Chapter 140 Uninvited Guest

Driving back to the apartment, I felt completely wiped out. My mind was a mess, and I had this weird feeling like someone was watching me. When I finally got to the door and opened it, there was Edward, looking both familiar and strange.

He was lounging on the couch, and the sight of him made me shiver, cold sweat instantly soaking my back. I snapped to attention, my exhaustion forgotten. He looked just the same, dressed in a sharp black suit that screamed high-end luxury but still had that cold vibe, just like him. His white shirt collar was a bit undone, and his tie hung loose around his neck. His hair was a little messy, with a few strands falling onto his forehead, but it didn't make him any less intimidating. As I walked in, he greeted me with a faint, unreadable smile.

"Why are you here?" I tried to keep my voice steady, but the slight tremor gave me away.

"I'm your husband. Why can't I be here?" Edward's deep, magnetic voice filled the room.

"What do you want?" I leaned against the wall by the door, pressing myself against it like it was the only thing keeping me upright. I felt like my feet were glued to the floor, unable to move any closer. I kept my eyes on him, not daring to look away. My hands clenched into fists, nails digging into my palms, but I didn't care. I was too focused on waiting for his answer.

"What do I want? I'm here to see you. Isn't that what I'm supposed to do?" Edward retorted, like he'd just heard the funniest joke. His eyebrows raised slightly, and his eyes were full of disdain. He stared at me, making me squirm. I instinctively looked away but forced myself to meet his gaze again, determined not to back down.

I sighed, feeling both tired and resolute. "We're getting a divorce."

Edward nodded. "Yes, we are, but we haven't yet."

Seeing that I wouldn't come in, Edward quickly walked over, grabbed my arm, and pulled me to the couch.

His presence overwhelmed me, and then his lips were on mine, forceful and demanding. His lips were hot, pressing tightly against mine like he wanted to devour me. His hands gripped my shoulders so tightly it felt like his nails were digging into my flesh.

I had no chance to break free. His breath was fresh, but it made me feel suffocated. I tried to turn my head away, but he held me even tighter, giving me no escape. I closed my lips tightly, trying to resist, pushing against his chest, but he was like an immovable mountain. Maybe my resistance excited him because his kiss grew more intense, like he was trying to break through all my defenses and claim me. It felt like a nightmare, with him as the most terrifying figure in it. I closed my eyes, just waiting for it to end.

After he had kissed me enough, he leaned over and said, "As long as we're not divorced, you're my wife, and we won't get divorced." His voice was full of confidence, almost arrogant.

I opened my eyes and said, "If you don't agree to a divorce, I'll have to sue you."

Edward stood up, crossing his arms over his chest. "Really? I'm so scared."

Then he laughed. "I forgot you're a lawyer. Tough job, huh? By the way, how's work going lately?"

Looking at his smug face, I felt even more irritated. "Whether my work is going well or not is none of your business, Mr. Howard," I shot back coldly.

Edward nodded, a smirk playing on his lips. "A new generation of independent women? Let's see how long you can keep it up." His voice was icy, making me feel even more uncomfortable.

I stood up from the couch and walked up to him. "This is my home; please leave," I said firmly.

To my surprise, Edward didn't argue. He simply turned around, walked to the door, and left. Just as he was about to close the door, he turned back and said, "Diana, why won't you submit to me like you used to? If you beg me, I'll give you everything you want, and we won't have to get divorced."

His eyes had lost some of the earlier mockery and showed a hint of sincerity. But I couldn't listen to any of it. I grabbed the vase on the coffee table and hurled it towards the door. Edward quickly closed the door, and the vase shattered against it with a loud crash.

I sank to the carpet, hugging my knees, and broke down in tears. Was Edward here today to ask for reconciliation? But why did I feel so humiliated? He always had this arrogant attitude, treating me like a puppet.

He clearly didn't love me, yet he wouldn't let me go. I felt physically and mentally drained, tears falling like a broken string of pearls. I didn't know how long I cried, but eventually, I fell asleep from sheer exhaustion.

When I woke up, a sudden phone ring shattered the silence in the dark. The room was pitch black, mirroring my confused and chaotic state of mind. I fumbled in the dark to pull my phone from my pocket. The screen lit up, revealing a call from Anne.

As soon as I answered, her anxious voice came through, "Diana, is Edward with you? Give Edward back to me." Her tone was so matter-of-fact, as if I were the villain who had taken away her beloved.

I instantly became more alert, a surge of anger rising in my heart. "I don't know what you're talking about," I replied coldly.

"Stop pretending. I heard Edward talking to Albert this afternoon. He said he was going to your place. Let him come back; I can't sleep without him." Anne's commanding tone felt like she was giving me an order, completely disregarding my feelings.

I couldn't help but find it a bit ridiculous. She sounded so childish and laughable, but I still responded coldly, "He was here this afternoon, but he left a long time ago. If you want to find him, call him yourself and stop bothering me."

"I did, but he didn't answer." Anne's voice carried a hint of despair. "Is he really not with you?"

I didn't want to waste any more words on her. Feeling extremely annoyed, I coldly hung up the phone. This call had completely dispelled my sleepiness, but a strange sense of satisfaction welled up in my heart. I didn't expect there would be a day when Anne would be neglected by Edward. This could be considered her retribution.

But at the same time, a sense of doubt lingered in my mind. If Edward didn't go back to the Howard Villa, where would he go? Could he be with Aria? Impossible. I quickly dismissed the thought.

According to Hayden, Edward was forced to agree to do IVF with Aria, so they probably had no feelings for each other. Besides, from Edward's previous attitude towards Aria, he was unlikely to seek her out.

But no matter what, I absolutely didn't believe that he would spend the night with another woman. In my heart, even though there were countless women in the world, the only one he truly cared about should be Anne. However, just thinking of her made me angry all over again.
