Chapter 333 Fighting Side by Side
I was about to give Amy a piece of my mind for barging into my office without knocking when I looked up and saw Lila standing in the doorway.
She hurried in, looking a bit shaky, and quickly pulled her laptop out of her bag.
"You're here." I couldn't hide my relief, my voice tinged with a hint of joy.
Lila didn't stop moving, her eyes glued to her laptop as she spoke, "Your assistant called me, said someone's suing you. I rushed over as soon as I heard. This case involves a lot of complex documents and information. I need to organize it myself to make sure nothing gets missed that could affect the outcome."
It was then that she noticed Theo still standing by my desk. She paused, a bit embarrassed, and ran a hand through her hair, apologizing, "You're in the middle of work. Looks like I came at a bad time."
She began to pack her laptop into her bag, but I quickly intervened, speaking with sincerity, "I'm really glad you're here. This case has been my biggest challenge lately. I intended to have Amy send you the documents, but your presence here is a tremendous comfort."
Lila smiled, her eyes full of confidence and a hint of teasing.
She said, "They're not law professionals. I was worried they might miss something, so I came to handle it myself. Want to join me? Let's see if your 'former lawyer' skills are still sharp." With that, she gave me a playful wink.
"Let's get to work then," I responded, my competitive spirit ignited.
We dived into the work, and Theo wisely took his leave from the office.
As I watched Lila, fully engrossed in her task, a wave of guilt washed over me. I felt the urge to speak up and apologize to her.
Lila seemed to sense my thoughts. Without looking up, she raised a hand to stop me. "Save it for later. Right now, we need to focus on organizing these documents and preparing for this case."
Then I turned my attention back to the work. I meticulously reviewed past emails with buyers, while Lila focused on organizing call records.
Our seamless teamwork felt like a throwback to our younger days.
Suddenly, I found a vaguely worded email about delivery times and couldn't help but call out, "Lila, check out this email. There's something off here."
Lila immediately put down her documents and came over to look at my screen.
She frowned, studying it for a moment, then said, "This is definitely suspicious. The wording is unclear and could easily be misunderstood. This might be the key evidence we need to counter their claims."
I nodded in agreement and marked the email, saying, "Alright, cross-reference this with the call records to see if there's anything that supports it."
Lila then returned to her seat and continued organizing the call records. We carefully marked every crucial piece of information. After a while, Lila's voice rose with excitement. "Diana, check out this call record. They mentioned the conditions for agreeing to a delayed delivery, which matches the email you found. This shows there was communication about the potential delay, proving it wasn't an unannounced delay."
I put on headphones to listen to the call record, feeling a surge of excitement.
I said, "You're right. This is critical, decisive evidence."
In a brief moment of respite, I glanced up at Lila, who was deeply focused on her work.
Lila seemed to sense my gaze and looked up, giving me a gentle smile, asking softly, "What's on your mind?"
I replied, "I feel so guilty, Lila. You just got back from your honeymoon, and now you're stuck dealing with this tough case with me."
Lila met my eyes, speaking earnestly, "Diana, don't say that. The Cooper Group is both a solid support and a heavy responsibility for you. Since I agreed to handle the legal work for the Cooper Group, it's my duty to step up in critical moments."
"If it weren't for this case, you'd probably be having a candlelit dinner with Lucas right now," I joked, glancing at the darkening sky outside.
Lila shook her head.
"Since getting married, I've come to understand the weight of responsibility even more. So, I totally get your situation. We'll get through this together." With that, she extended her hand for a high-five.
As our hands met, I felt a powerful energy flow from Lila's fingertips into me.
Our work progressed seamlessly, our pace picking up as we sorted through the documents. Each file and record was carefully examined and organized, ensuring we were well-prepared for the upcoming case.
The office was filled only with the continuous sound of typing and the soft rustle of paper.
As we neared the end of our task, Lila and I exchanged smiles.
Lila took off her headphones and sighed, filled with nostalgia.
She remarked, "Working side by side like this reminds me of when we first took over Stellar Legal Advisors. Case after case, we were always so busy. But we managed to grow Stellar Legal Advisors into what it is today."
Her words brought back memories, and I couldn't help but smile.
I responded, "Yeah, we used to pull all-nighters for cases, but we always supported each other, step by step, to get where we are now."
Lila's eyes sparkled with determination as she said confidently, "We'll get through this too!"
She looked at the darkening sky outside, stood up, stretched, and suggested, "It's getting late. How about a candlelit dinner?"
I picked up my car keys from the desk and waved them at Lila, saying with a hint of resignation, "You should have that candlelit dinner with Lucas. I need to get home to Skylar. My time is split between work and Skylar now."
