Chapter 19 Dangerous Driving
The cold night air hit me as Edward practically dragged me out of the bar, and I sucked in a deep breath, grateful for the fresh air after the stuffy confines of the private room.
In my mind, I was still at the table with David sitting next to me.
I waved my limp hand, mumbling, "David, please, hire me. I'll work hard."
The car jerked to a stop, and my forehead smacked the windshield.
"Open your eyes and see who you're talking to," Edward snarled, his voice dangerously low.
"Ouch." I rubbed my head, suddenly wide awake.
Edward's face darkened, and my heart skipped a beat.
Realizing my mistake, I silently cursed myself.
I knew better than to mention David in front of Edward, especially not to beg him for a job.
I tried to explain, but the alcohol made my thoughts sluggish.
"What's the matter? Missing your precious David already?" he asked, his voice laced with sarcasm.
His cold eyes made me feel both scared and wronged. "No!"
Edward looked serious. "Listen, you don't need to work, especially not at David's company. Just stay home and do nothing." His tone was firm, no room for argument.
"But I want to work! I have ambitions, goals..." My voice trembled.
Edward grabbed my chin. "I can support you. You don't need to go running around, embarrassing me with your need to be independent."
"Embarrassing you?" I spat out, trying to wrench myself free. "I'm a lawyer, Edward! I graduated top of my class! I'm not some trophy wife content to sit at home and look pretty."
Edward sneered, "Haven't I given you a title? Mrs. Howard."
His anger showed in his grip, and my chin hurt.
I struggled to break free, shouting, "You can't be so selfish! I have my own life too. I don't want to be controlled by you."
Edward suddenly laughed. "Why so fierce? Don't forget, everything you have now is because of me." He whispered in my ear.
My ears were sensitive, and his breath made me want to give in.
My voice trembled, "Edward, you have to believe me. David means nothing to me. I just want this job."
I locked eyes with him, hoping he'd see my sincerity.
"You don't need to work. The bags, jewelry, the Cooper Group, I'll give you everything. But you are mine." Edward's possessiveness filled the small space, making me feel trapped.
The night was dark, the dim streetlights casting a glow on the street and Edward's handsome face.
No matter what, Edward's looks always drew me in.
Even if I didn't love Edward anymore, I couldn't help but be moved by his appearance.
Suddenly, a thunderclap made me shrink into Edward's arms.
The rain started pouring outside, and inside the car, Edward kissed me suddenly.
"No." I tried to pull away.
"Yes or no?" His voice was muffled, his lips moving fiercely on mine.
His kiss was both calm and passionate, and I couldn't help but respond.
Edward unbuckled his seatbelt, pressing his whole body onto mine.
The sound of fabric rubbing was both intimate and dangerous. Soon, his body heat seeped through, signaling an impending battle without words.
Edward held my waist with one hand, my feet propped on the steering wheel. He moved his hips, entering me.
I couldn't help but moan, "Edward, I feel so uncomfortable."
The alcohol was still messing with me, making everything feel off.
But my pleas seemed to turn Edward on even more, making him go at it harder.
My body shook with his movements, the car rocking with us.
After a brief pause, Edward pulled out. I clung to his neck, looking at him with dazed eyes.
He adjusted the rearview mirror and went at it again, even more fiercely.
"Look at your face. Is it enough for a man to just earn money and support the family?" His breath on my neck was both numbing and ticklish.
I was too overwhelmed to answer. Edward kept thrusting, asking if it was enough.
I felt ashamed and humiliated, but I couldn't escape the pleasure he brought. Forget it, I closed my eyes and just let it happen.
When he finally finished, I crawled back to the passenger seat, hugging my legs. A puddle on the driver's seat reminded me of how intense it had been.
I shyly lowered my head, gently rubbing my sore legs.
"Can't take it anymore?" Edward buttoned up his shirt and then carried me to the back seat.
"If you can't take it, let me help you." His hand roamed between my legs, starting with a proper massage but soon reaching my sensitive spots.
I quickly got wet, unconsciously clamping my legs together.
Thinking of the selfies Anne sent to Edward in similar poses, I felt sad.
Edward must love Anne more!
I wished this was all just a nightmare, that I could wake up and be free again.
The next day, I woke up in the familiar big bed, staring at the crystal chandelier on the ceiling with a splitting headache.
After all the twists and turns, I was back at the Howard Villa.
I struggled to sit up, trying to recall what happened last night.
Melissa saw me awake and immediately brought me some hangover soup.
"Melissa, how did I get back?" I asked as I took the cup.
"You drank too much. Mr. Howard carried you back. It rained heavily last night, and he got soaked. He asked me to make you some hangover soup." I nodded, sipping the soup.
"Edward, come chase me." Hearing the commotion outside, I couldn't help but look out the window.
In the garden, Anne was running around Edward like a rabbit, one laughing, the other playing. It was a very pleasing scene.
Besides a bit of envy, I seemed to have fully accepted that Edward treated Anne better than me.
But this didn't prove that Edward was really cheating.
I would rather Edward hold Anne's hand in front of me and tell me they were together. I would obediently pack my things and leave. But Edward's ambiguous attitude left me guessing.
Anne put her arms around Edward's waist from behind, saying something. I couldn't hear what they were saying, only saw Edward gently tap Anne's nose before walking towards the mansion with her on his back.
My eyes hurriedly looked away. Just one glance, and the lost thoughts from last night gradually returned.
