Chapter 77 Always on My Mind

'Yeah, I need to get a grip,' I thought, suddenly calming down. I had to figure out what mattered most to me right now. With that in mind, I dashed out of the room and hugged Edward from behind.

I started to cry softly against his back, wrapping my arms around his waist. "Edward, I messed up. Please, don't leave me."

Edward seemed surprised, but his voice stayed calm. "Anne's a good girl. I'll make sure she behaves. So, I'll be spending more time with her. I hope you get that."

He continued, "I married you, and I'm not looking to get divorced easily. Take our marriage seriously and stop thinking about splitting up all the time. You're a girl too, and I get it if you want to be a bit impulsive now and then. If you want me to play the piano for you, or even if you want to go out and work, I can make that happen. But if you keep going against Anne and thinking about divorce, ask yourself if you can really leave me." His voice turned cold.

I started to shake a bit, my heart pounding. At that moment, I realized I had fallen into Edward's trap again. He was just testing me, seeing if I really had the guts to defy him. 'Fine, Edward, you win,' I thought, but I held onto him even tighter.

Edward turned around and gently lifted me by my hips. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and my legs around his waist. He carried me back to my guest bedroom. I knew Anne was watching from the shadows. Physical contact wasn't my trump card, but it could hit Anne hard. I wouldn't be proud of Edward's affection, nor would I shy away from facing Anne. Why not enjoy the moment?

Edward's steps were steady. His arms, like strong ropes, held me firmly. I could feel his biceps trembling slightly from the effort, his solid forearms bearing my weight steadily, yet his embrace didn't waver. I raised my hand, slowly combing through the hair at his temples, bringing back fragmented memories of our past. He seemed to pause slightly, but his steps remained steady as he walked toward the bedroom.

Soft moonlight poured in through the window, lighting up every corner of the room, and shining on Edward and me.

The potted plant by the window, its leaves glistening faintly in the dim light, seemed to witness everything that was about to happen.

I straddled his waist, feeling the heat of his body through the thin fabric. His body stiffened slightly, then relaxed. My hands rested nervously on his chest, feeling his strong heartbeat.

Edward's eyes, like two burning stars, locked onto me tightly. Various emotions surged in my heart. I slowly raised my head, meeting his gaze. In his eyes, I saw my reflection: a delicate face filled with a longing for love.

I bit my lower lip lightly and moved my body back a bit. This small action made Edward's gaze deepen. He reached out and wrapped his arms around my waist, his hands gently resting on my waist through the fabric, his fingers unconsciously caressing my waist. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly in a playful curve, as if enjoying my initiative.

I extended my index finger, gently tracing the contours of Edward's face, from his forehead to his nose and then to his sexy lips. His eyebrows twitched slightly, and with his subtle reactions, his eyebrows furrowed slightly. In those furrowed lines, there was a hint of restraint and an uncontrollable excitement. My fingertips brushed past his chin, leaving a trace of stubble that felt slightly prickly.

I looked into Edward's eyes, and he seemed to be admiring me like a prized possession, filled with burning desire.

"Do you want it?" I asked.

He hummed softly, "I want it all the time."

His response gave me a boost of confidence, excitement replacing my initial shyness.

I slowly lowered my head, closed my eyes, and moved my lips closer to his. The moment our lips touched, it felt like an electric current spread from my lips to every inch of my skin.

At first, it was just a light touch. Then, I pressed my lips against his a bit more, moving back and forth. He started to respond, his tongue gently prying open my lips, exploring my mouth, and intertwining with my tongue. His breathing got faster, and he held me tightly against his chest.

I could feel him getting hard, and he fixed me in his lap.

I remembered meeting Edward for the first time when I was 13. The sunlight seemed brighter that day, and his gaze felt like a beam of light shining into my heart, making it race like crazy. His polite smile as he sat at the piano held everything I wanted. I once thought I’d spend my whole life with him, this man I deeply loved, Edward. But after we got married, he started treating me coldly. The tenderness turned into impatience, and those sweet memories were replaced by endless waiting and disappointment. Finally, Edward’s betrayal shattered my beautiful dreams of love. The hatred in my heart grew wildly, like wildfire, almost engulfing my world.

"Tomorrow, have the bodyguards follow you to the law firm." That was the last thing Edward said to me that night. Bathed in moonlight, we lay entwined, our breaths mingling in the quiet night.

When I woke up, the sky was already bright. I rubbed my aching head and walked out of the bedroom.

At the corner of the stairs, Anne blocked my way. Her delicate face showed a wicked smile, which quickly disappeared, replaced by an innocent expression. "Diana, Edward didn't help me get to sleep last night."

"Really?" I said with a faint smile.

"We need to talk." With that, Anne tried to barge into my guest room.

I stepped forward, blocking her way. "Whatever you have to say, say it here."

"Edward said I should move back to the Howard mansion. You knew about this, right?" Anne asked.

I nodded, "This is my marital home with Edward. It’s only right for you to move back there."

"Do you think I stole Edward from you? So you want to drive me away?" Anne’s tone was full of resentment.

I moved slightly, looking up at her, "Edward and I are married. He belongs to me. If you want someone to help you get to sleep, you should get a boyfriend, not Edward. You’re already 22; it’s not a teenage crush anymore."

"I don’t want a boyfriend; I only want Edward!" Anne shouted.

I shook my head, reaching out to rub my aching temples. "Anne, but Edward needs me too. Otherwise, why would he stay in my room and not get you to sleep?"

Anne’s chest heaved violently, her eyes filled with tears of grievance. Maybe driven by anger, Anne suddenly threw a punch at me. I sidestepped, and her fist hit the door of the guest room, causing her to grimace in pain.

I took her fist in my hands and gently blew on it. "Anne, if you do this, Edward and Clara will be angry. Do you remember what they told you? I am your sister-in-law. We are family, and family should live in harmony."

My previously good mood was completely ruined, but I still suppressed my emotions and patiently persuaded her.

"I’m sorry, Diana. Can I hug you?" Anne’s emotions suddenly calmed down, and she burrowed into my arms as she used to.

I had no reason to refuse and could only let her hug me.

It was supposed to be a gentle hug, but it felt more like a painful squeeze. Anne's voice was meant to be sweet, but I caught a hint of fear in it. She whispered in my ear, "No one can come between me and Edward, not even if you become a lawyer." My heart skipped a beat, feeling the threat. Anne let go, flashed a bright smile, and walked away.
