Chapter 422 Partners

Listening to his words, I couldn't hold back my tears any longer. This time, the scales in my heart, which had been teetering between reason and emotion, seemed to tip ever so slightly.

Every word Edward spoke carried a warmth that slowly melted the thick ice wall around my heart.

Edward noticed my emotional breakdown, his eyes filled with pain. He pulled me into his arms, gently patting my back, murmuring, "It's okay, I'm here."

With his support, we slowly made our way into the room. I collapsed onto the couch, tears still streaming down my face.

Edward grabbed a few tissues from the coffee table and gently wiped my tears away, showing a tenderness I had never seen from him before.

"Diana, please don't cry. It hurts me to see you like this."

His voice was filled with concern, making my heart ache even more.

Edward held my hand tightly, giving it a firm squeeze. "Pictures don't mean anything. I just need you to tell me, in your own words, that there's nothing more than friendship between you and Jeffrey, and I'll believe you."

His gaze was intense, filled with both hope and anxiety.

He pulled me into his arms again, resting his chin gently on the top of my head. "From now on, no matter what happens, we'll face it together, okay? Let's not give up so easily anymore."

Just then, Skylar came bouncing out of her room, clutching her favorite teddy bear.

She looked at Edward with curiosity, tilting her little head. Then she looked up at me, her eyes sparkling. "Mommy, is this Daddy?"

Hearing Skylar's question, I froze.

In my panic, I glanced at Edward, who looked just as surprised. I saw his Adam's apple bob as he tried to process the sudden situation.

Skylar continued to blink her innocent eyes, eagerly waiting for my response.

I gently stroked Skylar's head and gave her a reassuring answer. "Yes, sweetheart, he is your daddy."

Looking at Edward, I silently added in my heart, 'He is Skylar's father, and that will never change. But there is so much between us that we still need to work through.'

Edward's eyes instantly reddened. He slowly crouched down, opening his arms, his voice trembling slightly as he spoke softly to Skylar. "Sweetheart, your daddy is back."

Skylar hesitated for a moment before slowly walking towards Edward, who scooped her up into his arms.

Edward held Skylar tightly, whispering, "I've missed you so much, my sweet girl."

He let go of Skylar, holding her little hand and gently pinching her chubby cheek, his eyes full of affection. "Let me see, has our Skylar grown taller? Has she become even more beautiful?"

Skylar giggled, her face glowing with happiness.

I couldn't help but smile, relieved that Skylar could finally experience this long-lost fatherly love.

But thinking about the complicated past between Edward and me, my heart was filled with turmoil.

Edward noticed Skylar's teddy bear and took it, mimicking the bear's voice. "Skylar, I haven't seen you in so long. I've missed you!"

Skylar clapped her hands happily, grabbing the bear from Edward. "Teddy is bad, it didn't miss me. I have Daddy to miss me, and that's enough!"

Watching this heartwarming scene, I felt a mix of warmth and worry.

Edward had been absent for so much of Skylar's life. Although his efforts to make up for it now moved me, I couldn't immediately decide to start over with him.

Reconciliation wasn't a simple decision; it was a significant choice that would affect our future lives. I had to think carefully and not make a hasty decision based on a moment of emotion. There were still many issues to resolve.

Skylar looked at Edward and then at me with her big, watery eyes, asking softly, "Mommy, Daddy, what were you talking about with Ms. Griffin?"

Hearing Skylar call him "Daddy" made my heart ache.

Edward crouched down, gently stroking Skylar's head with a tender smile on his face, but he didn't directly answer her question.

He simply said, "Sweetheart, from now on, I'll always be with you and your mommy. I won't let anything hurt you again."

Watching this scene, I knew Edward's words were meant for me as well.

I realized that I had to make a decision.

Fiona and Jeffrey's threats loomed over us like a sword, ready to fall and destroy us at any moment.

Edward's company was also in trouble due to Fiona pulling her investment. If we couldn't resolve this quickly, all of Edward's hard work could go to waste.

"Edward, but Fiona won't give up easily. She's relentless and will definitely come up with more ruthless ways to deal with us. And your company's current situation..."

I voiced the deepest worry that had been buried in my heart.

Edward put down Skylar's teddy bear, stood up, and after a moment of contemplation, looked at me seriously. "Diana, I know the situation is critical. The company's troubles and Fiona's threats are challenges we must face."

"What do you plan to do?"

I knew Edward must have a plan.

"I think it's too soon to talk about getting back together before we resolve these issues. But to give Skylar a stable future, let's join forces and tackle the current crisis together, okay?"

His voice was low but firm, as if he was trying to reassure both himself and me.

I looked into his determined eyes, my emotions swirling. The past wounds were still fresh, and reconciliation wasn't something that could be decided hastily.

But to protect Skylar and overcome the immediate challenges, working together might be the best choice.

I took a deep breath and slowly nodded. "Okay, let's solve the company's problems and deal with Fiona together."

Edward's eyes showed gratitude. He reached out his hand, and I extended mine. Our hands clasped tightly together.

At this moment, we weren't lovers; we were partners.

I knew the road ahead would likely be filled with difficulties, but for Skylar, and for the chance to reevaluate our relationship, I had to stand by him.

Together, we would push through the fog ahead, no matter how tough it got.

Looking at our joined hands, I silently vowed that no matter what we faced next, I would give it my all for Skylar and for the future we might still have.
