantly lifted my spirits.

"Diana, it's been ages! I brought you a gift from my trip abroad. Let's meet up today." Lila's straightforward personality always made her conversations lively.

I glanced at Anne, who was eagerly anticipating her release and imagining a fresh start.

I suddenly felt the need to hear Lila's thoughts, so I turned to Joshua and said, "Joshua, something urgent has come up. I need to put a hold on bailing Anne out. I'm really sorry. I'll be back in a few days."

Joshua's face lit up with relief when he heard I was postponing the bail.

He had always been against bailing Anne out. He quickly said, "Alright, Diana. Take care of your urgent matters first. We can deal with the bail later."

With that, Joshua hurriedly escorted me out of the police station, seemingly worried I might change my mind and continue with the bail process.

I met Lila at a small café near Stellar Legal Advisors. As soon as we met, Lila handed me a giant teddy bear. "I brought this back from my honeymoon abroad for Skylar."

I took the teddy bear, smiling and thanking her.

Seeing Lila's happy face, I hesitated but decided to share my thoughts. "Lila, I was planning to bail Anne out. Since you're here, I'd love to hear your opinion."

Lila's smile vanished instantly, and she looked at me in disbelief, raising her voice. "Diana, are you serious? Bail out Anne? She's the one who kidnapped Skylar! How can you think of bailing out your enemy?"

I took a deep breath and patiently explained, "Lila, I know you're angry, but Skylar really likes Anne. I want to give Anne another chance for Skylar's sake."

"Another chance?" Lila slammed the table, causing the coffee cups to shake. People around us turned to look.

Lila's eyes widened with anger. "You're too naive! Have you forgotten how Anne ruined your company and hurt you time and again?"

I looked out the window at the passing cars. "I haven't forgotten, but I can't ignore Skylar's feelings. Anne promised me she wants to change," I said.

Lila exclaimed, "You're putting Skylar in danger again. How can you gamble with her safety on Anne's so-called change?"

I frowned, my emotions rising. "I'm not gambling. I've thought it through. Skylar has been so down because of Anne. I don't want her childhood to be filled with regret. I believe people can change."

Lila trembled with anger, pointing at me and shouting, "This is foolish kindness! You haven't thought about the consequences. If she repeats her actions, how will you account for it to Skylar? How will you explain it to everyone? I don't agree, absolutely not!"

With that, Lila stood up and stormed out.

Watching her leave, I felt a mix of frustration and sadness. Why couldn't anyone understand my desire to give Anne a chance?
