Chapter 295 Three Men Gather

I looked into Alaric's worried eyes, and the words I wanted to say got stuck in my throat. I just nodded. After Alaric finished all the paperwork for my hospital admission and got me settled in the room, I looked at him and said, "Thanks a lot for today, Alaric. Even though the Howard Group is struggling right now, I'm not giving up. And as for Anne, she'll get what's coming to her."

Alaric smiled, his eyes full of determination. "Of course. But right now, the most important thing is for you to get better. Don't worry about the company for now. Diana, I want you to know that no matter what happens, I'll always be here for you—whether it's about the company or your safety. Let me take care of you."

A warm feeling filled my heart.

"You must be hungry. I'll go get some food and bring you some essentials. You rest here for now." With that, Alaric left the room.

I leaned back on the bed, my thoughts drifting back to the crazy events of the day.

Anne's crazed and twisted face still haunted me. Her obsession with so-called "justice" had thrown everything into chaos, and it was terrifying. I silently promised to handle the Howard Group's affairs with more care moving forward, making sure such crises would never happen again.

Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door. I thought it was Alaric returning and said casually, "Come in."

To my surprise, it was Joshua standing at the door.

Seeing this, I quickly sat up straight.

Joshua, dressed in his police uniform, walked over to my bedside with a concerned look. He said, "Diana, I heard from my colleagues about the incident at the café today. Are you okay?"

His worried eyes pulled me back to memories of our student days. Back then, I was just a law intern being stalked because of a case. Joshua, who had just become a police officer, was assigned to protect me. During that time, he was always by my side, making sure I was safe, and he truly helped me a lot.

He pursued me back then, and if it weren't for my deep love for Edward, I might have ended up marrying Joshua and living a simple life. But there were no what-ifs in life, and Joshua and I ultimately went our separate ways.

I forced a smile and said, "I'm fine. The doctor just wants me to stay for observation. Thanks for checking in."

Joshua pulled a chair over and sat down, his tone firm. "I promised to protect you in the past, and that hasn't changed. Diana, even though we haven't been in touch much over the years, I've always been keeping an eye on you. I know about every progress and every difficulty you've faced. If you ever need anything, please tell me. I'll always be here for you."

I felt a warmth in my heart but shook my head seriously. "Joshua, I really appreciate all your help and care over the years, but you have your own life to live. You can't always be worrying about me."Joshua looked at me stubbornly, his eyes filled with determination. "I have my own life, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to protect you. All these years, I've always wanted to quietly watch over you and your child."

Just then, the door opened, and Alaric walked in with the stuff he had bought. He paused when he saw Joshua. Joshua turned and was also momentarily stunned.

Alaric smiled politely. "Hey, I'm Alaric, a friend of Diana's."

Joshua stood up, seemingly mistaking Alaric for my boyfriend, and smiled back. "Hey, I'm Joshua."

Seeing Joshua in his police uniform, Alaric nodded with recognition. "Ah, so you're Officer Thomas."

I quickly introduced them. "Joshua and I have known each other for about ten years. He just heard about what happened and came to check on me."

Alaric placed the items aside and looked at Joshua with concern. "Officer Thomas, can I ask how the investigation into the café incident is going?"

Joshua's expression turned serious. "The case is currently being processed. Anne's actions are being investigated for intentional harm and endangering public safety. The officers in charge are still gathering evidence, and she will definitely be punished according to the law," he said.

Alaric nodded, his tense nerves relaxing a bit. "That's good to hear. With you on the case, we feel more at ease."

The atmosphere in the room was a bit tense, but then something even more awkward happened.

As we were talking, the door suddenly burst open.

Everyone turned to look.

Edward rushed in, his hair disheveled, and wearing a faded, wrinkled old shirt, a stark contrast to Alaric's sharp suit and Joshua's crisp uniform. But Edward didn't seem to care. His eyes scanned the room anxiously, and in the next moment, he was at my bedside, pulling me into a tight hug, his voice trembling with emotion. "Diana, I just heard what happened. I was so scared."

I was caught off guard by the sudden hug, my body stiffening. I instinctively tried to pull away, but Edward held on too tightly. After a few futile attempts, I looked to Alaric for help. Alaric, who had been smiling while talking to Joshua, now had a look of displeasure on his face. His brows furrowed tightly as he stared at Edward.

A young nurse hurried in after Edward, saying, "Sir, you can't..." She stopped mid-sentence, taking in the scene and seeming to understand, freezing at the door.

Joshua, also displeased by Edward's sudden entrance, walked over to the nurse, showing his badge. "Hello, I'm a police officer. This patient is involved in a case I'm handling. This gentleman's behavior is disturbing her rest. Please ask him to leave."

The nurse, already annoyed with Edward, now looked even more impatient. "Sir, this is a hospital room. Please keep quiet and do not disturb the patient. If you don't have a special reason, please leave." With that, she gestured towards the door.
