Chapter 156 Charles Felt Helpless
After the doctor left, Charles messaged Eric on Facebook about Luna's foot injury. It was late, and he didn't want to startle Eric with a call.
If Eric saw the message, he'd reply; if not, so be it.
Luna didn't go home today and told Eric she was on a mission to keep him from worrying.
CharlieC: [I heard your sister hurt her foot? What happened?]
Eric replied instantly.
PureSib (Eric): [Charles, Luna didn't want me to say anything, but since you asked, I'll tell you. It happened the day you two argued. When you left, you knocked over a chair, and it landed right on Luna's foot. She even took a few days off because of it.]
With Luna not at home, Eric couldn't sleep well. He always felt something was wrong, so he hadn't slept soundly.
Charles fell silent.
PureSib: [Charles, why are you asking about this all of a sudden? Is something wrong with Luna? If there is, please don't keep anything from me! I can handle it! Luna is now my sole remaining kin. I'll stay strong!]
Charles knew Eric, though only fifteen, was very thoughtful. If he didn't tell him, Eric would definitely overthink.
So he briefly explained Luna's situation.
There was no reply for a long time.
CharlieC: [Eric, Luna is with me, so you can rest assured. The doctor said it's just a superficial injury. I'm telling you this because I trust you can handle it like a man. So don't make me worry about you too.]
PureSib: [I understand. Thank you, Charles. Since you trust me enough to tell me, I won't let you down. I'll take care of myself and wait for Luna to come back.]
Seeing Eric's sincere and calm tone, Charles advised him to rest early and then put down his phone.
The problem now was changing Luna's clothes.
Charles went out to look for a female nurse but couldn't find one. Most patients were asleep at this hour, and he didn't want to bother the busy nurse on duty. Calling a maid would take at least an hour, and all the other bodyguards were men.
Charles finally decided to do it himself. If worse came to worst, he could just put the hospital gown over her clothes. But he quickly dismissed that idea.
Given that it was late autumn, and Luna was already wearing thermal pants. Adding a hospital gown on top would make her look like a snowball, and she likely wouldn't be able to turn over comfortably in her sleep.
What really got on Charles's nerves was that Luna's thermal pants were actually tights, so she didn't need to wear socks. How was he supposed to take them off? And she was wearing jeans over the tights. He didn't even have the courage to unbutton her jeans.
Feeling helpless, Charles decided to bite the bullet and try to take off her jeans first. After all, she had thermal pants underneath, and he could put the hospital gown over them.
Charles stood up, lowered his head, and slowly moved his hands towards the button of Luna's jeans. He kept glancing at her from the corner of his eye, afraid she might wake up and he wouldn't be able to explain.
But Charles rarely wore jeans himself, and now he was unbuttoning someone else's. He struggled for five minutes and still couldn't get it undone. He was sweating profusely.
Just as he was about to give up and find a nurse to help, a cold voice suddenly sounded in his ear, "What are you doing?"
Luna had woken up, her eyes coldly fixed on his face. The air was filled with an eerie, desolate atmosphere.
