Chapter 121 Daisy, Well Done
The little tavern was dimly lit, giving off a cozy and lively vibe. I held Lila's hand, a grin spreading across my face. "It's all good. If it weren't for you, who knows how bad things would be for me right now. But look at me now! I got the settlement money from Alice's divorce and the cash from selling the Cooper Group. I'm rolling in it! You wouldn't believe how proud I am."
I paused for a moment before continuing, "But I need to make more. Stellar Legal Advisors is yours, and I'm ready to work for you. Give me the big cases; I want to rake in the dough..." I said, waving my arms like I could already see the money pouring in.
"You're such a money lover!" Lila said, sharing a look with Daisy before they both burst out laughing. Their laughter filled the small tavern.
I laughed with them, but inside, I felt a wave of sadness. I leaned on the table, tears starting to fall. "What's the point of all this money? My parents are gone, the Cooper Group has a new owner, and it's got nothing to do with me anymore. And Edward... he's having a kid with another woman," I said, my shoulders shaking as the pain and frustration bubbled up.
"What? Edward's having a kid with someone else? Are you divorced?" Lila and Daisy looked shocked, their eyes wide.
I shook my head, feeling helpless. "No, we're not divorced, but the Howard family found a woman named Aria to have a kid with Edward to keep the family line going." I bit my lip, trying to hold back the pain.
"What about you?" Lila asked, her eyes full of concern.
I wiped my tears, feeling a wave of despair. "I'm still Mrs. Howard in name, just a figurehead to keep up appearances. But I don't have my own child, and now I've lost the Cooper Group too. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up." I lowered my head, my hands hanging limply.
Lila's face turned red with anger, and she almost slammed her hand on the table.
Daisy, still calm, gently smoothed my messy hair and said softly, "Diana, what are you afraid of? With us by your side, we can get you anything, even the stars. You said Aria came back from Veridian?" I nodded, confused about where she was going with this.
"Then this is easy," she smiled confidently. "Did you forget where I came back from?" I was taken aback—Daisy had also come back from Veridian.
"Leave it to me. I'll handle her for you."
I remembered what Anne had said and urgently asked Daisy, "How are you going to deal with her?"
Daisy shook her head, calm as ever. "Diana, the one who acts first usually loses. I want them to make the first move. Whether it's Anne or Aria, anyone who messes with you will face my wrath." Daisy's stern demeanor made this complicated situation seem as simple as picking between apples and oranges.
I sighed in relief, "Daisy, hearing you say that, I feel better." I waved my hand drunkenly, and the waiter brought us another bottle of wine.
Daisy quickly stopped me, "Are you still drinking? I just got off an international flight today. If I drink more, I'll die. Then who will avenge you?"
I burst out laughing, "Daisy, I can't let you die just like that. You're my hero." I wobbled as I stood up, and Lila quickly came to support me. She whispered something to Daisy that I didn't catch. Daisy nodded and helped me towards the door.
After drinking so much, driving was a no-go. We stood by the roadside, waiting for a cab. The tavern was near a school where most of the customers were students, so cabs were scarce. Instead, a few bikers rolled up.
"Where you headed? Need a ride?" The leader, a skinny guy, stopped his bike right in front of us, blocking our way. The two guys behind him were more muscular, covered in tattoos that looked like some kind of mysterious totem, making them pretty intimidating.
I sighed and muttered, "Why do I keep running into people blocking my way lately?"
Daisy stepped forward, shielding Lila and me. "Lila, take care of Diana. I'll handle these clowns." She got into a fighting stance.
The leader reached out to touch her face and said, "Didn't expect you to be so feisty. I like that..."
Before he could finish, Daisy kicked him in the groin, sending him crashing to the ground. The two guys behind him, seeing their buddy go down, jumped off their bikes and rushed forward. My drunkenness faded a bit, and I felt the urge to jump in too.
Lila grabbed me and shouted, "Daisy, be careful!" Just as she finished speaking, there were two dull thuds, and the two muscular guys were on the ground.
I clapped my hands and cheered for Daisy, "Way to go!"
Daisy stretched and said, "Mess with the bull, you get the horns!"
The three guys lay on the ground, groaning in pain. The leader, his voice trembling, said to his buddies, "What are you waiting for? Get her, and the other two women are yours."
Before he could finish, Daisy stomped on him, making him scream in agony. The two guys behind him were terrified, not daring to move.
By now, a crowd had gathered, mostly young students full of a sense of justice. But seeing Daisy take on three guys, no one dared to step forward. Then, there was a round of applause.
I looked towards the sound and saw David pushing through the crowd, clapping as he walked up to Daisy, admiration on his face. He said, "Daisy, well done. I didn't expect you to get even better over the years."
Seeing it was David, Daisy snorted coldly, frowning slightly, full of disdain. She released her foot from the thug and sternly said to the three on the ground, "Get lost!"
The three scrambled to their feet and fled on their bikes. The crowd gradually dispersed, leaving just a few of us standing there in an awkward silence.
David was the first to speak, looking at Daisy with a mix of emotions in his eyes. "You're back?"
Daisy raised her chin slightly, responding briefly, "Yeah."
David asked again, "When?"
Daisy still responded briefly, "Today." Her expression remained impassive, as if she had no intention of saying another word to David.
"What are you planning to do next?" David asked her, but his eyes were fixed on me, showing concern and anticipation.
"Going home. Can't you see Diana is drunk?" Daisy responded unceremoniously, frowning slightly, her eyes full of impatience.
David nodded, took out his phone, and made a call. Soon, his driver pulled up in front of the tavern. David said to Daisy and Lila, "You two get in the car. I'll have the driver take you home. Leave Diana to me." His tone was firm and unquestionable.
"Who do you think you are?" Daisy glared, not backing down.
My steps were unsteady, and I relied on Lila to support me. She gently leaned me against David, then grabbed Daisy and headed for the car. "We'll be off now. Please take care of Diana," Lila said with a sly smile.
In a daze, I saw Daisy trying to get out of the car, but Lila pushed her back into the seat and slammed the door shut. Daisy looked unwilling.
The car rolled by slowly, and I tried to stand up straight, but I ended up leaning against David. He frowned, grabbing the back of my neck, his voice a mix of anger and a hint of warmth. "You really don't know when to stop, do you? Drinking so much. Women are such a hassle." His eyes showed a mix of annoyance and a touch of concern.
"Mind your own business," I snapped, struggling to break free from David's grip, kicking my feet. David easily lifted me and shoved me into the car. The car smelled like David's cologne, a faint, comforting scent. He focused on driving, his profile looking stern under the streetlights. Meanwhile, I passed out in the back seat.
When I woke up, I found myself in a completely unfamiliar bedroom. The room was super minimalist, with just a bed, a nightstand, a coffee table under the window, and a bean bag chair.
