Chapter 179 Uninvited Guest

I gave a slight nod and couldn't help but say with a hint of sarcasm, "I bet their faces were priceless when they found out I lost my baby."

Lila sighed, her eyes filled with pity. "Hayden looks even more frail. He wanted to hold a grandchild before he passed, but now that dream is shattered."

Curiosity flickered in my eyes, and I asked softly, "What about Clara? How did she take it?" I expected Hayden to be sad, but I was more curious about Clara's reaction.

Lila crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, speaking slowly, "When Hayden found out you had a miscarriage, he was furious. Clara was so scared she didn't dare say a word."

I could instantly picture Clara's timid demeanor in front of Hayden. Although she was usually strong-willed, she knew how to be humble and submissive in front of the true head of the Howard family. After all, both of Edward's children were lost because of Anne, and Clara should be grateful that Hayden didn't blame her.

After the doctor carefully examined me, he said gently, "Ms. Cooper, you've just had a miscarriage, and your body is extremely weak. You'll need to stay in the hospital for about a week. From the test results, your health was already somewhat poor, so we've arranged some nutritional supplements for you. This will greatly help your recovery. You're still young, and with proper care, getting pregnant again shouldn't be difficult."

My heart skipped a beat. Could I still have children in the future?

With a mix of urgency and hope, I couldn't help but ask, "Are you saying this miscarriage won't affect my future fertility?"

Even though the doctor was wearing a mask, I could see a hint of a smile in his eyes. "Rest assured, with our medical expertise, your body won't suffer any lasting effects."

Hearing this, I felt a huge sense of relief and let out a long breath, my mood lightening considerably. Even though I had decided to divorce Edward and had no intention of getting involved with another man, deep down, I still harbored a strong desire to have a child.

The doctor's words brought a glimmer of hope to my otherwise bleak world, igniting a torrent of complex emotions within me. A child had long been my heart's desire. Even though my marriage with Edward was full of cracks, this remaining hope of having a child was something I deeply cherished.

Lila, who had been silently listening, immediately had a strong gleam in her eyes upon hearing the doctor's positive response. She quickly strode to my bedside, grabbed my hand excitedly, and her hands trembled slightly from the force. She looked at me intently, her face beaming with undisguised happiness for me.

Her eyes were slightly red, and her words were somewhat incoherent due to her excitement. "Diana, this is wonderful! I was so worried that this accident would cause you irreversible harm, but now there's still hope!"

As she said this, Lila gently shook my hand, seemingly trying to convey her inner joy to me. Her sincere and enthusiastic demeanor made me feel happy as well.

After the doctor left, my mood gradually sank again.

Lila, keenly aware of my change, quickly asked with concern, "Diana, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

I shook my head lightly, my expression serious. "If the Howard family finds out that my body hasn't suffered much damage, they'll definitely pressure me to have another child with Edward. After all, Aria can no longer meet their expectations."

Lila's face darkened, and she frowned slightly, looking a bit helpless. "That's a tricky situation. What are we going to do?"

I sighed softly, determination in my eyes. "I need to divorce Edward as soon as possible. Only by divorcing him can they stop pressuring me to have children."

Since my hospitalization due to the miscarriage, Lila had been by my side every day, neglecting her work at Stellar Legal Advisors. Worried, I said softly, "Lila, you should go back to Stellar Legal Advisors. It's been so many days; is everything really okay?"

Lila tilted her head slightly, a hint of nonchalance on her face, and shook her head slowly. Looking at me with sincere and focused eyes, she said, "Right now, the most important thing for me is to help you recover. There are other lawyers at Stellar Legal Advisors who can handle the daily affairs."

Still uneasy, I frowned and asked somewhat agitatedly, "Is Edward causing trouble for Stellar Legal Advisors again?"

Lila chuckled softly, her eyes forming crescent shapes. Patiently, she explained, "No. Stellar Legal Advisors has been doing well recently. We've taken on several personal defense cases and signed legal advisory agreements with a few companies and online platforms."

She paused slightly, a hint of satisfaction in her eyes, and continued, "They're all small companies, but I'm already very satisfied with how things are now."

Hearing her words, I felt a sense of relief. I thought to myself, given that I had a miscarriage because of Edward, he probably wouldn't cause me trouble at this time.

Under Lila's meticulous care, my body recovered quickly. My complexion improved, and I gradually regained my color, feeling more energetic and in better spirits.

During my recovery, Lila was constantly busy, not only taking care of my daily needs but also preparing the divorce papers for me. Everything was ready, and just as we were about to submit the papers to the court, the door to my hospital room slowly opened, and an unexpected visitor arrived.

Hayden slowly drove his electric wheelchair into the room. When I looked up, I was slightly taken aback. He looked haggard, with more and deeper wrinkles than I remembered, like a network of ravines across his face.

His hair was sparse and white, lifelessly scattered on his scalp. His body had thinned noticeably, and his once well-fitting clothes now hung loosely on him, as if a gust of wind could blow him over. His eyes revealed an indescribable fatigue and loneliness, exuding an aura of desolation.

I was genuinely surprised and instinctively asked, "Mr. Howard, what brings you here?"

Hayden didn't answer immediately. He just sat quietly in his wheelchair, his gaze slowly sweeping around the room before finally resting on my face. His lips trembled slightly as if struggling to find the right words. After a moment, he slowly said, "Diana, I know my visit might surprise you, but there are some things I feel I must discuss with you in person."

His voice was low and hoarse, weighted with years and tinged with a barely perceptible guilt. I looked at him, my feelings a swirl of emotions, uncertain about the reason for his visit.
