Chapter 174 Just Wait and See
Emily held Tommy and headed for the door.
"I don't want to go shopping. I'll just take Tommy for a walk. I'll call Luna when I'm out."
Emily already suspected Wendy was targeting Luna.
She remembered Bobby asking her to get Luna to help someone out of trouble a few days ago, and she had scolded him for it.
She told Bobby not to drag Luna into it. Luna would never do anything illegal.
Emily thought Wendy was helping Bobby.
"Make sure you set up dinner with her tonight, got it? She has to come." Emily was already out the door, and Wendy was still shouting.
She reached the small park near her home and called Luna, explaining the situation.
On the other end, Luna thought for a moment and said, "I think I know why."
"Why?" Emily asked.
"Alice and Wendy have known each other for a long time. Alice even came to your wedding. Alice and Ella have always wanted to meet me but couldn't. They even went to the police station to find me, but I wasn't there. Alice must have asked Wendy to trick me into coming to your house, and tonight Alice and Ella will probably show up."
Luna's words made everything click for Emily.
"Wendy must have been bribed. How dare she use me to get to you! She's got some nerve!"
Emily finally understood Wendy's game. It was a trap!
She thought, 'With Wendy's intelligence, there's no way she could have outmaneuvered me all morning.'
"I'll tell her later that you're coming tonight. Since she's teaming up with outsiders, I'll make sure she pays for it."
Emily didn't have a good relationship with her family; her closest people were Luna and Summer. She wouldn't let anyone scheme against them without payback.
"Emily, take care of yourself. You don't need to confront them head-on," Luna worried, especially since Emily had Tommy to look after.
"Don't worry. It's just a show. I'll give them a show within a show tonight."
Emily shared her plan with Luna, who couldn't help but laugh.
"Luna, just wait and see the show."
Emily hung up and pushed Tommy back home. She had been schemed against by her in-laws so many times; it was time to turn the tables.
When Emily got back, she told Wendy that Luna was free to come over tonight and mentioned that Luna liked crab, sweet shrimp, and salmon, so Wendy should buy plenty.
Wendy thought that since Alice was footing the bill this time, there was no need to save money. She bought over three hundred dollars' worth of seafood without hesitation.
Wendy, always scheming, figured that even if they couldn't finish it, she could send it to her eldest son and youngest daughter the next morning.
After all, someone else was paying.
Emily watched Wendy bustling around and couldn't help but sneer inwardly.
By 5:30 P.M., Emily saw Wendy make a phone call at the door and guessed that Alice and Ella were coming. But they probably wouldn't dare enter until Luna arrived, fearing Emily might secretly tell Luna not to come if she saw them.
"Emily, what time will Luna be here?" Wendy hung up the phone and asked with a big smile.
Emily replied casually, "Luna had a task this afternoon, so she might be a bit late, around seven or eight. If it's too late, we can reschedule."
"That won't do! Everyone else is already here! She..." Wendy got anxious at the mention of rescheduling and almost let something slip.
Seeing Emily glance at her, Wendy quickly changed her tone, "I mean, the food is already bought. If we put it back in the fridge, it won't be fresh. It's okay, we'll wait for her."
Wendy couldn't hide her anxiety and turned to make another phone call at the door.
