Chapter 234 Starting Anew

I said, "Letting Aria and Anne run wild at the Howard Group is gonna blow up in your face."

But honestly, I didn't get why I was so worried about him right then.

Edward shot back, "This is none of your business, unless you're thinking about remarrying me."

He smirked and added, "If you wanna talk about the Cooper Group, wait until David's situation is sorted out."

I couldn't help but ask, "What's going on with David?"

Edward's mood shifted to anger. "Diana, stop acting clueless. How could you not know?" he snapped.

"What should I know?" His sudden anger threw me off, and I had to ask.

Edward scoffed and raised his voice. "Diana, you're quite the actress. Are you seriously gonna say that what David did wasn't a scheme between you two?"

I was completely lost by his words. "What are you talking about? I really don't know."

Edward looked at me, surprised, like he didn't believe me. I shook my head, still confused.

Seeing this, Edward scoffed again and said slowly, "Since you don't know, I don't mind telling you. Your boyfriend's got some nerve."

I frowned and said, "Edward, just spit it out."

Edward retorted, "It seems like you don't care much about him. Haven't you noticed he hasn't contacted you for over a week?"

My heart skipped a beat. Thinking back, I realized that Edward was right. It had been over a week since I last heard from David, and my messages to him were still unread.

"What did you do to him?" I asked, immediately getting tense. I stared at Edward, trying to find answers in his expression.

"What do you hope I did to him?" Edward looked at me with a playful expression, like he was testing me, waiting for my response.

I had no time for Edward's games and replied directly, "I just want to know what happened."

Edward shrugged and said, "It's all because of the incident where Lanny drugged you. David held a grudge against Lanny. Last week, he reported Lanny's company."

Hearing this, I was stunned. "How could this happen?" I asked.

Edward watched my reaction and continued, "That's why I said he's impressive. He managed to pull this off, causing the Wilson Group's shares to drop significantly. It'll take a lot of effort for David and Lanny to fix things. Unfortunately, their mutual attacks led to a fight. David is in the hospital now. It's ridiculous!"

I rarely saw Edward laugh so heartily. Ignoring his true motives, I quickly asked, "David is in the hospital?"

"Why don't you take a look at this first?" Edward said as he connected his phone to the TV. The screen started playing a video of David in a hospital room.

Seeing David looking a bit rough in front of the camera, I couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache.

In the video, David detailed his actions against Lanny's company and promised to take responsibility for the losses caused to the Wilson Group. To make amends, he agreed to marry Fiona Griffin, the youngest daughter of the Griffin family, and move to Ignis. My heart ached as I watched.

What hurt even more was the sudden interruption of a female voice at the end of the video, "David, are you done recording?"

As David's gaze shifted off-camera, the video abruptly ended. I guessed the girl in the video was likely Fiona.

At the same time, I recalled the recent private meeting with David in Verdantwood, where he hesitated to answer a call, and what Daniel mentioned about "her," which was probably Fiona.

Suddenly, I felt short of breath, clutching my chest as I collapsed onto the couch. Seeing me like this, Edward asked with a half-smile, "So, any thoughts after watching?"

I stared at Edward, who didn't seem to expect an answer from me. He continued, "David begged me not to show you this video, but how could you give up without seeing it for yourself?"

I frowned and urgently asked, "What do you want me to do?"

"If you want the Cooper Group back, come with me to David's wedding. I'll handle the rest." Edward's voice was soft, but each word felt like a needle piercing my heart.

I struggled internally. The Cooper Group was my parents' legacy, and I had already lost it once. I had to get it back this time, no matter what. But attending David's wedding would be a huge torment for me. Yet, I seemed to have no other choice.

Noticing my silence, Edward headed towards the stairs. "Diana, I told you, I can wait for you to become Mrs. Howard again, but I hope you won't make me wait too long," he said.

I stood there, watching Edward's retreating figure, and asked, "Is there really no other choice?"

Edward replied, "Do you think you have any other options?"

Given Edward's persistence, I had to reconsider my position. After being hurt by love twice, emotions no longer mattered to me. I just wanted to reclaim what was mine.

I took a deep breath and slowly closed my eyes. I said, "Fine, I agree."

Hearing this, Edward suddenly walked over and scooped me up in his arms. "If you had made this decision earlier, we wouldn't have had to suffer like this, don't you think?" he said.

The sudden weightlessness made me uncomfortable. I closed my eyes and rested my head on Edward's shoulder, nodding slightly.

When I opened my eyes again, Edward had tossed me onto the master bedroom's bed.

The room, once Anne's, was now redecorated in my favorite style. It was clear Edward had put effort into redecorating it.

Edward caressed my cheek and asked, "How do you like it?"

I softly replied, "I like it."

"Good." Edward seemed pleased with my response. "Diana, I told you, we can start over anytime you want."

Start over? Was I really going to start over with Edward?

Before I could react, he suddenly reached out and pulled me into a tight embrace, squeezing me so hard I could barely breathe, as if he wanted to merge me into his body.
