Chapter 100 What a Coincidence
If Ashley had asked Charles this question the first day he met Luna, he would've been unsure.
But after spending these past few days together, he could confidently tell Ashley, "Mom, she's not like that. The truth will come out soon."
Charles was firm. Ashley knew her son well. If he was this certain, it meant public opinion would definitely shift.
After hanging up, Ashley stood up and saw Anna coming in. She greeted her warmly.
"Auntie, were you just on the phone with Charles? Is he still super busy? You should remind him to take care of himself."
Anna's words seemed caring, but she really just wanted to see Charles.
She had heard Ashley was supposed to meet Charles's wife, who had mistakenly gotten the marriage license, this week. But for some reason, Ashley didn't go.
Anna came early in the morning to get the scoop.
"He's on a business trip and won't be back for a while." Ashley made up an excuse to brush her off.
First, she didn't want to disappoint Anna. Second, Charles had made it clear he wouldn't meet Anna, so she had to find a way to explain and take her in as a goddaughter.
"Charles is an executive at the company, right? He's always so busy."
Anna asked casually. Ashley smiled, "He's just in a regular management position."
"By the way, Auntie, did you see today's trending news? I know that Luna!"
Anna didn't know Luna was the one Charles got the marriage license with. She just recognized Luna from the trending news photo as the woman who had bullied her during a carpool.
"You know her?" Ashley looked a bit incredulous.
What a coincidence! The woman her son mistakenly married and the one she introduced as a marriage prospect actually knew each other.
"Auntie, do you remember the carpool incident I told you about? That Luna is the woman who was rude and unreasonable! So when I saw the news about her, I wasn't surprised at all. I totally believe she could do anything!"
"During the carpool, I kept backing down, but she kept pushing and making things difficult for me. At the time, I thought it was better to be kind and let it go. Seeing her on the trending news made me realize that karma eventually catches up."
Anna looked innocent, portraying herself as a victim who had endured grievances.
Ashley paused for a moment.
Should she believe Charles or Anna?
Ashley's gaze fell on Anna's pure and innocent face, deep in thought.
At the Lee Group.
Charles had been busy all morning and didn't have lunch until almost two o'clock.
Looking at his usual meal, Charles had no appetite. Instead, he missed Luna's corn pancakes and pumpkin porridge.
When Max came in, he saw Charles staring blankly at his food. He thought there was some unresolved company issue because Charles rarely had this expression while eating.
"Mr. Lee, is there something wrong with the new project?" Max asked.
Charles snapped out of it and got back to reality, putting down his utensils.
"No, it's nothing. How's your investigation going?"
What Charles cared about most was how much evidence Max had gathered.
Luna had gone out early in the morning, definitely to gather evidence as well. He wondered if she had eaten yet.
"Mr. Lee, we found it! And there's an unexpected surprise!"
Max had come to report the good news to Charles.
