Chapter 336 Fiona's Knot

After finishing up everything, Melissa was already in the kitchen, whipping up breakfast. When she saw me suddenly appear at the door, she nearly flung the spatula she was holding. "Diana, what are you doing up so early?"

I yawned and replied, "I'm just about to hit the sack."

Once I hit the bed, I was out like a light. When I woke up, it was almost noon. I quickly freshened up and headed out.

I was on my way to see Fiona, who had just lost her baby. I made sure to pick out a more somber outfit for the visit.

The maternity ward was far from quiet. As soon as I stepped into the hallway, I could hear babies crying from different rooms.

I couldn't help but think how much worse Fiona must feel hearing those cries. If Fiona had given birth successfully, would she be dealing with a crying baby right now?

Fiona's room was at the quieter end of the hallway.

Just as I was about to knock, I heard Harper's voice from inside. "Fiona, once you're better, you should divorce him. You deserve someone way better. It's not worth hurting yourself over someone so ungrateful."

"Mom, please don't talk about David like that." Fiona's voice had a hint of reproach.

Harper shot back, clearly annoyed. "Your husband is no good. While you were still in surgery, he was outside laughing and chatting with that woman, Diana. Clearly, he doesn't care about you."

"I trust Diana. She wouldn't be with David while I was pregnant," Fiona said softly.

"Why wouldn't she?" Harper's voice rose.

She continued, "You were living happily in Ignis, but as soon as you got pregnant, he urged you to move back here. Wasn't it just to see his old flame more conveniently? Fiona, you can't let this go easily. Think about the ten months of hardship you went through and the child you lost. We can't let him off the hook."

"Enough, stop talking." A deep voice cut in.

"Why can't I talk? Didn't you say you wanted to punish the Wilson family and that wretched Diana severely?" Harper sounded very displeased.

"Foolish! Do you think I can treat Diana and the Wilson family like some street thugs? The Wilson family has some influence, and as for Diana, even though her family isn't wealthy, she's been doing quite well in Wind City these past few years. But with the Griffin family's power, do we have to watch them be happy?" Harper was unwilling to let it go.

"Treating them like street thugs would be too low. They dared to mess with the Griffin family and caused Fiona so much pain. I'll make them pay back double for every bit of suffering Fiona endured," Ronnie said viciously.

The room fell silent, except for Fiona's soft sobs.

"Fiona, don't worry. Her company and your dad's company are fierce competitors, and she does despicable things to ruin others' relationships! Your dad will handle everything. You just need to take care of yourself and be happy again. As for children, there will be more in the future." Harper's voice was cold, full of disdain for me."No, this is my own matter. I want to find out the truth and take revenge myself." Fiona gripped the bedsheet tightly, her face twisted with determination. "That's the spirit. That's what a Griffin should be like."

Hearing the intense conversation from inside, I froze with my hand poised to knock, unsure if I should go through with it.

Fiona had indeed gotten into trouble because of me, but my relationship with David had ended ages ago. Besides, David, as my friend, was only helping me negotiate with Lanny to minimize my company's losses. How could they twist it like this? After hesitating for a moment, I reluctantly knocked on the door.

Harper opened the door.

As soon as Fiona saw me, her eyes flared with anger.

She said, "What are you doing here? To gloat? Now that my child is gone, are you satisfied? This is all your fault."

Before I could say anything, Fiona had already unleashed a torrent of accusations.

My eyes welled up with tears. I walked to Fiona's bedside, trying to take her hand. "Fiona, I know you got into this mess because of me, but I never expected it to turn out this way. We're friends. How could I harm you?"

"Stop pretending. Your company and my dad's company are at each other's throats, and you're still tangled up with David. What are you up to? Now that I'm like this, you must be thrilled." Fiona was agitated, struggling to sit up from the bed.

Harper quickly stepped forward to support Fiona.

Whether intentionally or not, Harper pushed me aside, causing me to stumble and almost fall. Harper's eyes were full of disgust as she looked at me.

I couldn't understand why Fiona, who had just been comforting me, suddenly had such a drastic change in attitude.

Harper spoke coldly, "Diana, I used to think you were a sensible girl. I didn't expect you to disregard basic morals for your own benefit, having an affair with David and causing Fiona's miscarriage."

Upon hearing Harper's judgment, I found tears of grievance filling my eyes. I said, "Mrs. Griffin, you really misunderstood me. Fiona suffered so much because of me, and I feel worse than anyone. But David and I ended things long before he married Fiona. He's your son-in-law now, and I have no entanglements with him. He was only helping me negotiate with Lanny to reduce my company's losses. There's nothing more to it, and there never will be."

"Nice try. You people will do anything for your own benefit. Don't think this excuse will fool us." Harper turned her head away, refusing to listen to my explanation.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down, and said, "Fiona, believe it or not, I came to see you today because I was worried about you. If my presence makes you unhappy, I'm sorry. I can leave and come back when you're calmer. We can talk then, and I'll prove to you through my actions that there's nothing between David and me."

With that, I turned and left the room without waiting for Fiona's response.

I never imagined that a once close friend would now stand on the opposite side due to misunderstandings, interests, and suspicions. I knew that Fiona had a knot in her heart, and it would take a lot of effort to untangle it.
