Chapter 240 Wedding, Go? Not Go?
Lila stopped for a second, her face getting all serious. "I don't care who his parents are. It doesn't matter to me. He treats me well, and we really love each other. That's all that counts."
She grabbed Lucas's hand and waved it in front of me. "Alright, enough of that. I'm starving. Let's go eat!"
Lila spoke to Lucas with affection, and the two of them walked into the restaurant side by side.
I followed them inside, shaking my head with mixed emotions. Who would've thought that Lila, who always preached about staying single, would find love like this?
Even though Lila seemed sure about Lucas, I still felt uneasy. I decided to find a way to test him. Throughout the meal, Lucas was very attentive to Lila, pouring her wine and handing her napkins, almost to the point of being overly considerate.
I watched all this quietly, smirking to myself. Lucas was clearly trying to win Lila over with these small acts of kindness. Though his methods weren't sophisticated, it was obvious he was putting in effort.
After a few rounds of drinks, Lila's eyes sparkled with excitement, and soon the conversation turned to David's wedding.
"By the way, David said we should both go to the wedding. Are you going?" Lila tilted her head back and downed another glass of wine.
"Alright, sweetheart, you've had enough to drink tonight. No more," Lucas said, taking her wine glass and replacing it with a glass of juice.
Seeing how Lucas genuinely cared for Lila, I felt a bit more at ease. I sighed and said, "He told me about it, but I don't plan on going."
"Why not?" Lila asked, picking up her glass again. She took a sip and realized it was juice instead of wine. She frowned slightly but didn't get angry, finishing the juice in one gulp.
I sighed, feeling a bit sad. "After everything that's happened between us, going to his wedding would just be humiliating."
Lucas, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up. "If I were you, I'd definitely go."
"Yeah, why not go? Don't you want to see who the Wilson family chose for David?" Lila added.
I didn't want Lila to worry about me, nor did I want anyone to know that I had met Fiona and knew she had fallen for Edward at first sight. So I shrugged and said nonchalantly, "She's just another person, nothing special."
Lila suddenly hugged Lucas and kissed his forehead. "You know, if it weren't for family connections, the one standing with David at the wedding would be you, not that girl from the Griffin family. Right, darling?"
Lucas nodded, hugging Lila back and kissing her. "You're right, baby. You're always right."
I didn't want to watch Lila and Lucas flaunt their affection, feeling conflicted inside. "Everyone thinks I should go, so I guess I will."
Lucas's expression turned serious. "You guys have been friends forever. Even just for the sake of that friendship, you should go see your friend getting married."
Lila leaned on Lucas's shoulder. "That's true. David is our friend, and if he moves to Ignis after the wedding, we might not see him again."
I stood there, listening to their conversation, lost in thought.
"By the way," Lila suddenly remembered something, breaking the silence, "Daisy will be coming back for David's wedding too."
"What? Daisy's coming back?" I asked in surprise. "Isn't she always swamped with work? How does she have time to come back?"
Lila shook her head. "I heard she has an interview here, and she probably wants to see David one last time. With Daisy and me there, what are you worried about?"
I thought to myself that it would be nice to see Daisy again. With that in mind, I made up my mind. "Alright, let's go to David's wedding together."
The day before the wedding, there was a pre-wedding party as usual. I stood in the hotel lobby, feeling exhausted. David's wedding wasn't something I was thrilled about, but fate had dragged me here anyway.
Lila clung to my arm and whispered in my ear, "Diana, if you're feeling upset, just let it out. Don't hold it in." Lucas nodded in agreement.
Just then, a familiar figure rushed towards us. It was Daisy, who had just flown in from abroad.
Daisy hugged me tightly, her voice choked with emotion. "Diana, as soon as I finished my work, I rushed back. I can't believe you've been through so much after your divorce from Edward."
As I leaned on her shoulder, the sadness I had been holding back finally broke free, and I started to cry.
Daisy tried to comfort me. "Diana, don't cry. If I had known David was such a jerk, I would never have let him pursue you."
Before she could finish, David, reeking of alcohol, stumbled out of the elevator, mumbling, "Sweetheart."
We all froze, watching as he staggered towards us. When he finally stood in front of me, his face showed a complex expression. Then, he suddenly reached out, trying to pull me into a hug.
Lila and Lucas exchanged a quick glance, and Lucas immediately stepped forward, blocking David's path.
Seeing his way blocked, David slumped to the floor, holding his head in his hands, muttering, "Diana, I'm sorry. I'm getting married tomorrow, but the bride isn't you."
Looking at his disheveled state, I felt that my emotions were a whirlwind, and I didn't know how to respond.
