Chapter 391 Can Lila Help?
David shook his head, looking pretty serious.
"I'm managing okay since the Wilson family still has some funds," he said. "But Edward's company just expanded, and now they're tight on cash. If Edward had used the funds Fiona invested, we could've solved this easily, but he..."
His voice trailed off.
I knew he got Edward's stubbornness but was still frustrated by it.
"But we can't wait around. This is urgent," I said, feeling anxious. "You need to convince him. The project's survival depends on it."
David nodded slowly. "I'll try talking to him again. Let's hope it's not too late."
I thought for a moment and suggested, "What if we spread some false info to throw them off? Like, we could announce that we've secured funding."
"Will that work?" David asked, doubtful. "Could it backfire and make them more cautious, even speeding up their actions? The situation's already tense; one wrong move could ruin everything."
"It'll be fine," I said confidently. "Anne's always in a rush and not very meticulous. If she thinks we have enough funds, she'll panic. When she's flustered, she's more likely to make mistakes and reveal more weaknesses."
David nodded, agreeing with my take on Anne.
I continued, "As for Edward, his company might be smaller, but it's got its strengths. His team is great at tech development, and their core technologies could really boost the project's product quality. If he joins by contributing technology instead of funds, it would ease the financial pressure and leverage his tech strengths to cover some of the Wilson Group's potential technical gaps. It's a win-win."
David's eyes lit up as he realized the potential. "That's a solid plan. I'll reach out to Edward and get his thoughts on it."
He dialed Edward's number again.
When the call connected, David explained our idea to Edward in detail.
Edward thought for a moment before responding, "This project does have great potential. With my current funds, direct investment would be tough. But if I join by contributing technology, it could ensure the project's smooth progress."
Edward paused before continuing, "Our previous exposure of the Griffin Group and Nicholas's scandal worked well. The media coverage left Fiona and Nicholas scrambling, slowing their actions on the project."
David brightened up. "Yeah, that exposure really caught them off guard."
As an observer, I chimed in, "But the situation is still unclear. The media pressure alone isn't enough.""Exactly," Edward agreed. "We lack strong evidence. Once the media buzz dies down, they might come back stronger."
Edward was clearly on the same page as me.
David, always quick on the uptake, said, "Is there any way to gather more evidence and completely discredit them, ensuring they can't interfere with our project?"
An idea popped into my head, and I quickly suggested, "We could ask Lila for help. She runs Stellar Legal Advisors, which has a solid reputation in the industry. Over the years, her firm has handled various cases, accumulating rich experience and extensive resources. With their professional investigation team and strong legal expertise, they could uncover more dirt on the Griffin Group and Nicholas, possibly finding key evidence."
David's eyes showed a glimmer of hope, but he asked worriedly, "Is it reliable? Can she really help? Lila is Nicholas's daughter-in-law. Given that relationship, will she fully support us against Nicholas?"
I nodded confidently. "David, don't worry. Lila is highly competent and well-regarded in the legal field. Her professional integrity is unquestionable."
Edward, still on the phone, added, "But that family connection does make it uneasy."
I quickly responded, "Lila and Lucas have always despised Nicholas's underhanded tactics. They uphold justice in their careers and never use Nicholas's influence for shortcuts. Based on their character, Lila is likely to stand for what's right and help us."
David shook his head slightly, still hesitant. "Even so, this is too crucial. It affects our entire plan. I'm still unsure about Lila's capabilities."
I said confidently, "Lila is no longer a small-time lawyer. She's highly skilled now. If you explain your predicament honestly, she'll surely lend a hand. Her firm excels in handling business disputes and uncovering hidden issues within companies. Plus, she's currently the legal advisor for the Cooper Group, dealing with major corporate legal matters. Perhaps with her expertise, she could pinpoint the undeniable evidence of the Griffin Group and Nicholas's illegal activities. Once that comes to light, they would have no chance of turning the situation around."
Edward's tone softened. "If she helps, it could be a huge boost for us. However, involving a law firm might be costly. Also, we need to ensure the evidence collection is thorough and legal, avoiding any backlash."
I agreed. "I'll contact Lila first to gauge her initial thoughts. If she's on board, we can discuss the details and expenses further."
