Chapter 183 Mr. Howard Got Drunk
The whole mess left me drained, and I couldn't tell when these days would finally be over. I talked to Lila about getting out of the hospital ASAP so I could recover at home.
Lila, hating to see me suffer because of the Howard family, was all for it. After a thorough check-up, the doctor gave me the green light to leave.
When I got back to my tiny, long-forgotten apartment, it felt both familiar and weird. At some point, Lila had quietly taken down the nursery decorations, and the place was back to its old self, like the baby had never been a part of it.
While I was recovering at home, I threw myself into my live-streaming gig. I figured after all the drama, my viewer count would drop. But to my surprise, my fan base actually grew. Reading through the comments and DMs, I realized most people were there to mock me. But I didn't get mad; as long as they were in my stream, I could share my expertise with them.
They might not get me yet, but I was sure they'd come around eventually. It only took a few months to go from a rich socialite to a popular online streamer. Despite the change, I didn't mind at all and even enjoyed this new chapter.
As I got better, I found myself with more energy to patiently answer the endless questions from viewers. Time went by, and the once loud insults in the chat started to fade, replaced by voices of recognition and admiration. With the streams getting more successful, more victims reached out for help. But I couldn't help everyone on my own.
After some careful planning with Lila, we decided to direct those seeking help in my stream to Stellar Legal Advisors. Lila's team of pro lawyers could then take on more high-profile cases and solve complex issues for their clients. This freed up more of my time to help those in need.
To keep Edward from causing trouble, Lila and I set up multiple accounts, each with its own audience. Before long, our venture was booming.
Meanwhile, I noticed some streams started copying mine. They looked similar on the surface but were just shallow imitations, lacking real substance. As time went on, I quickly became the top-ranked legal streamer online.
Standing at the top, I reflected on the unique freedom and joy of the single life. Unfortunately, Edward and I hadn't finalized our divorce yet, and I was still stuck with the title of Mrs. Howard.
One night, after wrapping up an especially killer livestream, I felt totally wiped out, both physically and mentally. I was about to head to the bathroom, hoping a hot bath would wash away my fatigue.
Just then, my phone rang, shattering the quiet of the night. I hoped it was someone with a legal question, and despite being exhausted, I answered out of habit.
"Hello, is this Mrs. Howard?" an elderly woman's voice gently asked.
"Yeah, this is her. Who's calling?" I glanced at the unfamiliar number on the screen, feeling puzzled.
"Mrs. Howard, this is Scarlet Kiss. Mr. Howard is here, completely drunk, and he keeps calling for you. We had no choice but to find your number on his phone. Please don't blame us," the woman said, sounding like she was trying to cover her own back.
I figured she was probably the madam at Scarlet Kiss. The nightclub had a smart setup, with young guys handling the grunt work and an older woman managing the girls, like a brothel.
The thought of Edward possibly hiring prostitutes made me sick, and I replied coldly, "Edward and I are getting a divorce. His problems are his own. Don't bother me."
The madam's tone turned a bit desperate. "Mrs. Howard, we don't mean to trouble you. But Mr. Howard is very drunk and insists on finding you. To make matters worse, he's injured several of our staff. As his wife, you should come and handle this."
The Edward I knew was always so polished and composed. How could he turn into a violent mess and hurt people, especially prostitutes, when drunk? This was totally against the image he always showed.
But the situation had blown up, and as the madam said, someone had to clean up the mess. I took a deep breath, trying to swallow all my annoyance and reluctance, and forced out a few words through gritted teeth. "Fine, I'll be there."
By the time I got to Scarlet Kiss, it was already early morning. The madam said she'd been waiting at the door for me, like I was some VIP. When she saw me, she smiled warmly and said, "You're finally here. Please go in and see Mr. Howard."
I got out of the car and followed the madam into Scarlet Kiss. Instantly, memories came rushing back, flooding my mind.
This was my second time here. The last time, I had come to ask David for a favor, but he had humiliated me without mercy. Back then, Edward had swooped in like a knight in shining armor, saving me from the embarrassing situation. But now, my marriage with Edward was in ruins, on the verge of collapse, and I had to deal with his sex scandal. The irony was almost too much to bear.
