Chapter 217 The Battle Between Father and Son of the Wilson Family

Daniel heard David's words from inside the apartment. With his back to the door, he shot back, "In your dreams."

I couldn't see his face, but the anger in his voice made the air feel a few degrees colder.

I stuck out my tongue and whispered, "I believe you."

After that, I gently pulled David's hand, gave him a determined look, and then retreated to my apartment. I knew that explaining too much right now would only make Daniel angrier.

Even though I was back in my apartment, I kept an ear out for any sounds outside. The peephole's view was limited, and I could only see the movers carrying furniture out of the neighboring apartment, trip after trip. Eventually, it got quiet next door.

Figuring they had left, I turned back to my desk, taking a moment to compose myself before preparing for my livestream.

Stellar Legal Advisors' normal business had taken a hit because of Aria, but Lila and I had managed to make money from our live-streaming career, which only made us more determined to keep going.

Just as everything was set and I was about to start the live stream, the doorbell rang.

I walked to the door, expecting to see David. After all the recent drama, I thought he would come to explain everything. But when I opened the door, I was surprised to see Daniel standing there.

My excitement dropped, and the smile froze on my face.

"Hello, Mr. Wilson," I said.

Seeing me looking behind him, Daniel raised an eyebrow and said, "David's not here."

I nodded but stayed quiet.

"Aren't you going to invite me in?" Daniel asked with a fake smile.

I had no choice but to step aside and let him in.

He plopped down on the sofa and started looking around the apartment. I pulled over a chair and sat across from him.

"Diana, tell me honestly, how have I treated you since you were a child?" Daniel asked.

I didn't know why he was asking this, but I answered truthfully, "Mr. Wilson, you've treated me very well."

I wasn't just flattering him; the Wilson family and the Cooper family had been close since childhood. When David bullied me as a kid, I often ran to the Wilsons to complain, and Daniel would always take my side and scold David.

A smile spread across my face as I remembered those times. I continued, "I remember whenever Mrs. Wilson made something delicious, she would have David bring some to me."

As Daniel and I were at a stalemate, we heard the sound of the door's keypad being pressed.

We both looked towards the door, and soon David rushed in, shouting, "Dad, don't treat Diana like this. I promise I'll leave the country. I'll go anywhere you want. Just please, don't make things difficult for Diana. She's innocent in all this."

David seemed out of breath, like he had been running.

Daniel looked David up and down and suddenly asked, "Have you two had sex?"

Both David and I blushed with embarrassment. Even though David and I had slept in the same bed, we hadn't had a sexual relationship. Being asked so bluntly made me uncomfortable.

But David didn't seem fazed. He raised his voice and said, "Yes, we have, and Diana is already pregnant with my child."I widened my eyes at David, totally confused about why he suddenly said that.

Daniel sneered, "You bastard, how dare you do such a thing. Do you believe her just because she says she's pregnant with your child? A divorced woman, who knows whose child it is. Once the child is born, we'll do a paternity test. If it's yours, the Wilson family will acknowledge it, but Diana will never be a part of this family!"

"Dad!" David cried out in anguish.

"Enough!" Daniel cut David off sharply. "This matter is not open for discussion." With that, Daniel stood up and walked towards the door.

Seeing that David had no intention of following, Daniel stopped at the door and scolded, "Aren't you coming home with me? Stop making a spectacle of yourself."

I stared blankly at David, unsure of his intentions. He returned my gaze with a reassuring look that suggested he had everything under control.

If Edward had given me such a look before, I would have felt very reassured, but David had always been unreliable, and I found it hard to believe his words.

However, I had no chance to communicate more with David. I could only watch as he mouthed "Don't worry" to me before following Daniel out the door.

My enthusiasm for live streaming evaporated. I spent the whole day clutching my phone, anxiously awaiting a message from David. It wasn't until evening that he finally texted: [My flight is at 10 AM tomorrow. I'm going to Ignis. Diana, can you come to see me off?]

Ignis was an extremely distant place for me.

I was baffled by how Daniel and David had reached this decision, but the outcome was clear: David would be going to Ignis alone to develop the market. Forget the numerous infectious diseases; the sheer, oppressive heat of Ignis would be a brutal shock for David, a rich young master accustomed to a life of comfort and privilege.

I sent David a dozen messages in a row, but none of them received a reply. However, I had made up my mind to see him off, no matter what, as a farewell to this love that was ending before it even began.

I spent a sleepless night, constantly getting up to check the time.

I both hoped for and feared the arrival of dawn. If morning never came, David wouldn't have to go to Ignis. But I also wished for dawn to come quickly so I could see him sooner.

After a long night, the faint light of dawn finally shone through the window. I couldn't wait until 10 AM, so I hurriedly got up and put on the dress David had picked out for me. This dress was the one he chose for me when I was covered in Edward's blood. Although it wasn't quite in season, I still wanted to wear the clothes he had personally chosen to see him.

The early morning road, illuminated by dawn, appeared somewhat desolate. The bare branches of the trees along the road seemed to silently tell the loneliness of winter, with a few yellowed leaves occasionally blown off by the wind and swirling to the ground.

I drove alone, feeling inevitably sad.

At the airport, travelers hurried by, some with faces of sorrow, others with faces of joy.

I searched through the crowd and finally found David.

At the same time, he also saw me in the crowd. David walked over quickly and hugged me tightly.

He said, "Silly girl, why are you wearing so little?"

I didn't know if it was because I was too cold or too excited, but my whole body was trembling. I gently leaned against David's chest and softly asked him, "Will you come back?"
