Chapter 160 We Are Bosom Friend
"Is Summer going too?"
Luna heard this and wasn't surprised, but she sighed softly.
Looked like Summer's mom had scored another invite, trying to get Summer hitched to some rich guy. This has always been her mom's big dream.
"I saw Summer's name and it rang a bell, then I remembered she's your friend."
"The Nelson family in Bright City is constantly in the shadow of the Lee Group. They think a marriage alliance will help, but the Lee Group doesn't play that game. Charlie's got his own plans and big goals."
"My grandpa and uncles don't get it. The Nelsons don't need a marriage partner; they need an heir with the guts and determination like Charlie."
"Actually, the Nelsons haven't been far behind the Lee Group lately, but my grandpa and uncles are too greedy and always fight among themselves at the worst times. One of my uncles, who is also the most capable one, was pushed out and started his own thing, and he's doing pretty well."
"How can the Nelsons ever hope to surpass the Lees like this?"
"By the way, Luna, should I introduce Summer to anyone tonight?" Evelyn asked.
Evelyn couldn't stop talking about her family stuff with Luna.
She saw Luna as a great listener and a true friend.
Since Summer was Luna's friend, she trusted Luna's judgment and wanted to help Summer if she could.
Luna couldn't help but smile.
"Don't introduce Summer to anyone! Just pretend you don't know her. Otherwise, she'll see you as an enemy."
Evelyn was stunned. "Why? Luna, if I didn't know you, I'd think you and Summer were fake friends!"
Luna explained, "Summer and I are bosom friends! I know she doesn't want to go to this kind of party, but her mom's forcing her. She has plenty of ways to mess things up."
"Just wait and see! If Summer's mom knows you two are friends, she'll make sure Summer sticks to you."
"I see," Evelyn said, finally getting it.
"Summer and I can team up! I want to mess things up too," Evelyn muttered.
Luna said nothing more.
After a while, Evelyn got a call from the Nelson family and had to leave.
Before she left, she asked for Summer's number. Luna could already imagine the chaos tonight, but she couldn't be there.
After Evelyn left, Luna headed to the bathroom. But as soon as she took a step, her foot started to ache. She wondered if the ointment was working.
"Where are you going?" Charles walked in, saw her pained expression, and immediately stepped forward to support her.
"I'm going to the bathroom." Luna told the truth.
She thought Charles would let go, but he nodded. The next moment, he bent down and picked her up.
"Ah... you..."
"I'll carry you to the bathroom door."
Charles's tone and expression were calm as he steadily carried Luna.
"No need. I can walk by myself!" Luna protested.
The short walk felt like forever to Luna.
Halfway there, Charles adjusted his hold because Luna was squirming and almost slipped out of his arms.
Luna was dizzy from the jostling, but she felt like cursing but held back.
"Your foot got injured because of me. It's only right that I carry you."
With that, Charles gently placed Luna on the ground.
Luna's immediate reaction was that she was doomed.
Seeing her standing still, Charles asked in a deep voice, "What's wrong? Do you need my help with the next step?"
Luna said, "Get lost!"
