Chapter 314 The Last Ray of Hope
I spent the whole night sorting through all the details about our company's goods, the customs seizure documents, and anything that could prove we were innocent. I went over everything meticulously, double-checking until I felt a bit more at ease.
Early the next morning, I headed to the customs building. An indifferent officer greeted me.
Trying to keep my cool, I explained our company's situation in detail. But the officer just kept giving me the runaround, pointing out issues with our declaration documents and even hinting at possible tax evasion.
I knew there had to be more to this, maybe someone pulling strings behind the scenes. This situation was far from simple.
Back at the office, I was in a real bind.
On one hand, Skylar had been missing for over 24 hours, and I was worried sick about her, hoping Nicholas would find her soon. On the other hand, I couldn't just sit back and watch our company's goods get seized and manipulated by competitors.
I paced back and forth in my office, my mind racing with thoughts, but I couldn't make sense of anything. In desperation, I could only wait anxiously for news from Nicholas while starting to investigate the mysterious forces behind customs targeting the Cooper Group.
Theo noticed my anxiety and, after a moment of silence, said, "If we want to get our goods back quickly, we might need more than just our own efforts."
"What do you mean?" I asked, puzzled by Theo's suggestion.
"Maybe we should seek help from others. If someone could put in a good word for us at customs, this issue with the goods might be resolved." Theo's tone carried a hint of hope.
"But who can help us?" Faces of various officials flashed through my mind.
"The Griffin family," Theo said.
"The Griffin family?" I was even more confused.
To me, the Griffin Group and our company had overlapping business interests and were usually competitors. Was it really feasible to ask the Griffin family for help?
"Yes, the Griffin family," Theo said confidently. "In terms of overseas business, the Griffin family is the biggest and the best. They must have extensive connections in this area. If we can get their help, the issue with our goods could be resolved."
I slowly shook my head and sighed. "Even though Fiona and I have a good relationship, the Griffin Group is still our competitor. When it comes to major interests, Fiona might not be willing to help us."
"Give it a try, Diana. If we don't, we might never get our goods back. Not only that, but we'll also have to compensate the buyers heavily, which would be a huge loss." Theo's tone was full of concern, and his brows were furrowed tightly.
"You're right. I'll think about it. Have you contacted the buyers?" I asked, rubbing my throbbing forehead as I suddenly remembered this matter.
Seeing my state, Theo gently reassured me, "Don't worry too much. Take a break. The buyers understand our situation and have agreed to extend the delivery time. We're also actively communicating with customs to get the goods back."With that, Theo left my office.
Alone, I leaned back in my chair, trying to relax my tense nerves. But reality kept throwing one problem after another at me, and I felt like I was about to be overwhelmed.
After much deliberation, I decided to try seeking help from the Griffin family. This might be our last hope to resolve the company's goods crisis.
With all the relevant materials prepared, I drove to the Griffin Group. David and Fiona joined the Griffin Group after getting married. They had been stationed in Ignis to expand the Griffin Group's territory. Recently, Fiona got pregnant, and they returned home and set up an office here.
The office was small, with just a tiny reception area. As soon as I pushed the door open, the receptionist stood up and politely stopped me. "Hello, I'm sorry, but without an appointment, I can't allow you to enter."
I was at a loss and quickly explained, "But I really need to see Fiona."
The receptionist remained polite. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Wilson is not in the office right now."
"What about David? Can I see David?" I asked urgently.
"Mr. Wilson is not here either," the receptionist replied with a professional smile.
Unwilling to give up, I pressed on, "Are they in the country? I really need to see them."
The receptionist turned and picked up a small booklet from the desk. "Mrs. Wilson said if you came looking for her, you should go to this address. If it's anyone else from your company, she won't see them."
My heart tightened. I didn't understand Fiona's intentions, but I had no choice. I quickly noted the address and hurried over.
As my car slowly entered the neighborhood, familiar streets and buildings came into view, and my heart skipped a beat. This was the same place David had shown me when we were in love and dreaming of a life together. We had discussed the layout of the living room and the colors of the bedroom and even chosen a simple yet cozy decor style for our future home. But life had other plans, and David and Fiona ended up choosing this neighborhood to settle down.
My emotions became complicated.
Standing at the door, I took a deep breath to calm my nerves before slowly pressing the doorbell.
After a while, the door creaked open, and there stood Wren, the plump housekeeper who had served David before.
Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw me. "Ms. Cooper, what brings you here?"
I glanced inside nervously. "Are David and Fiona home?"
"Yes, they are," Wren said warmly, ushering me in. "They said they were expecting a guest, so it must be you. It's so nice to see you after all these years. You haven't changed a bit."
Wren spoke casually, like chatting with an old friend.
As I heard Wren's words, a wave of bitterness swept through me. This place was meant to be my home with David, filled with memories of our future plans. But now, everything had shifted.
Stepping inside, I tried to stay calm, silently reminding myself. Diana, you couldn't lose focus. You were there to solve the company's crisis, not to get caught up in the past.
