Chapter 71 Anne Had Another Nightmare!

During my period, I felt super weak, and Edward stayed by my side, taking care of me like a champ.

His warm hand rested on my lower abdomen, gently massaging it. His company and meticulous care eased my pain and filled my heart with warmth and comfort as I lay in bed. That night, Edward didn't go back to the main bedroom. I quietly watched this handsome man lying beside me, my heart racing. He was my husband, but I had to share his love with another woman, and I often had to pull some tricks to get his attention. How could I not feel sad?

Just then, a frantic shout broke the silence. It was Anne, yelling from the main bedroom, "Edward, Edward, help me!" Her voice was full of fear. Edward immediately stood up, his face full of worry. He glanced at me, his eyes showing some hesitation.

"Edward, Edward!" Anne kept calling.

A bad feeling surged in my heart. I knew Anne had always liked Edward, and now her shout seemed to be pulling Edward's soul away. I bit my lip, feeling a bit aggrieved, but still softly said, "Go check on Anne; she seems really scared."

Edward gently patted my hand and said, "Anne might have had a nightmare again. You just rest; I'll be back soon." With that, he quickly walked towards the main bedroom.

I felt a bit discontent and disappointed. At that moment, my physical discomfort seemed to worsen, and I frowned, thinking: 'Aren't you just shouting to attract Edward to your room?' As the crying continued, I felt a bit guilty for my thoughts. After all, Anne might have encountered something really terrifying.

I propped myself up and slowly moved toward the main bedroom. Just as I reached the door, I saw Melissa awakened and standing there. Melissa blocked the slightly ajar door with her body and advised, "Mrs. Howard, Ms. York often has nightmares. Let Mr. Howard stay with her. I think you should go back to your room to have some rest."

I still saw Anne snuggling in Edward's arms, and Edward gently comforted her, "Anne, it's okay. I'm here."

Anne, with a sobbing voice, said, "Edward, I'm so scared. I had a terrible nightmare where many monsters were chasing me with knives, and I couldn't escape." Edward stroked Anne's back, gently comforting her, "Anne, it's okay; it was just a dream. Dreams aren't real."

Anne clung tightly to Edward's arm, her eyes still filled with tears. She saw me at the door, paused, then turned her gaze back to Edward, saying, "Edward, don't leave. I'm still very scared. I feel like the nightmare is still haunting me. I can't sleep without you."

Edward patted her shoulder and said, "Anne, calm down. I'm not leaving." He helped Anne lie down and gently patted her shoulder.

Standing at the door, I felt very uneasy. I knew Anne's feelings for Edward, but seeing it still made me feel disgusted.

With Melissa's help, I returned to the bedroom and lay in bed, unable to sleep for a long time. I thought Edward should come back. But as time passed, Edward still didn't return.

After a long time, I received a message from Edward: [Anne is scared to sleep alone. I have to stay with her. Don't wait for me.]

Looking at the cold text, I felt even more upset. I didn't know what his purpose was in explaining to me. He could have said nothing, and I had no right to question him. But I still hoped Edward would come back, as I also needed his company and care.

For two consecutive days, Anne would call Edward to her room under the pretext of having nightmares. I realized that Anne was deliberately using nightmares to call Edward away, so I started planning to give Anne a small lesson. After much thought, I decided to address her nightmares.

I searched online for remedies for nightmares and, after a few days of careful selection, found a recipe that seemed mild and effective. It was just a mix of common herbs. I showed it to a friend who knew medicine, and after confirming it was safe and had no side effects, I felt good about my plan. The next step was to get Anne to drink it.

I handed Melissa the herbs and asked her to brew a portion for breakfast. That morning, during breakfast, I casually said in front of Anne and Edward, "You've been having nightmares lately and must not be sleeping well. You look so tired."

Maybe Anne wanted to provoke me. She actually said, "At first, I couldn't sleep well because of the nightmares, but since Edward has been sleeping with me, I feel much more secure. I might need Edward to stay with me for a while longer until I fully recover."

I cursed her silently a thousand times, 'Anne, you little bitch.' Then I said, "I found a remedy for nightmares for you. It's supposed to be very effective. After drinking it, you'll sleep soundly and won't have nightmares."

Anne hesitated for a moment but pretended to be interested, "Really? What kind of remedy is it?"

I slowly recited the recipe I had memorized and emphasized, "These are all good herbs. I've heard that many people with sleep problems got better after using this remedy."

Noticing Edward's interest in our conversation, I raised my voice and said, "I asked the doctor to prepare some herbs, and it's already brewed. I was just about to give it to you to try!"

Anne frowned when she heard it was a herbal concoction and said, "But the taste of herbs is awful. I can't drink it."

I smiled, "Anne, I knew you wouldn't like bitter things. But I've tried this remedy myself, and it tastes much better than the herbs I drink. I even added a bit of honey, so it's not bitter at all but a little sweet. Melissa, bring the concoction to Anne!"

Melissa, hearing my words from the kitchen, brought out a bowl of the concoction and placed it on the table, "Ms. York, if you drink this, you won't be troubled by nightmares anymore and won't be so scared at night."

Anne was still hesitant. I further provoked her, "I drink so many bitter herbal concoctions every day to have a baby for Edward."

Anne mumbled softly, "I'm still worried about the taste."

I pushed the bowl towards Anne, my eyes showing encouragement, and smiled, "Anne, it doesn't smell that bad. Just take a small sip. If you really can't drink it, then forget it."

Anne looked at me and then at Edward. Edward, also interested in the remedy, said, "Diana wouldn't harm you. You should try it."
