Chapter 361 Sunshine

I glanced over at David, his face lit up with joy, but my expression turned serious. "David, there's something else. Before you meet Nicholas, you really need to see Lila."

David's smile disappeared, and surprise washed over his face like he'd been hit with a bucket of cold water. He looked down, shuffling his feet nervously.

After a long pause, he finally spoke, his voice heavy with bitterness. "Diana, I've wanted to see her for so long, but I've been too scared. Lila's been our close friend for years. We went through the startup phase of Stellar Legal Advisors together, sharing both the good and the bad. But now, every time I think about what Lanny did to her, I feel ashamed. The Wilson family caused her so much pain. How can I possibly face her?"

He closed his eyes briefly and let out a long sigh, like he was trying to expel the guilt from deep within.

Seeing this, I tried to console him, "Lila suffered greatly because of Lanny, and the Jackson family holds a deep grudge because of it. But Lila is different. When I visited her last time, she specifically asked about you. She was worried about you. If you go to her with genuine remorse, she'll see your sincerity. She's kind-hearted and might even speak well of you to Nicholas, making him less angry with you."

David nodded slightly, biting his lip. "I've been so busy running around trying to fix the Wilson family's mess, thinking I could escape and make amends that way. But now that I think about it, it's just self-deception. Lila suffered because of us, and as Lanny's brother, I have an undeniable responsibility to make things right."

He lifted his head, a glimmer of hope rekindling in his eyes. "Diana, don't worry. I'll go see her tomorrow. I'll make sure she sees my sincerity."

"Good, I'll go with you," I said without hesitation. "Lila and I are good friends. We've been through a lot together and understand each other well. Having me there might make things less awkward, and I can help you express your feelings better."

David's eyes brimmed with gratitude, slightly reddening as a small, appreciative smile spread across his lips.

I realized that smile was full of hope for the future and deep gratitude towards me.

The next day, we arrived early at the hospital where Lila was recovering.

David stood at the door of her room, his hands trembling slightly. He took several deep breaths but couldn't muster the courage to push the door open.

I gently touched his arm and said softly, "Don't be nervous. I'm here with you."

David turned to look at me, nodded, and slowly reached out to open the door.

The room was simply furnished, with only the necessary medical equipment and a few lush green plants that added a touch of life to the otherwise sterile space.

Lila was sitting by the bed, holding a book. Though her face was still pale, a new light sparkled in her eyes.

When David saw her, his eyes instantly misted over, his lips quivering as he stammered, "Lila, I came to see you."

Lila gave a faint smile and said, "You're here. I was just thinking about going for a walk since the weather is nice. Come with me."Hearing Lila's words, David and I exchanged a glance, and David quickly nodded. "Sure, we'll go with you."

I walked over to Lila, helping her to her feet, and asked with concern, "Are you up for it? If you get tired, we can cut the walk short."

Lila gently waved her hand and said softly, "It's fine. I've been feeling much better lately. The therapist you recommended has been great."

Hearing this, I felt genuinely relieved and held her hand tightly. "That's good. I've been so worried about you, afraid that the past would keep haunting you. Seeing you get better makes me so happy. Therapy really does work."

No one knew that after giving birth to Skylar, I went through severe postpartum depression.

During that time, I was trapped in endless pain and confusion. Even on sunny days, everything seemed lifeless to me.

Every night, I found myself trapped between insomnia and nightmares, overwhelmed by fear and despair about what lay ahead. The endless tasks of caring for Skylar and managing the company weighed heavily. In the quiet of the night, I often stared at Skylar in her crib, doubting myself and feeling like a failure as a single mom.

"Can you grab my hat for me?" Lila's voice interrupted my thoughts, and I quickly responded.

Seeing Lila gradually recover made me genuinely happy.

On one hand, I was truly joyful that she was overcoming her struggles, knowing how tough her journey had been. On the other hand, I was grateful that I had made it through my own dark times.

We walked with Lila out of the hospital room and into the courtyard. The warm sunlight bathed us, and Lila tilted her head up to soak it in, taking a deep breath and smiling brightly.

She said, "It's been so long since I've felt the sun like this."

We strolled along the hospital's path, surrounded by lush trees and the occasional chirping of birds.

As we walked, Lila suddenly stopped and looked at a blooming flower by the path, her eyes filled with tenderness.

"Look at this flower, thriving so beautifully even in the shadows. If it can thrive, so can I." She crouched down, gently touching the petals.

Seeing this, David quickly spoke up, "Lila, I'm so sorry for everything you've been through. The Wilson family owes you so much. I'll do everything I can to help you find happiness again."

Lila stood up and turned to David, her tone calm. "David, let's not dwell on the past. Having you both here with me now makes me feel lucky."

I wiped the sweat from Lila's forehead and looked at David, speaking earnestly. "The past is behind us. Let's look forward. David, you're trying to save the Wilson family and make amends with Lila, and that's great. Lila, you're getting better. Our days will only get brighter."

Lila nodded, her gaze firm. "Yes, I just want to get better and return to the firm. Those days of hard work were tough but fulfilling. When I go back, I want to make the firm even better."

We kept walking and chatting, with sunlight streaming through the leaves, enveloping us in its warmth. A soft breeze carried the fragrance of blossoms, lifting the burdens from our hearts.
