Chapter 83 He Wasn't Wrong
Charles got shoved aside by Luna and stood there, fuming. He muttered, "Let her leave if she wants to! Her legs, her choice! Can I even stop her?"
But after hearing the door slam, Charles hesitated. He told himself he wasn't giving in to Luna, no way! He wasn't wrong! He just didn't want her out alone so late! If Eric needed help, he should offer it too.
By the time Charles opened the door to chase after her, Luna was already gone.
Luna had called an Uber driven by Sam Perez, someone she knew. Sam was the guy she met when Eric got sick, and she hitchhiked in the rain. That night, Sam helped her get Eric to the hospital.
Sam had left his number, saying they could call him if they needed a ride in the future.
After Luna got in the car, Sam noticed she didn't look well.
"Luna, have you been working too hard lately? Don't push yourself too much. You need to relax sometimes. I remember when I was in a bad place, I wanted to drive into the river, and if you hadn't flagged me down, I might not be here."
Sam tried to cheer Luna up with some humor.
Luna smiled. "Sam, back then you lost everything gambling, sold your three taxis and six storefronts, but now you're driving Uber and bought a house. Even though it's small, it's still a place to call home."
"And if you hadn't taken us to the hospital that night, Eric might not have made it through."
Talking about that night made it feel like it was just yesterday for Luna. She even got pneumonia from being in the rain, let alone Eric.
"The rain was so heavy that night, and I almost hit you. But if you hadn't talked to me in the car, I was planning to drop you off and then end my life." Sam sighed repeatedly.
"Isn't everything great now? Your daughter is in high school, a top one in Bright City. She's sensible and obedient. So you have motivation to work, right?" Luna replied.
"Yes, speaking of my daughter, not to brag, she's really a blessing." Sam responded proudly.
Talking about his daughter opened Sam up. Luna's mood improved as well.
"By the way, Luna, I heard that Eric's condition might be covered by health insurance. You might finally see some hope!"
"I hope so," Luna nodded. She had fantasized about it many times before, but each time she was disappointed. She understood that the process was complex and cumbersome, not as easy as it seemed. Now she finally had some hope and believed good news would come soon.
Charles, unable to catch up with Luna, returned home first. When he got back, he looked upset, and Max was too scared to breathe. He thought, 'The most formidable person is undoubtedly Mr. Lee. He is young and promising, decisive and efficient, even intimidating seasoned negotiators at the table.'
But today, Max witnessed Luna throwing the agreement at Mr. Lee's nose and tossing a banana at him. Charles' position as the most formidable person in Max's mind was now shaky.
Max pondered, 'Even if Luna doesn't know Mr. Lee's identity, his presence is intimidating, and she still dares to act. If she isn't formidable, what is she?'
Charles sat on the couch, still fuming, his brow furrowed and face gloomy. He suddenly looked up and asked Max, "Tell me! Was there something wrong with that agreement? Did she have to react so strongly? Isn't it just a normal prenuptial agreement?"
After asking, Charles realized he seemed to want a different answer, not just someone flattering him.
