Chapter 150 Diana, Are You Still Getting a Divorce?

After Melissa took off, Lila sauntered over with a curious glint in her eye and asked, "What's the deal between you and Melissa that the Howard family can't know about?"

I glanced at the caregiver tidying up nearby and didn't want to spill my private stuff in front of strangers, so I just shook my head and whispered, "Nothing."

Lila, being the sharp friend she was, caught on right away. She walked over to the caregiver with a smile and said, "Could you grab some fruit for me?"

She pulled out a bill from her wallet and handed it over. Once the caregiver left, Lila plopped down beside me and asked again, "So, what's really going on?"

A whirlwind of emotions hit me. I spilled everything to Lila about Clara inviting me to the Howard Mansion and Edward and Aria's IVF pregnancy. Before I could finish, she was already fuming, her teeth clenched in anger.

"They're so outrageous, completely ignoring your feelings," she snapped.

I sighed, feeling helpless. "I think they did it on purpose. First, they tricked me into going back to the Howard Mansion, then they dropped the bomb about Aria's pregnancy, just to humiliate me and force me to accept this harsh reality."

Lila's eyes blazed with indignation. "Are you just going to take this? Edward is your husband, and he's having a kid with Aria!"

I gave her a bitter smile. "What else can I do? Aria's already pregnant. But at least, since it was through IVF, there's no real emotional connection between them." I paused, then added, "Honestly, even if there was something going on between them, it doesn't matter to me now. I've already decided to divorce him. I was planning to go back to the Howard Villa to pack my things, but last night, while driving, I suddenly felt dizzy and crashed into the greenbelt."

"What? You had a car accident? Are you hurt?" Lila asked, her voice full of concern as she reached out to lift the blanket covering me.

I quickly stopped her. "No, I'm fine. The bushes in the greenbelt cushioned the impact, so I wasn't hurt. It was really lucky. Melissa was with me at the time; otherwise, I might have been stuck in the greenbelt all night." I sighed, still a bit shaken from the memory of last night.

Seeing I was okay, Lila finally relaxed. "Do you want to eat something? We can ask the caregiver to get it."

I shook my head, feeling drained. "Melissa made me some pasta this morning, but I had no appetite. Not only did I not want to eat, but I also felt nauseous and kept wanting to throw up."

As soon as I finished speaking, I leaned over the bed and dry heaved. After a while, the discomfort passed, and I said, "See, it's like this."

Lila stared at me, deep in thought. Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "Diana, could you be pregnant?" she asked.

Her words hit me like a ton of bricks, leaving me stunned.

"What nonsense are you talking about? How is that possible? Besides, you're single; what do you know about this?" I said, a bit reproachfully.

Lila covered her mouth, laughing. "Just because I'm single doesn't mean I haven't had boyfriends. And we learned this stuff in school. If you really are pregnant, I want to be the godmother."

"Don't be ridiculous; it's impossible," I shot back, but a sliver of doubt crept in. Both Melissa and Lila had their suspicions—could I really be pregnant?

"Since you're already here, why not have the doctor check? It'll put your mind at ease," Lila said seriously, her smile fading.

I nodded mechanically, feeling like my soul had been drained. I had already decided to divorce Edward, but if I was suddenly pregnant at this critical moment, what should I do? Should I let the child grow up without a father? Mason passed away early, and Mia struggled to raise me on her own. I knew all too well the hardships faced by children from single-parent families.

But could I really continue living with Edward for the sake of the child? Especially when Aria was also carrying Edward's child. Love was selfish; I couldn't bear the thought of my child sharing Edward's love with someone else. The thought felt like a sharp blade piercing my heart.

Checking for pregnancy at the hospital was straightforward; it only required a small blood sample. The results came back quickly, confirming my worst fear—I was indeed pregnant.

Based on the levels of human chorionic gonadotropin, it was likely that the baby was conceived during our honeymoon on the island. At that moment, my thoughts were instantly transported back to that dreamy island, and the sweet, intimate memories with Edward played through my mind like a slideshow.

However, the face of the Astoria's lawyer suddenly appeared in my mind without warning. A sense of foreboding loomed over me. Edward and I had been married for over four years without children, and I had even considered IVF. How could I suddenly conceive during our honeymoon?

A troubling thought crossed my mind: Could this child not be Edward's?

"Diana, you're really pregnant! I'm going to be a godmother!" Lila exclaimed, excitedly waving my test report, her eyes sparkling with joy. "I have to tell Daisy this good news." She eagerly pulled out her phone, ready to call.

"No. Lila, it's still the middle of the night over there!" I quickly came up with an excuse to stop her, my mind racing.

Lila tilted her head, realizing I was right, and put down her phone.

It wasn't that I didn't want to share the news with Daisy; it was just that, having just confirmed the pregnancy, I felt that my mind was a tangled mess of concerns that I needed to sort out on my own. This unexpected pregnancy turned my life upside down, and I needed time to figure out the best path forward.

"Diana, are you still going to get a divorce?" Lila suddenly remembered this important matter, and a complex expression crossed her face as she stared at me.

"Of course." I nodded without hesitation, firmly saying, "Rather than letting the child grow up in a loveless environment, I'd rather raise her on my own. I don't want her to spend her childhood in a cold and complicated family atmosphere."

For some reason, I had a strong feeling that the baby inside me was a girl, as if she was already communicating with me, strengthening my resolve. This feeling was strange, like a special bond between us.

"Okay, I believe you. Besides, we're with you all the way," Lila said firmly, "But how are you going to keep this a secret?"

Indeed, this was a problem I would have to face next.
