Chapter 134 The Wife's Responsibility
Maybe Edward thought Anne had found a safe spot, so he loosened his grip on my arm a bit and his voice softened. "Why are you mad at Anne? She's just a kid; it's just a photo."
"Mad?" I repeated, my eyes blazing with anger, my voice sharp. "I'm your wife, and my nude photos are online. Does that mean nothing to you?"
Edward sneered, "Oh, so you remember you're my wife. Have you done any of your wifely duties?" He pressed down on me again, making it hard to breathe. "If you still know your responsibilities as a wife, you'd know what to do now..." His tone was cold, but there was a glint of desire in his eyes.
Then he kissed me. His kiss was still passionate, stirring some deep memory within me, but now that memory only filled me with disgust.
I wanted to break free, but my body wouldn't cooperate. Not willing to let him have his way, I twisted with all my strength, trying to escape his hold. I shook my head desperately to avoid his kisses, making muffled sounds of resistance.
Edward's grip tightened, pinning my hands down with unwavering strength, rendering me immobile. I bent my knees and aimed to strike at his lower body, but he anticipated my move, clamping my legs tightly and making my efforts useless. I clenched my teeth, stopping his tongue from going deeper.
After a while, Edward let go and said, "Diana, do you know how much I've missed you? Being apart from you for just one day feels like my heart is being eaten alive. I need you. Look at how beautiful you are in that photo. I love it. But look at you now, why are you so unlovable?" His words felt like the devil's whisper, making me even more devastated.
Just as I was about to argue, Edward kissed me again. Caught off guard, I was instantly kissed hard, the sudden invasion leaving my mind blank. His tongue, like a wild beast, invaded my mouth, gently entwining my tongue, sometimes sliding down to the bottom of my tongue, exploring deep into my mouth without any hindrance.
I could clearly feel every movement of his tongue. But the once familiar passionate kiss now only filled me with revulsion. The tingling sensation on my tongue made me involuntarily swallow, and I was filled with humiliation and anger.
My reaction seemed to be some kind of consent in Edward's eyes, making him kiss me even more wildly. There was no love in his fervent kiss, only dominance and possessiveness. His hands no longer restrained my shoulders but slid down to my waist, causing me to shiver, not from pleasure, but from deep repulsion.
I arched my body, trying to adjust my posture to avoid having my lower back hanging in the air. But this movement seemed to excite him even more. He suddenly lifted my hips with such force that I cried out in surprise, my voice muffled by his kiss. I felt the world spinning, and the next second, I was tightly fixed between his hips.
Unsteady, I felt my body sway, nearly losing my composure. Desperation surged through me as I struggled to break free from his grip, but my efforts were futile against his overwhelming strength. I closed my eyes tightly, trying to block everything out, but his breath and touch relentlessly invaded my senses.
I twisted my body, trying to maintain my balance, my legs unconsciously clamping around Edward's hips, seeking some support and strength to resist. Edward chuckled dryly, his laugh dripping with mockery and confidence. He said, "Diana, you need me too. Is it so hard to admit you can't live without me? Just apologize to Anne, and we can go back to the way things were."
"You're dreaming," I snapped, glaring at him. No way was I going to bow down to Anne in such a humiliating situation.
"You need to understand that as long as you're still my wife, everything you want is within reach. Think about it, without the title of Mrs. Howard, can you still live as freely as you do now?" Edward lectured, his tone slow and deliberate, his face even showing a hint of concern.
But his emotions shifted so quickly—cold and ruthless one moment, seemingly sincere the next—that it left me momentarily dazed. But only for a moment. I quickly realized this was just another one of his threats and temptations. He thought he could make me submit and continue to control me with such tactics, but he was delusional.
Without hesitation, I spat in Edward's face, my anger and defiance exploding. "I would be happier without you," I gritted out, each word clear and sharp.
I wanted to show him that I would never succumb to his threats and control. I had my dignity and my limits, and I wouldn't let him trample on them. I stared into his eyes, wanting him to see the determination in mine.
His eyes widened, his expression froze, shock clear on his face. Then, anger surged in his eyes, turning his gaze fierce. The air seemed to freeze, the room thick with tension. I had had enough of his behavior, so I met his gaze without flinching, unafraid of his anger.
He released me, his movements stiff, then pretended to be composed as he took a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the spit off his face, casually tossing it into the trash. The whole action appeared casual and smooth, but I knew Edward's heart must be boiling with rage.
"Do you really think you can support yourself with that boring lawyer job?" he sat back on the bed, looking at me coldly, his tone full of doubt and disdain.
I stood up, straightened my back, and smoothed out the wrinkles in my clothes, meeting his gaze fearlessly. "Of course, let's wait and see." I believed in my abilities and would not be shaken by his contempt.
Edward shrugged carelessly, but his expression was somewhat inscrutable. "Then let's wait and see."
Before he could finish, I strode out of the room, each step full of strength. I believed I left a dashing figure behind. As I walked out of the room, I silently vowed that no matter how many difficulties I faced in the future, I would go on strong. I would prove to Edward that I could still live a wonderful life without him.
With determined steps, I walked into the parking lot, quickly scanning the rows of cars but not seeing David. But David was the furthest thing from my mind. My heart burned with resolve, singularly focused on the case ahead. Without hesitation, I quickly reached my car, opened the door, and sat in the driver's seat, skillfully starting the car. The car shot out of the parking lot like an arrow, speeding towards Stellar Legal Advisors.
On the way, my thoughts were all about the upcoming work. Soon, I arrived at Stellar Legal Advisors. At this time, most lawyers were busy, either meeting clients or heading to court, making the office seem quiet. I walked straight through the empty office area towards Lila's office.
When I reached her office door, I was surprised to find Daisy there. She sat quietly in front of Lila's computer, a thoughtful expression on her face.
When Lila and Daisy saw me walk in, I could see a flicker of unease on their faces. I glanced at Lila, who was lounging on the couch with a sigh, and asked, "What's up with you two?"
Lila opened her mouth to speak but hesitated, looking a bit helpless. Daisy, on the other hand, quickly shoved the laptop in front of me. Her eyes were full of concern as she said, "Diana, haven't you seen this yet? Check out the latest news online." She pulled up a webpage, and there they were—more revealing photos of me, taken at the Howard Villa.
