Chapter 223 Love is Stronger Than Any Distance

After Clara and Anne wheeled Hayden away, Edward grabbed Aria's hand and led her off the stage.

The guests, who had been watching from below, immediately swarmed around them, chatting away.

Damn, those memories hit me again, reminding me of when Edward used to hold my hand and guide me through the crowd. But things had changed. These guests probably didn't even remember me, the one who used to be by Edward's side.

Being here felt pointless, so I decided to leave. Just as I stepped out of the banquet hall, Anne called out to me. "Diana!"

She had a twinkle in her eye. "Did you see Dad's reaction?"

She shrugged and continued, "Even if Edward announces he's marrying that bitch, Dad won't agree. So let's team up."

She tilted her head slightly, her smile growing even brighter, her eyes full of expectation, like she was sure I'd join forces with her against Edward and that so-called bitch.

But for some reason, her smile started to look twisted to me. Seeing her reminded me of Lanny's creepy gaze that night at the pub. I couldn't help but cut Anne off. "I have things to do, so I won't play along. Go find someone else." With that, I walked away quickly.

I wasn't just brushing Anne off; I really had work to do. The reality show filming was going well, but my dive into TV had made my schedule crazy. I could barely keep up. Lila was in the same boat, and I couldn't even remember the last time we met.

Time flew by in a blur of busyness.

During this time, I stayed in touch with David, but I never mentioned Lanny's visit or his inappropriate behavior. I decided to bury that incident deep inside, pretending it never happened.

Before I knew it, the end of the year was coming up. During a video call with David, he brought some good news.

David's lips curled into a slight smile, his eyes showing a mix of tiredness and joy. He said, "Diana, I'm planning to come back to the States soon."

My eyes lit up instantly, and I couldn't hide my excitement.

"Really? You're coming back?" I asked.

David sighed softly, giving a wry smile. "I'm just coming back for a business trip, and it's not to Wind City."

Hearing this, I felt a bit disappointed but also curious. I asked, "Where are you going?"

David rubbed his temples, looking a bit serious. He replied, "Our company has a project in Verdantwood that's hit a snag."

He paused before continuing. "They need someone to handle it, so I volunteered. Let's meet up then."

Hearing this, I felt my heart race, and my voice rose a few notches. "Really? We can meet?"

David looked at me seriously and nodded.

"But we'll only have half a day," he said, a flicker of disappointment in his eyes.

I quickly said, "That's enough. Even if it's just an hour, I want to see you."

"Alright then," David agreed. "Consider it our early Christmas Eve celebration."

Just before hanging up, I told David, "Oh, I just remembered something. The apartment next to mine was bought by a woman. She's really nice, and we sometimes run into each other in the elevator."

I expected David to be as happy about this as I was. Unexpectedly, his relaxed expression turned serious, his eyes cold and distant. He looked at me through the camera and said slowly, "Diana, don't tell her too much about us."

Confused, I asked, "Why?"

After a moment of silence, David said, "I have a feeling the person who bought the apartment from my dad is there to keep an eye on you."

My heart sank, and I couldn't help but recall my encounters with the woman next door. She did seem to run into me quite often and always greeted me warmly.

"Okay, I understand," I said, but I didn't take it too seriously.

Life kept us busy, but I knew Lila, David, and I were still close.

Finally, the day to meet David was near. I wanted to pick him up at the airport, but since the Wilson Group had arranged a team to do that, I had to hold back my eagerness.

During our last video call before the trip, we agreed that David would arrive half a day before me. After finishing his work, he would meet me at the station. His eyes were full of love and longing, his voice softer than usual. "Baby, I miss you so much." His words made my cheeks flush, and I couldn't stop smiling.

"Make sure you have a sign to hold up at the station," I said playfully.

David sat up straight and nodded seriously. "Of course, I'll be there, making sure this reunion is special."

I was completely immersed in this sweet interaction. Even though we were miles apart, our love felt like fine wine, growing richer with time, filling me with anticipation and joy for our reunion.

On the day of my departure, I woke up at dawn, methodically packed my things, and hurried to the station.

The train doors were about to close. Ticket in hand, I felt a buzz. [Don't go see him!!!!] flashed across the screen.

I froze, filled with suspicion. Who could this be? I hadn't told anyone about my plans to meet David, not even Lila. How did this person know my secret?

Before I could think further, the train started moving. Soon, my doubts were buried under the excitement and joy of seeing David. I just wanted the train to speed up and take me to him.

Wind City and Verdantwood weren't far apart. I snapped a few pictures of the scenery outside the window and posted a feed: [Love is stronger than any distance.]

It felt like our love couldn't be openly shared, so I used this short phrase to subtly express my feelings for David and my eagerness to see him.
