Chapter 241 For the Sake of Interests

Daisy was fuming. She yanked David by the collar and snapped, "David, your wedding's tomorrow, and look at you! What the hell is going on?"

David's head shot up at her outburst. When his eyes met Daisy's fiery gaze, a flicker of panic crossed his face. Maybe it was the booze numbing his senses, but he blurted out, "This wedding is suffocating me! From the start, I've been nothing but a pawn in a family power struggle. My dad and Edward, they're using me for their own gain."

With that, David covered his face with his hands and started sobbing quietly.

Hearing Edward's name was like a bolt from the blue. I never imagined that behind David's arranged marriage lay Edward's scheming.

"What is this all about?" Daisy's grip on David's collar tightened. "You need to explain everything right now, or we're not done here!" She shook her fist threateningly.

Lila quickly stepped in, grabbing Daisy's arm. "Calm down, let's hear him out first."

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my voice. "David, what's really going on here?"

David hung his head in silence for a long moment before speaking slowly. "My dad never wanted me to be with you. My marriage is a way for him to gain more power. He's arranged for me to marry Fiona Griffin to secure their business orders. Edward knows that once I'm married, he'll have a chance to win you back and use my dad's alliance with the Griffins to his advantage."

I couldn't believe Edward's malicious intentions. My heart felt like it was being pierced by a thousand needles, the pain spreading through my entire body.

David had once promised me that he would never let me suffer heartbreak again. I had dreamed of a future with him, but now I realized it was all a carefully orchestrated farce, with Edward pulling the strings.

I let out a bitter laugh. "So, I'm just the fool being played with, right?"

David couldn't meet my eyes. "Diana, I truly love you, but right now, I'm trapped."

"Enough! You selfish jerk! You're just doing this for your family's benefit." Daisy's rage boiled over, and she slapped David hard across the face.

Lila stepped in, pulling Daisy back. "Don't make things worse right now."

I knew that to fight back, I needed to stay calm and not let my emotions take over. To break free from Edward, I had to become stronger.

After David left, looking utterly defeated, I had no desire to stay at the party. I just wanted to be alone, so I decided to leave.

As I reached the door, a burly guy suddenly blocked my way. His tone was firm but respectful. "Ms. Cooper, our employer has a gift for you. Please come with me."

I looked him up and down, puzzled. "Who is your employer?"

Before he could answer, a light, mocking laugh reached my ears. "Ms. Cooper, you're quite cautious, aren't you?"

I turned to see Fiona, dressed in an elegant gown, her makeup flawless, her eyes unreadable.

"It's you?" I forced a smile. "Right, tomorrow's your wedding. Congratulations."

I tried to leave, but Fiona stepped in front of me, a faint smile on her lips. "Why the rush? I'm glad you'll be at my wedding tomorrow. I promised you a surprise, remember? Aren't you curious?"

"What are you up to?" I asked, taking a step back, wary.

Fiona laughed openly at my reaction. "Relax, I like your spirit. I won't harm you. Come, let's see the wedding dress David picked out."

"I don't want to. Find someone else," I refused without hesitation.

"Why so tense?" Fiona raised an eyebrow, glancing around casually. "Look, there are cameras everywhere. If anything happens to you, people will know you were with me. What are you afraid of?"

I looked around and saw the cameras, their red lights blinking, confirming her words. After a moment's hesitation, I reluctantly followed her upstairs.

In the dressing room on the second floor, a stunning wedding dress adorned with crystals hung on a rack, sparkling under the lights. As I stared at the dress, memories of my time with David flooded back.

I had once dreamed of wearing a beautiful wedding dress, walking down the aisle towards David, surrounded by friends and family, making a lifelong promise before a priest. But now, reality felt like a harsh slap in the face. When I stood before the dress David had chosen, the bitterness in my heart grew stronger.

Fiona seemed to sense my thoughts, her voice laced with subtle mockery. "What, reminiscing about happy times?"

I snapped out of my reverie, my voice cold. "I've seen it. I'm leaving."

"Do you like it? Try it on," Fiona said, her eyes gleaming. She clapped her hands, and two maids took the dress from the rack and approached me.

I instinctively stepped back, my eyes fixed on Fiona. "What are you trying to do?"

Fiona tilted her head, a faint smile playing on her lips. "This dress is for you. Tomorrow, you can wear it and marry David in style. Aren't you happy?"
