Chapter 369 Fiona's Delusion

I couldn't take it anymore and snapped, "Fiona, cut the crap! How can you accuse me like this?"

David was shaking with anger, too. He exclaimed, "Fiona, you're being ridiculous! You keep saying I have something going on with Diana, but where's your proof? You're just throwing out wild accusations. Do you think this is some kind of joke?"

Fiona ignored our denials and burst into hysterical laughter. "You think I don't know what you're up to? All these years, you haven't forgotten about David. Now that you finally have a chance, there's no way you'd let it slip by. Don't pretend. I've seen the way you look at each other! You can't fool me!" She pointed to her eyes as she spoke.

A wave of sadness washed over me; to think that this was how I appeared in her eyes.

Fiona's near-maniacal laughter drew glances from people around us. Lila quickly stepped in to diffuse the situation. "Everyone, calm down. Let's talk this out."

Edward turned away from the out-of-control Fiona and faced me, speaking softly, "I'm sorry for putting you in this position."

Hearing Edward's apology left me momentarily stunned. Was this Edward, genuinely apologizing to me? His voice was deep and sincere, each word hitting home in my heart.

I looked into his eyes and saw an apology and tenderness I had never noticed before. It made my heart ache. Edward had apologized to me many times before, but never with such sincerity. I had often fantasized about having an honest conversation with him, resolving the issues and entanglements between us. But now that the moment had come, I found myself at a loss.

I forced a smile. "It's okay. It's all in the past."

Edward's gaze was gentle yet firm. "No, it's not in the past for me. I've always had you in my heart. Diana, I know I was wrong before, but I understand now. I only love you. Please give me a chance to make it right," he said.

His words made my heart clench, and memories I had buried deep came rushing back. I shook my head slightly, trying to smile. "Edward, feelings can't be fixed by making amends. I can't let past emotions control me. I have my own life now, and I have my lovely daughter, Skylar."

I paused for a second, gathering my courage. "And I have a boyfriend," I said.

I had become accustomed to solitude over the years and had tried to move on from the past. Yet Edward's apology stirred emotions in the otherwise calm waters of my life.

Edward seemed like he wanted to say more, but I quickly interrupted him. "Don't say anything else. We both need to move forward. You deserve a better life, too."

Looking around, I saw that the other people in the clinic were still busy, seemingly unaffected by our drama. But for me, this moment felt like it was stretching on forever.

At that moment, a nurse's clear voice called out in the waiting area, "Lila!"

To me, it was like a lifeline. I said, "It's Lila's turn. I'll go with her."

Without waiting for Edward's response, I grabbed Lila and hurried towards the consultation room. I didn't dare look back, fearing that seeing the disappointment on Edward's face would weaken my resolve.Edward stood there, staring blankly in the direction Lila and I had gone.

Fiona approached Edward with a smug, mocking smile, circling around him as her tone turned sharp. "Feeling bad about being rejected? I told you, what have you been doing all these years? Now you want to make things right? Too late! Diana isn't the same person who would let you do whatever you wanted. She doesn't care about you anymore. You didn't believe me, but now you see. Did you really think she'd wait for you all this time? How naive. If you were wise, you'd leave now and stop embarrassing yourself."

She shook her head exaggeratedly, her eyes full of disdain. She continued, "Look at you now, how pathetic. Diana said she has a boyfriend. She doesn't need you. She might even be planning a future with David."

Edward clenched his fists, trying to control his anger and not lose his composure in front of Fiona. He said, "Fiona, my business is none of your concern. No matter what Diana chooses, my feelings for her won't change."

Yet Fiona ignored it completely, still fixated on Edward, her gaze filled with an almost manic determination: She exclaimed, "Edward, wake up! I'm genuinely trying to help you. If you're willing, we can build something great together. Why waste your time volunteering here, doing insignificant things?"

Edward tapped the files he was holding, his voice restrained. "Fiona, I'm volunteering here because I want to do something meaningful for others. And feelings can't be forced. I appreciate your admiration, but I can't accept your offer."

There was a hint of disappointment in Edward's eyes. The Fiona he once knew, cheerful and kind, now seemed like a stranger.

Fiona's face went pale at Edward's words. She took a step back, disbelief dancing in her eyes. "What did you say? You're turning me down?"

Seeing this, David couldn't stand it any longer. He stepped forward and grabbed Fiona, his tone full of reproach. "Fiona, enough! Edward is already upset. Stop making things worse. Come on, let's go home."

Fiona struggled, shouting at David, "Let go of me! Why are you defending him? Is it because of Diana? You always go out of your way for her. Don't think I don't know what you're up to!"

David let go and stepped back, his face full of helplessness and disappointment. "Fiona, you're being unreasonable. I used to think you were just straightforward, but now I see I was wrong. Stop imposing your delusions on others." With that, he turned and walked away angrily.

Fiona watched David leave, tears welling up in her eyes. But she quickly suppressed her emotions and turned back to Edward. She said, "Edward, see? You can't rely on anyone but me. I'm the only one who truly cares about you."

Fiona moved closer to Edward, her eyes filled with urgency and hope. She continued, "You're smart and experienced in business. If you want, we can make a great team. Once you're successful, you can have any woman you want. Why be so fixated on Diana?"
