Chapter 15 Our Child
I didn't have time to deal with Edward. I was too busy trying to catch my breath. After what felt like forever, I finally started to feel a bit better.
Edward's white shirt was soaked, clinging to him and showing off his muscles.
Normally, I'd be all over that, but right now, I just wanted to cry and hit him.
Edward grabbed my wrists and pinned me against the bathtub. "You're mine. Whether you can handle it or not isn't your call."
"Sleeping with you isn't your call either!" I fought back, but I was no match for his strength. I was exhausted from being drunk and suffocated, barely able to move, completely at his mercy.
Edward, who usually seemed so gentle, had turned into a monster.
He grabbed my hair and pressed me against the tub, leaning over to forcefully kiss me.
My lips were numb and sore. In my struggle, I bit his lip.
Edward let go, wiping the blood from his mouth with his thumb.
"You dare bite me? Guess I've been too nice to you." He found it thrilling and kept tormenting me in the tub.
This was Edward's revenge, his way of punishing me. He wanted to show me that my struggles were pointless. My life and fate were in his hands.
This side of Edward terrified me. I trembled under him, slipping to the bottom of the tub several times, only to be pulled back by him. Was this still the man I had loved for twenty years?
At that moment, I missed my dad. He had warned me against marrying Edward, but I was hopelessly in love. Now, looking back, it wasn't love; it was a trap. Dad, I'm sorry. In the house you gave me, I'm being bullied by Edward. I wiped my tears and looked at Edward calmly, saying, "I love you, yet you treat me like this. What if I stop loving you? So I won't love you anymore!"
Edward's face grew serious, but his voice stayed the same. "Doesn't matter. Whether you love me or not, you're still mine. Aren't you?"
When Edward pulled me out of the tub, I could barely stand. He propped me up against the sink and took me from behind.
I looked at Edward in the mirror, and at myself. Everything felt so unfamiliar.
When I opened my eyes again, the sky was clear. The dried water stains on the floor reminded me of how heavy the rain was last night, and how intense things had been. Even the dressing table and the bay window bore traces of our night.
Shame washed over me, and I couldn't help but cry out, "Edward, I hate you."
How long will it take before I can think of Edward without feeling heartache?
The bedroom door opened, and Edward appeared wearing an apron, holding a steaming bowl of noodles. He said coldly, "I'm not dead yet."
Edward's sudden appearance made me forget to cry.
"Why haven't you left yet!" I threw off the covers and struggled to sit up, my body aching too much to move.
"You seduced me, and now you want me to leave?" His tone was mocking, his gaze lingering on my body.
Following his gaze, I looked down to find myself completely naked, covered in red marks. I quickly pulled the covers over myself and grabbed a pillow, throwing it at him with all my strength. "Edward, what do I owe you that you treat me and the Cooper Family like this?"
I wasn't just talking about his violence towards me, but also the Cooper Family's business.
Edward shrugged. "Who was it last night that clung to me, begging for more?"
Edward walked right up to my bedside, set the bowl on the nightstand, and leaned in to hold me. I quickly curled my legs up to keep some distance between us.
"What, you want more?" he taunted, spreading my legs and pulling them around his waist. "Last night, your legs were wrapped around me just like this."
I yanked my legs back. I couldn't figure out why the guy who used to hide in the closet and jerk off to Anne's photo was now all over me.
Edward chuckled, tracing a circle on my lower abdomen with his finger. "I didn't use protection last night. You can give me a kid now."
His words made me shudder.
His finger trailed from my flat stomach up to behind my ear.
He leaned in and whispered, "Too bad we couldn't do it with you in lingerie."
Edward kissed me, teasing me to the extreme.
My nerves felt like they were on fire, completely breaking down.
I knew Edward didn't love me, but facing his advances, this clear yet sinking feeling made me feel both wronged and devastated.
I turned my head, trying to avoid contact with Edward. "I don't want to have your child. I want a divorce."
"Go ahead and try to divorce me." Edward kissed my forehead. "You'll never succeed."
I glared at him, saying, "Edward, do you really think I'm blind to what's going on between you and Anne?"
Edward let go of me, saying coldly, "Don't mention her."
"I have to!" The fire in my heart flared up.
"Anne is just my sister. We've been like this since we were kids!"
I shouted, "You really disgust me."
Edward raised his voice, saying, "Then what do you want me to do?"
"Divorce!" I said firmly, though my heart felt like it was being pricked by needles.
Edward was silent for a long time, then muttered to himself, almost as if complaining to me, "You cry your heart out, yet you still want to leave me. Didn't you want a child? I agree."
I said weakly, "I only want to have a child with someone I love. But now, I don't want to anymore."
This time, Edward didn't argue. He lowered his head like a child who had done something wrong and walked out of my room. The front door opened and closed.
'Edward, will there ever be a place for me in your heart?' I wondered.
I was starving, so I picked up the bowl of noodles and started eating. This was the first time Edward had cooked since we got married.
While I was eating, Mia called, but I hung up. Mia kept calling until I finished the last sip of noodle soup, and then I answered.
Mia shouted, "Diana, I've called you so many times and you didn't answer. Where have you been?"
Mia's scolding hit me like a storm, destroying the good mood I had just started to cultivate.
I didn't want to talk to her, so I quietly listened to Mia warning me not to have any more contact with Nicholas. I thought about it and agreed for now.
Judging by Mia's attitude towards Nicholas, there must be some deep-seated grudges from the previous generation.
"I heard Edward was with you last night? You need to win his heart quickly and give him a child. Only then will your position in the Howard Family be secure. Only then will our Cooper Family's status in Wind City be secure."
I didn't understand why Mia cared so much about the Cooper Family's status but didn't care at all about my happiness.
"Mom, I've already decided to divorce Edward," I couldn't help but interrupt her.
"You! You're going to drive me crazy!"
With that, Mia hung up the phone.
I lay in bed until the afternoon, the traces of last night all around me making me anxious. I took out my phone and ordered a full house cleaning, then made plans to go shopping with Lila.
