Chapter 317 A Woman Who is Familiar with Edward's Medical History

The doc strolled into the hospital room, handed the test results to Edward, and said, "Mr. Howard, you're looking way better. I need to run some tests on you now."

Edward took the report from the doc with a polite nod. "Thanks."

He then followed the doc's instructions to complete the tests.

The doc was pleased with Edward's recovery. As he was about to leave, he suddenly said, "Mrs. Howard, it's a good thing you called 911 and informed our docs about the patient's condition. Otherwise, your husband might not have recovered this well."

"No, I'm not Mrs. Howard, and I didn't make the emergency call," I clarified.

The doc looked surprised but then seemed to get it. "Mr. Howard, it's lucky you had someone who knew your medical history. It would've been really tough otherwise." With that, the doc started to leave the room.

"Hold on a sec!" I called out, my heart racing. "Are you saying the person who called 911 was a woman who knew his medical history?"

The doc, not catching my concern, replied, "Yeah, she gave our emergency docs detailed info about Mr. Howard's condition and medical history, which let us give the right treatment right away."

I felt a wave of anxiety and turned to look at Edward, who was lying in the hospital bed.

Edward looked up, meeting my gaze with confusion.

"Who is she?" I asked coldly.

Edward shook his head. "I don't know. I can't think of anyone who'd know my medical history."

"Are you sure?" I pressed.

"I really don't know," Edward repeated, sighing. "I've been living a reclusive life for years, barely socializing. Who would care about a guy who makes a living selling balloons?"

"Yeah, who would care about someone who sells balloons for a living?" I muttered to myself.

The doc, still clueless about the tension, laughed and tried to lighten the mood. "Does it really matter who it was? The important thing is that Mr. Howard is getting better, right?"

"Of course it matters! That person might be the one who took Skylar!" I exclaimed, my voice rising with emotion.

Ever since Skylar went missing, every second had been torture for me. I couldn't afford to miss any clue that might lead to her.

Edward's face fell at that. He struggled to sit up, his hands shaking as he clutched the bed rail. "If she really took Skylar, I won't let her get away with it," Edward said, his eyes filled with a fierce determination I hadn't seen in a long time.

The doc, shocked by our reactions, quickly reminded us, "Please, try to stay calm. Mr. Howard is still recovering and shouldn't be too agitated. Besides, there might be some misunderstanding here."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself, and briefly explained Skylar's disappearance to the doc.The doc frowned and sighed. "You should report this to the police. They can help you find your child faster than guessing here. If you need any assistance, just press the call button." With that, he gently closed the door behind him.

After the doc left, Edward collapsed back onto the bed, breathing heavily.

I couldn't stand to see him like this. I walked over to the window and stared out at the bustling city below.

After a long silence, I finally spoke. "Edward, even I don't fully understand your current health condition. There can't be many people who do."

Edward let out a bitter laugh. "Thanks to Anne and Clara, my health is in this state."

I was shocked by his words.

Edward continued, "Back then, the Howard Group was in chaos because of Anne, and you were in the hospital giving birth. Clara pretended to care for me and tricked me into taking some medication. At first, I felt a bit better, but soon I realized those drugs were actually worsening my condition, causing seizures whenever I got too agitated."

I suddenly recalled my painful experiences with Clara's so-called treatments. I began to feel a strange sense of sympathy for Edward. We had both been victims of Anne and Clara's schemes.

"Did you ever get proper treatment?" I asked, curious.

Edward shook his head with a sad smile. "It's not that easy to cure. Treatment requires a lot of time and money, and I'm just a balloon seller. I can't afford it."

I finally understood that Edward had been suffering all these years. Despite his meager earnings, he still had to pay off Anne's debts and couldn't even afford to see a doctor.

"So, Anne and Clara are the ones who know your medical history best?" I asked, looking directly into Edward's eyes.

Edward nodded. "Besides them, only Albert knows about my condition."

"But Albert is on a business trip to Verdantwood, and Skylar, though young, is technically Albert's boss since Lucas left the Howard Group to her. Albert has no reason to kidnap Skylar," I reasoned.

Edward's face showed a hint of unease. "So, it must be Anne or Clara?"

I continued, "Clara is still in prison, and Anne recently took a large sum of money from me to settle abroad."

"Who could it be?" Edward clutched his head in pain. "If I find out who it is, I'll kill her myself."

Seeing Edward's distressed state, I scoffed. "You should focus on getting better first. I'll take care of avenging my daughter." With that, I grabbed my purse and headed for the door.

Edward called after me, "Can't you give me another chance? Just to make amends. After all, Skylar went missing while she was with me. If you find any leads, please let me know. I can't die without knowing."

Edward's voice cracked, and he started to sob.
