Chapter 344 Seeking Help from David

"Alright, Lucas, we're coming with you," Lachlan muttered, sounding defeated. "Just make sure you bring Lila back safe."

Lucas nodded, his eyes red and puffy. "Don't worry. I'll get Lila back, even if it kills me."

I watched as Lucas carefully helped Lachlan and Jessa to the car, trailing behind them quietly.

Seizing the moment, I sidled up to Lucas and whispered, "Lucas, things are pretty dire right now. Do you have a plan to rescue Lila? We should brainstorm together. More heads are better than one."

Lucas turned to me, his eyes icy. "I don't need your help. She's my wife. I'll figure it out."

Not backing down, I pressed on, "Don't be so stubborn. I want to help Lila too. I might have some useful info. If we team up, we stand a better chance."

Lucas just scoffed and turned away. "I said I don't need your help. Stay out of my family's business."

Watching him walk off, I bit my lip, my determination to save Lila only growing stronger. Even if Lucas was being a brick wall, having another person on the rescue mission could make all the difference.

I couldn't let Lucas's stubbornness stop me. Lila was my friend and a part of my team. I had to follow the lead with Lanny. But to get to Lanny, I needed David.

If I could get David to help me meet Lanny, we might just get the breakthrough we needed.

Thinking about how Fiona had suffered because of me made my heart ache. David had seen Fiona's condition and had been humiliated by Ronnie and Harper. How could I expect him to help me easily? Despite the uncertainty, I couldn't let go of this slim chance.

Taking a deep breath, I found David's number in my contacts. My fingers shook a bit as I hit the call button.

The hospital room was so quiet, you could only hear the faint hum of medical equipment. David was sitting by Fiona's bed, taking care of her after her miscarriage surgery.

Suddenly, a slight vibration broke the silence. David jumped and quickly pulled out his phone. Seeing my name on the screen, his relaxed demeanor turned tense.

He glanced at the still-sleeping Fiona, hesitated for a moment, then gently pulled the blanket up over her and stepped into the hallway to take the call.

"Diana, why are you calling?" David's voice was rough.

I took a deep breath, trying to keep my voice steady. "David, Lila's been kidnapped. It's urgent. I think Lanny's involved, so I need to meet with you to figure out how to save her. When can we talk?"There was a long pause on the other end. David's face went pale. After a while, he finally responded, sounding flustered. "Lanny again? How could he do this?"

He instinctively glanced back at the frail Fiona lying in bed, his voice low as if he didn't want her to hear. "I'm at the hospital with Fiona. She's not doing well."

His words were filled with helplessness and conflict. I knew Fiona's condition and understood David's tough spot. But the urgency to save Lila was overwhelming. I couldn't help but say, "David, I know you're in a tough spot, but Lila's life is on the line. Lanny is your brother. Maybe only you can find the key clues to change Lila's dangerous situation. Please, David, help us. We're all friends. We can't just stand by and watch Lila in danger."

David looked back at the hospital room, meeting Fiona's gaze through the glass. He sighed heavily, hesitated for a long time, and finally said, "Alright, let's meet at my office tomorrow morning to discuss it."

As soon as he finished speaking, Fiona's weak voice came from the room. "Who are you talking to?"

David's expression tightened, and he quickly hung up the phone. The dial tone echoed in my ear. I looked at the phone, now showing the call had ended, and sighed, wondering how David would explain the call to Fiona.

The night felt heavy, draping over the city like a thick curtain. I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, my mind filled with thoughts of Lila. Where was she? Was she suffering?

Thinking about Lucas's cold and stubborn attitude, I couldn't help but sigh. Why couldn't Lucas understand? Having more people involved in the rescue would increase our chances. How could he save Lila alone?

I was filled with frustration and worry about Lucas's obstinacy. But I knew this wasn't the time to dwell on it. Saving Lila was the priority. For now, I could only hope for the meeting with David tomorrow.

The long night felt torturous. At last, morning broke. Overwhelmed with anxiety, I headed out early. Glancing at my watch, I noticed that the meeting with David was fast approaching, and my heart began to race.

David should be here soon. I prayed silently, walking into David's company.

The receptionist, with her impeccable makeup and professional smile, politely asked, "Hello, how can I help you?"

"I'm here to see David. We arranged to meet last night," I replied anxiously.

The receptionist glanced towards David's office and smiled. "Mr. Wilson hasn't arrived yet. Please wait a moment. I'll contact him for you. Mr. Wilson has been very busy and looks quite tired lately. Is it something urgent?"

I forced a smile and answered, "Yes, it's very important. It's a matter of life and death for a friend. I hope he can help."
