Chapter 345 Two bastards
Just as we were chatting, David stepped out of the elevator. He looked totally exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes.
"Diana, what's going on? Why'd you need to see me so urgently?" he asked.
"Let's talk in my office," he said, leading me there.
In David's minimalist office, I told him the whole story about Lila's kidnapping.
"We have to do something. Lucas can't handle this alone, but he's refusing my help," I said, feeling anxious.
David frowned, deep in thought. "I get it. Lila's our friend, and I can't just stand by. But right now, Fiona's really suspicious of our relationship, and she's still in the hospital. I can't leave her alone."
I nodded. "I know. I don't want to put you in a tough spot either. We can figure something out together. Maybe we can find some clues and rescue Lila as soon as possible."
As we were talking, we suddenly heard footsteps approaching.
I looked up to see Fiona standing at the office door. Her face was pale, and her eyes were cold.
When she saw David and me sitting side by side on the couch, her expression darkened instantly. "What are you two doing?" she asked coldly.
Before David and I could respond, Fiona's gaze darted between us, as if trying to uncover some "secret" from our expressions.
Her eyes gradually filled with suspicion, especially when they landed on me, sharp enough to pierce through me.
"Fiona, why are you here? You're not well yet; you shouldn't be running around," David quickly said, trying to break the suffocating tension. He took a step forward, attempting to approach Fiona.
But Fiona stepped back abruptly, avoiding David's outstretched hand, and pointed at me, demanding, "What are you two doing? Why are you here?"
Her voice was sharp and trembling, clearly on the verge of losing control.
Seeing this, I quickly explained, "Fiona, don't misunderstand. We're discussing how to save Lila. She's been kidnapped, and the situation is very urgent."
However, my explanation had no impact; Fiona didn't believe a word of it.
Her eyes widened, filled with suspicion and anger.
She shook her head vehemently, shouting, "Don't lie to me! Lila kidnapped? How convenient that you two are here discussing it together? I don't believe it!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly lunged at me.
Her hands raised high, fingers clawing towards my face.
David's heart raced as he saw her determined to reveal an unspoken secret between them. His face went pale, and he quickly stepped in, grabbing her arm and saying, "Fiona, just calm down! It's not what you think!"
Yet Fiona had completely lost her mind and wouldn't listen to any reasoning.
She deftly evaded David's attempt to stop her and lunged at me, her nails inching perilously close to my face, while the tension in the room skyrocketed.I wasn't quick enough to dodge, and a sharp pain sliced across my cheek.
David's eyes widened in horror as he quickly grabbed Fiona. "Fiona, calm down!"
"You're still protecting her! You two really are having an affair!" Fiona struggled and screamed, her usual kindness replaced by jealousy and rage.
"Fiona, it's really not what you think. Diana is here for Lila. We're just discussing how to rescue her." David desperately tried to defend me.
But the more he said, the more convinced Fiona became of her suspicions.
"Rescue plan, sure. Alone together in the early morning, who can say what you're truly up to?" Fiona sneered, then suddenly slapped David across the face.
While David was stunned, she broke free from his grip and lunged at me again.
This time, as she charged at me, she muttered, "I'll teach you a lesson today!"
I kept retreating, trying to avoid her attacks, while continuously explaining, "Fiona, you really misunderstood. We're just discussing how to save Lila."
Her attacks grew more intense, swiping files and office supplies off the desk, toppling the pen holder and sending pens flying everywhere.
The office descended into chaos, filled with noise.
Hearing the commotion, the receptionist hurried over and shouted, "What's going on? Why is Mrs. Wilson so angry?"
Employees just arriving at work were stunned by the sudden chaos, exchanging bewildered glances.
Some wanted to intervene, but seeing Fiona's near-mad state, they felt as if their legs were glued to the ground, fear holding them back from taking a step closer.
The receptionist's eyes flicked between David and me, her voice barely a whisper. "Mr. Wilson and this lady alone together so early in the morning, discussing life-and-death issues? Could Mr. Wilson be cheating? No wonder Mrs. Wilson is furious." Her soft words ignited a wave of suspicion among the bystanders, who started whispering and casting wary glances at David and me.
David was equally anxious, repeatedly raising his hand to stop the out-of-control Fiona, but hesitating each time.
He knew, as I did, that Fiona's emotions were extremely unstable. Any misstep could make things worse and put me in more danger.
Finally, David managed to hold Fiona from behind tightly.
She stiffened, then struggled even harder, twisting her body and screaming hysterically, "David, let me go! You're doing this for her? Do I even matter to you?"
Her eyes were wide with rage, glaring at me.
"Fiona, calm down. It's really not what you think." David's voice trembled with helplessness as he tightened his grip on Fiona, desperately trying to quell her madness.
But Fiona wouldn't listen to David's explanations.
She kicked wildly, knocking over chairs.
She used all her strength to shake off David's grip, cursing, "You two bastards. I won't let you off today!"
