Chapter 60 Never Leaving You Again
Edward drove me back to the Howard Villa. As we pulled into the courtyard, Anne came out to greet us, still wearing that sweet smile of hers. But with Mia just passing away, her pink outfit felt really out of place.
"Diana, welcome back." Her voice was bright and cheerful, but her smile felt fake to me.
The villa looked just as fancy as when I left. The crystal chandelier was still shining brightly, lighting up every corner, but it couldn't touch the darkness in my heart. Edward leaned against the car door, watching us like a hawk, probably worried we'd start a fight. I forced a smile and said, "Anne, long time no see."
Anne walked up and grabbed my hand, leading me inside, but she was squeezing it hard. I watched her closely; she still had that innocent smile, and no one would guess she was being so forceful.
We walked side by side, and I could only catch glimpses of her expression. Anne leaned her head on my shoulder and whispered, "Diana, I never thought you'd come back. Don't think for a second this means you're welcome here, Diana. I won't let you stay."I leaned in and whispered back, "We'll see about that."
Seeing us so "close," Edward probably didn't expect us to be exchanging harsh words. "Alright, that's enough. It's been a while since you last saw each other, but you don't need to be so inseparable."
Anne immediately put on a sweet expression. "Oh, Edward, I've just missed her so much! It's been ages!" She looked at me with a smile, but I saw a hint of coldness in her eyes.
We walked into the villa.
The living room was a mess.
The high-end sofas were covered in clothes, and the large marble coffee table, which used to have fancy coffee cups and a crystal vase with fresh flowers, was now piled with half-eaten snack bags scattered everywhere. Despite being a big villa, Anne had managed to make it feel cramped and messy.
"Diana, you came back so suddenly; I didn't have time to tidy up." Her tone made it clear she thought she was the lady of the house.
I didn't call her out, just smiled and said, "It's okay, Anne. You can have Edward buy you as many snacks as you want."
"Really, Diana? That would be great." Anne held my hand like there was never any bad blood between us.
Melissa dragged my suitcase in and quietly asked at the door, "Mrs. Howard, your suitcase and Ms. Taylor's urn have been found. Do you want me to put them away?"
I nodded. "Thank you, Melissa."
"It's no trouble at all." It was clear Melissa was genuinely happy to see me back."Diana, while you were away, I felt lonely, so I moved into the master bedroom. You don't mind, do you?" Anne's tone was subtly challenging.
"If you do mind, I'll have Melissa move my things out right away." She said it like she was giving me a choice, but she didn't budge an inch.
I felt a pang of discomfort, but I knew arguing was pointless. I was Edward's wife, and the master bedroom should have been mine, but Anne had taken it over like she owned the place. During my absence, she clearly saw herself as the lady of the house.
I remembered what Mason had told me, "The higher you stand, the harder you fall." Since Anne liked standing high, why not let her? Arguing with her was meaningless.
So I just said lightly, "Anne, since you like the master bedroom, you can have it. I don't mind." Anne seemed taken aback by my reaction, hesitated for a moment, then said, "Thank you, Diana. I feel so secure sleeping with Edward." Her words made my stomach churn.
I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "Anne, we're all family; there's no need to fight over rooms. If you want to stay in the master bedroom, go ahead. Even if you want two rooms, I won't mind."
"Honey, don't you think so?" I slid my fingers over Edward's shirt collar and down his back. Edward reached out to fix my hair, kissed my forehead, and I slowly leaned into his arms, whispering, "Honey, you know I don't want to ruin our family's harmony over trivial matters. Besides, as long as we're together, it doesn't matter where we live, right?"
"Yes, Diana, you've become much more understanding." Edward seemed pleased with my words.
Seeing us being openly affectionate, Anne couldn't help but feel jealous, though she pretended to be happy. "Stop being so lovey-dovey; it's making me blush!" She then stormed off to her room. Watching Anne leave, I couldn't help but shake my head and sit on the sofa.
Edward whispered to me, "Ignore her; that's just how she is. You did great today, and I want to reward you." His eyes were full of passion and desire.
I tilted my head slightly, my bright eyes scanning every inch of Edward's face. My lips curled into a playful smile. "Oh, honey, Anne might be family, but even I can't help but feel a twinge of jealousy."
I wrapped my arms around Edward's waist, leaning my body against him, rubbing my face against his chest. He pulled me into his arms, his cool, soft lips pressing against mine, sending a faint electric current through my body.
His kiss was passionate and lingering. I looked up at him, my eyes full of happiness. "Honey, you're my best reward." I responded to Edward's kiss fervently, my hands slowly climbing up his neck, playing with his earlobe. I softened my voice, making it sound tender, saying, "Honey, I want you. I never want to be without you again."
