Chapter 246 Aria is Dead

The officer's frown softened a bit, but his voice stayed firm. "Whatever beef you got, you can explain it at the station. The law will sort it out, but right now, you gotta cooperate." He stepped aside and gestured, "Please."

Aria's breathing quickened. She knew she was in deep, having teamed up with an international scam group to con the Howard Group. There was no way out.

Just as everyone started to relax, a look of determination flashed in Aria's eyes. Before anyone could react, she slammed her foot on the gas pedal. The car engine roared as she sped towards the bridge pier by the river. The tires screeched, kicking up a cloud of dust.

"Aria Howard, don't do anything crazy!" The officers shouted urgently, but it was too late.

Seeing the car about to crash into the pier, I instinctively covered my head and closed my eyes in terror.

A loud crash echoed as the car smashed into the pier. The front crumpled instantly, and the windshield shattered into a spiderweb pattern.

The impact threw me forward, my head slamming into the front seat. A sharp pain exploded, and my head buzzed, my vision blurring.

Before I could recover from the dizziness, thick, acrid smoke filled the car, making me cough violently. Each breath felt like swallowing fire, my throat burning painfully.

Panicking, I covered my mouth and nose with my hand, catching a glimpse of Aria slumped over the steering wheel, her fate uncertain.

The surrounding officers rushed towards us, trying to pry open the deformed car doors to check on us. I heard someone call for an ambulance.

The scene by the river was chaotic with sirens and shouts. Edward, who had already reached the car, looked frantic and helpless, his hands gripping the car door as he muttered, "Diana, you'll be okay!"

The officers worked harder to pry open the jammed car door. Edward pulled at the door with all his might, shouting my name, "Diana, hang in there!"

Lila and the others rushed forward to help. The sound of metal scraping against metal was sharp and grating, mixed with Edward's anxious shouts, "Just a bit more, the door's almost open!"

His hands trembled from the effort, but he didn't stop. As soon as the door was pried open a crack, thick smoke billowed out, making him cough. Edward didn't give up despite the smoke, using his hands to widen the gap.

It felt like an eternity, long enough for me to almost lose consciousness. "Diana, open your eyes, don't fall asleep."

In my daze, I felt a force pulling me out. I knew it was Edward saving me; he was the only one who could save my life.

Aria, still in the driver's seat, was trapped between the deformed car body and the seat. Her legs were crushed by twisted metal, blood gushing out and soaking her clothes. Her waist was pinned by the steering wheel, making it impossible to move.

Aria bit her lip, her face as pale as a ghost. She reached weakly towards the window, her voice barely a whisper, "Edward, help me..."

Her features twisted in pain, sweat and blood mingling and running down her once beautiful face. Her hair stuck to her forehead, adding to her disheveled appearance.

Danger loomed closer. Suddenly, a sharp-eyed officer shouted, "The car's gonna blow! Everyone, back up!"

Edward's heart skipped a beat. But after a moment's hesitation, his determination overcame his fear. Amidst the smoke and danger, he prioritized my safety, pulling me out of the car and carrying me to safety.

Edward placed me on the grass far from the car and turned back towards it. I knew he wanted to save Aria.

Just as Edward turned, a deafening explosion erupted behind him. A wave of intense heat followed. Flames shot up, illuminating the area.

I looked back to see the car engulfed in fire and smoke. Aria was gone in the explosion. Aria was dead?

In the flames, I seemed to see her gentle smile, but it was as if she had never existed, leaving only endless sorrow and wreckage, telling a tale of grief in the firelight.

The sound of ambulance sirens grew louder as they approached. Before the ambulance had fully stopped, the back doors were flung open, and several paramedics in uniform jumped out, rushing to check on me.

Due to the severity of the incident, a crowd of onlookers had gathered. Occasionally, sighs could be heard from the crowd. Everyone knew lives were at stake, and no one dared to cause trouble.

Lila and Daisy, though shaken by the sudden turn of events, kept their composure, helping the police guide the crowd, shouting, "Everyone, step back, make way for the injured!"

A doctor listened to my chest with a stethoscope, then shone a light in my eyes to check my pupils, speaking quickly, "The patient has a significant head injury, her consciousness is hazy, possible concussion risk. Get her on the stretcher, prepare oxygen and IV."

The medical team worked efficiently. They placed an oxygen mask on me, and as the pure oxygen flowed into my nose, I felt more alert.

Two nurses cut open my blood-stained sleeve, using iodine and cotton swabs to clean the abrasions on my arm. Each swipe soaked the cotton with blood, making me wince in pain.

One nurse gently reassured me, "Hang in there, it'll be over soon."

Edward stayed by my side, holding my hand, his eyes never leaving me, "Diana, don't be afraid, I'll stay with you."

The officers maintained order, dispersing the crowd to prevent further explosions.

After treating my wounds, the nurses quickly set up a stretcher, and with Edward's help, carefully lifted me onto the ambulance.

The ambulance sped away, sirens blaring. Inside, the medical team continued their work.
