Chapter 64 All Bark and No Bite
Luna's question made Charles laugh in exasperation.
He focused on driving and ignored her.
After parking the car, they got out and walked out of the parking lot. Charles suddenly lowered his voice.
"Something's up."
Hearing this, Luna immediately became alert.
"Who? Where?"
Luna moved closer to Charles, her face calm but her eyes scanning the surroundings.
"It's my mother's people. They're tailing us from behind. She probably thinks we're putting on an act to deceive her, so she's secretly watching us."
Charles' words made Luna suddenly understand.
"Parents' hearts are always full of worry."
After saying that, Luna naturally linked her arm with Charles'.
"So, should we put on a show for her?"
Luna didn't dare to look back, fearing it would be too obvious.
"The way you're holding my arm looks too fake. Be more natural," Charles said, taking the opportunity to hold Luna's hand.
He held her hand and walked back.
This was the second instance of Luna holding his hand. Despite her impulse to withdraw, she recalled her commitment to assist Charles with the act for a month. Moreover, it was merely hand-holding.
So, Luna naturally held his hand.
Out of the corner of his eye, Charles noticed that Ashley's people had left, but he didn't let go.
Because he found that Luna, who was now cooperating obediently, had lost her previous sharpness and resistance. She was actually quite cute now.
She looked much more pleasing to the eye.
Holding her hand, he didn't feel anything wrong or uncomfortable.
In fact, it felt quite nice.
But why did Ashley send someone to watch him and Luna?
He had already said they would meet in a few days.
Did Anna say or do something behind his back?
Charles frowned slightly, his face darkening.
Luna noticed that he suddenly tightened his grip on her hand and asked softly, "What's wrong? Are you not satisfied with my performance?"
Charles shook off his reverie and returned to his senses, shaking his head.
"It's not because of you. Your performance is passable. I was thinking about something else."
"Passable? Don't set your standards too high! I tell you that holding hands is my limit! Don't get any ideas!"
Luna clearly misunderstood Charles' meaning.
Her words made Charles laugh in exasperation.
"Are you the one overthinking? Do you think I want to kiss you or sleep with you? I don't even like you."
Charles, usually a reserved person, found himself saying such bold words to a young woman for the first time.
Even he was a bit shocked after saying it.
Luna didn't care if it was like him or not. She suddenly tightened her grip on his hand, causing Charles to gasp in pain.
He tried to pull his hand back, but she held on tightly.
She looked tall and slim, but she had surprising strength.
"Luna! Let go!" Charles ordered in a low voice.
Luna snorted.
"Mr. Lee! Are you brave enough to step over the line and give it a shot? It's best not to even consider it. Being good-looking doesn't guarantee that every woman is interested in you!“
“I've heard that the more intimidating men appear on the surface, the less competent they often are! Are you familiar with the phrase "all show and no substance"?"
Luna's words made Charles' face change several times. He had thought holding her hand felt nice, but now any good feelings had vanished.
Charles was angry and shook off Luna's hand, walking away.
Looking at her sweaty palm, Luna muttered behind his back, "Is this your first time holding hands? Why are you sweating so much? Or... are you weak?"
Charles retorted,"Whether I'm weak or not, you can find out for yourself!"
