Chapter 348 Found Lila

After saying goodbye to Lucas, I had to keep it together and head back home.

I might've looked all confident in front of Lucas, but deep down, I knew reaching out to programmer Micah Porter for the patent authorization was a long shot. And Lila's situation was even more pressing.

As soon as I got home, I bolted straight to my study.

I fired up my computer and kept refreshing my inbox like a maniac, hoping Micah would reply.

Every click felt like a sledgehammer on my already frayed nerves.

While waiting, I didn't waste a second. I was all over industry forums and social groups, trying to dig up any info on Micah.

But time kept slipping away, and the email notification I was dying to see never popped up. My anxiety was through the roof. I started pacing back and forth in the study.

Images of Lila in danger kept flashing through my mind.

Feeling powerless and almost suffocating, I couldn't give up. Lila was counting on me. I grabbed my phone, ready to call some industry vets for their insights.

Just as I picked up my phone, it buzzed.

I thought it was Micah's reply, but it was a message from Alaric: [Found Lila.]

Seeing Alaric's message, my hand shook, and my heart skipped a beat.

Almost instinctively, I dialed Lucas's number.

The phone rang a few times before Lucas's tired yet cautious voice answered, "Hello?"

"Lucas!" I was so excited my voice went up an octave. "Alaric just messaged, saying they've found Lila!"

The other end of the line went dead silent. I could hear my heart pounding.

After a few seconds, Lucas's voice trembled, "Really? Are you sure it's Lila? Where is she? Is she okay?"

"The message just came in. I haven't had time to ask for the address yet." As I spoke, I was already replying to Alaric, asking for the details.

"But if he said it, it must be true." I couldn't hide my joy and spoke with confidence.

"Okay, I'll wait for your message. Hurry!" Lucas said urgently, a complete 180 from his previous indifference.

I could picture him on the other end, filled with hope and ready to rush to Lila's side.

"Alright, I'll send you the address in a bit."

After hanging up, I paced around the room, eyes glued to my phone, waiting for Alaric's reply. Every second felt like an eternity, and I kept praying Lila was safe.

Before long, the doorbell rang urgently. I rushed to open the door, and there stood Alaric, his hair a bit messy, but his eyes shining with an intense light.

"Do you have the address?" I asked eagerly.

"Not yet, but it should be soon," Alaric said as he stepped inside.

We stood in the living room, neither of us sitting down, eyes glued to our phone screens. The air was thick with tension and excitement. Finally, the phone screen lit up, and the system located the detailed address!I quickly sent the address to the equally anxious Lucas and then headed out with Alaric.

On the way, Alaric gripped the steering wheel tightly, driving way faster than usual, his eyes laser-focused on the road ahead.

I sat in the passenger seat, constantly refreshing my phone, watching as our location got closer and closer to the spot marked for Lila.

When we reached the docks on the outskirts of the city, the place was eerily quiet. The container doors were half-open, giving off a creepy vibe.

Alaric and I cautiously approached, using the faint moonlight to spot several blurry figures moving around the containers.

We crouched down and slowly made our way to the side of the container, trying to find a good spot to see inside.

Just then, a faint cry for help came from a cargo ship.

I shuddered and said excitedly, "That's Lila's voice!"

"Be careful; don't let them spot us," Alaric whispered.

We were about to make a move when a sharp screech of brakes pierced the night.

I turned towards the sound and saw a car racing towards us, stopping abruptly in the open space in front of the container with a loud screech.

In my moment of distraction, the car door swung open, and Lucas emerged, gripping a gun as he charged out.

He didn't care about the danger around him and headed straight for the container door.

"Lucas, are you crazy!" Seeing this, Alaric quickly dashed over and used all his strength to pull Lucas into the shadows beside the container.

But Lucas's reckless move had already alerted the kidnappers inside the container, and a commotion erupted as they poured out, armed with various weapons.

I was so scared I could barely move.

But thinking of Lila being held inside, I gritted my teeth and followed Alaric, looking for a chance to board the cargo ship.

I had only one firm thought in my mind: I must rescue Lila safely.

Lucas, holding his gun, kept changing positions, shooting at the kidnappers with precision. The gunfire scared the kidnappers, making them dodge.

Suddenly, a burly kidnapper wielding a thick iron rod approached Lucas from behind.

"Lucas, watch out!" I shouted.

Lucas sidestepped, easily dodging the blow. He then stepped forward and smashed the gun's butt into the kidnapper's wrist.

A bone-cracking sound echoed, and the kidnapper cried out in pain, dropping the iron rod.

But he wasn't done yet. With his other hand, he punched Lucas in the stomach.

Caught off guard, Lucas was knocked to the ground, writhing in pain.

Alaric quickly joined the fight. He tackled a kidnapper trying to sneak up on Lucas, pinning him to the ground. The two wrestled fiercely.

"Diana, go save Lila!" In the chaos, Lucas shouted at me.

He then resumed fighting the kidnappers, throwing punches at one until the kidnapper's face was bruised and swollen, unable to resist.

Alaric, having dealt with one kidnapper, quickly returned to my side. He grabbed my hand and led me to the narrow gangplank connecting the dock to the cargo ship. "We can board the ship from here, hurry!"
