Chapter 65 You need to take care of Anne for me.

Back in the room, I wasn't about to drink the medicine Melissa brought over, so I just dumped it all into the flowerpot.

After a shower, I flopped onto the bed and video-called Lila. I told her about what David said today. Lila went quiet for a bit before saying, "David's a good guy."

To Lila, even though David had a sharp tongue, he really cared about me. She knew that David had started Stellar Legal Advisors for me and was always trying to get me to work there. Lila also mentioned that when I was stuck at the police station, it wasn't just Nolan and Joshua who found the evidence to get me out. David had pulled all his strings to make it happen, but no one had told me that before.

We both went silent.

"Diana, you asleep?" Edward knocked on the door. I ended the call and opened the door a crack. Edward peeked in.

"What, worried I'm hiding a guy in here?" I teased.

"Would you dare hide a guy in my place?" Edward pretended to storm in.

I stepped aside, letting him in. He plopped down on my bed, propping himself up on my pillow, looking around.

I smiled. "Too plain for you?"

Edward sighed, "Diana, if you want, I can have Anne move back to her room."

"It's fine. The main bedroom gets more sunlight, and Anne's still growing. She should sleep there. I'm good here." I puffed out my chest, hinting I didn't need to grow anymore.

Edward lifted my chin, "You're jealous, aren't you?"

Looking into his handsome eyes, I closed mine. "Yeah, I'm jealous. I want you all to myself. I miss you tonight. Will you stay with me?"

"Tonight." Edward checked the time, "I have to put Anne to bed first. Since she got out of prison, she's been having nightmares and can only sleep with me nearby. Once she's asleep, I'll come back."

"Okay, I'll wait for you." I gestured for him to leave, unintentionally lifting my nightgown to show off my legs.

I lay back down, the strap of my nightgown slipping off my shoulder, exposing my chest. Edward looked at me, his Adam's apple bobbing. I knew this trick worked on him. I was taller and curvier than Anne, and I knew my body was more appealing to men, so I flaunted it.

Edward pounced on me, pinning me down. His breath, mixed with a faint tobacco scent and his unique smell, surrounded me. The room was so quiet we could only hear each other's breathing. Then, his lips crashed onto mine, demanding and passionate.

I gently pushed him, "Didn't you say you were leaving? Anne's still waiting for you."

He looked down at me, his chiseled face expressionless. Our lips were locked as if trying to merge our lives. After the kiss ended, I lay in his arms, panting.

Anne came knocking, but honestly, when Edward came in earlier, I only pretended to close the door. Everything we did was visible from the outside.

"Edward, it's so dark, I'm scared." Anne barged in like a child, pouting. She didn't care what we were doing. Edward got up from me, sitting awkwardly.

"Go to Anne! She can't wait!" I said generously, flipping my hair.

I knew deep down that no matter what, Anne would keep Edward away from me tonight. Sure enough, Edward, who promised to come back after putting Anne to bed, didn't show up all night.

The next morning at breakfast, I finally saw Edward. He was super busy, constantly checking his phone, and his furrowed brows showed he was in a bad mood. I tried to stay low-key and quietly ate my breakfast.

Edward stood up, "Diana, I have to go to Harmony City for about a week. You need to take care of Anne for me while I'm gone."

I wasn't thrilled about Edward's plan, but to earn his trust, I had to get along with Anne. So, I agreed. Edward left in a rush, not even stopping by the bedroom to tell Anne.

For some reason, Anne got sick with a fever the day after Edward left. Seeing her lying weakly in bed, all her usual energy gone, I felt a bit sorry for her.

I fussed over Anne, making her porridge and coaxing her to take her medicine, just like a kid. She lay in bed, eyes half-closed, murmuring, “Diana, I feel so awful.” Her childish whining and pouting softened my resentment a bit. For a moment, my hatred lessened.

"Anne, you'll feel better after taking the medicine." I put a piece of candy in her mouth, coaxing her gently. She nodded and snuggled further into the blanket, murmuring, "Diana, don't leave me."

It turned out that comforting could be so fulfilling, and it was no wonder Edward was drawn to this delicate woman.

Luckily, Anne only had a cold. She got better in a few days.

One day, I was organizing things in the living room when Anne bounced in like a little bird. Seeing me, her eyes lit up, and she beamed, "Diana, what are you doing?"

I glanced at her coldly and continued with my task. She didn't seem to notice my indifference and came closer, tilting her head to look at what I was holding, "Diana, can I help you?" I couldn't help but frown and said harshly, "This has nothing to do with you. Don't make a mess here."

Her smile froze, and tears welled up in her big eyes. Her voice trembled, and she nervously tugged at her clothes. I felt a surge of irritation and was about to turn away when I heard her start to sob softly. "Diana, I'm just so bored. I wanted you to keep me company. I'm sorry for bothering you." She looked like a kitten being scolded by its owner.

I took a deep breath, trying to suppress my anger, and turned to her, "Why are you crying?"

She looked up, her eyes misty with tears, "Diana, I know you don't like me, but I really want to be with you and Edward."

I snorted, "Aren't you already with Edward?"

She bit her lip as if making a big decision and suddenly grabbed my hand, "Diana, ask the driver to take me back to the Howard mansion! You don't like me, so I won't be with Edward anymore. I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have come into your life, but I can't live without Edward. I don't want you to hate me. I can give up everything as long as I can see Edward be with you every day."

I was stunned by her words. Seeing her sincere and pitiful expression, my disgust for her lessened a bit. I slowly withdrew my hand and said less coldly, "Just stay here. No one will send you back."

Edward was gone for two weeks. During that time, Anne followed me around like a little shadow, sometimes sharing stories about her favorite celebrities. Although I didn't understand much, I patiently listened to her. I found myself gradually influenced by her seemingly fragile demeanor, and I didn't dislike her as much anymore.
