Chapter 383 Limited to Business Cooperation

Seeing David in such pain, I couldn't help but try to comfort him. "Why not channel all your energy into your career? You've got talent and ability; don't waste it. Look ahead and reclaim everything the Wilson family has lost."

David gave a bitter smile, his eyes misting with tears, his voice shaky with emotion. He continued, "Diana, you have no idea how hard it is for me right now. The real estate project that the Griffin Group and Nicholas snatched from us was the most promising one for the Wilson Group and crucial for the Wilson family's future rise. But it got split up because of that damned business marriage. The Griffin family has been publicly claiming they were funding us, but the truth is, they only did overseas business before. They used the Wilson Group's market share in the country to establish themselves here. Now that Fiona and I are divorced, the Griffin family is taking advantage of the situation, leaving my company with a tight cash flow, barely able to keep things running. Every day, I'm scrambling to find ways to manage the funds."

David sat on the couch, his head buried between his knees.

He was right; the Griffin family's actions were indeed shady. But I also realized that David was too caught up in his negativity.

I said, "I get it's tough for you, but complaining won't solve anything. Since it's already happened, we need to find a way to fix it. Your career should be your main focus right now."

David didn't seem to grasp my advice and continued angrily, "And there's something even more infuriating! After Fiona and I divorced, she actually started fully supporting Edward's startup. She handed over all the relationships and resources she took from the Wilson Group to Edward. I can't bear this!"

It seemed my instincts were right. Fiona and Edward had indeed teamed up. This was good for Edward but disastrous for the Wilson family and David.

For those of us running stable businesses, they might become future competitors. It looked like the winds were changing in Wind City.

I sat down next to David, looking at him earnestly. I remarked, "I understand your anger; anyone would feel the same. But you need to realize that we can't control what Fiona and Edward do. You can, however, control your own life. Instead of fixating on them, think about how to lead the Wilson Group out of this crisis. If you can bounce back and lead the Wilson Group to recovery, that will be the best revenge against Fiona and Edward."

David slowly raised his head, his eyes locking onto mine, a flicker of determination shining in them, as if he had made an important decision within himself.

He replied, "Diana, you're right. I can't keep sinking deeper like this. I need to pull myself up, for the Wilson family and for my own sake."

His gaze lingered on my face, as if trying to etch my image into his memory.

He continued, "All those days, it felt like I was lost in darkness, just floating through life. But today, you walked in, and it's as if a light has pierced through to my heart."

David spoke with sincerity, his gaze firmly on mine, attentive to every nuance of my expression.

He remarked, "For years, I've regretted countless times in the dead of night, regretting that I let my family arrange that marriage and gave up our love. I believed that giving up love would lead to a stable family, but in the end, it felt hollow. Now, I don't want to lose you again."

A sharp pain pierced my heart, but I steeled myself and said, "You need to pull yourself together and focus on your work. I believe you have the ability to get the Wilson Group back on track."

David suddenly stood up, a hint of desperation in his eyes.He exclaimed, "Diana, what about us? Is there really no way back?"

As he stood, his sleeve knocked a glass off the coffee table, shattering it into pieces with a sharp sound.

Startled by the sudden noise, I turned away to avoid his gaze.

I said, "David, what we had is behind us; we can't turn back the clock. It's time for both of us to move on. You should concentrate on your career and embrace your true self."

David's eyes clouded over immediately, a flicker of desperation lingering as he yearned to say something that might change my mind.

I continued, "I can help you revive the Wilson Group."

I moved to the hallway, looking at David's stiff back amidst the mess.

I added, "But only as a business partner."

The broken glass shards glinted in the sunlight. With that, I turned and quickly left, leaving David standing there alone.

After leaving David's house, I walked briskly to the street and hailed a cab.

Once inside, I leaned back in the seat, David's pained yet hopeful eyes constantly replaying in my mind. I closed my eyes, trying to calm my chaotic thoughts.

"Miss, where to?" The driver's question pulled me back to reality.

I opened my eyes, hesitated for a moment, then gave my office address.

The car started, and the street scenes outside flashed by like a slideshow, but my mind was elsewhere.

Arriving at the office, I headed straight to my own office. Once seated, I opened my computer and began organizing my work.

Soon, my phone vibrated. I picked it up instinctively and saw a message from David: [Diana, I know I shouldn't bother you anymore, but please believe me, I will definitely revive the Wilson family's business.]

Staring at the message, I hovered my fingers above the screen, uncertain about how to respond. Eventually, I placed the phone face down on the desk, forcing myself to continue working.

However, tasks that usually came easily now seemed fraught with errors.

Amy knocked on the door and walked in, her face full of concern. She asked, "Ms. Cooper, you don't seem to be in good shape today. Are you feeling unwell?"

I managed a weak smile and said, "I'm fine. I probably just didn't sleep well last night and am a bit distracted. By the way, can you gather all the overlapping business between the Wilson Group and the Cooper Group and get it to me as soon as possible?"

Amy's face showed a hint of confusion, and she couldn't help but ask, "Ms. Cooper, why the sudden need to organize the overlapping business with the Wilson Group?"

Leaning back in my chair, I explained seriously, "I'm considering the possibility of cooperation between the two companies. Despite the Wilson Group's current difficulties, they are still a decades-old enterprise with considerable resources and influence. If we can complement each other, it could be beneficial for both sides."

Amy listened, her brows furrowing slightly, and she reminded me with concern, "But the Wilson family is currently in a big conflict with Nicholas and the Griffin family. If we cooperate with the Wilson family, won't we risk offending Nicholas and the Griffin family?"

I shook my head gently and explained patiently, "As long as we steer clear of Nicholas's core interests, it shouldn't be a major problem. Besides, our tech project with Lucas is at a critical cooperation stage, and Nicholas won't easily jeopardize that relationship. As for the Griffin family, Fiona has already seen me as a rival since her divorce from David. Whether we cooperate or not, her attitude towards me won't change much."

Amy nodded thoughtfully and replied, "Got it. I'll get right on it."

With that, she turned and quickly left the office.
