Chapter 9 I Want to Take My Brother
"Charles! Wait!"
Hearing Luna's voice, Charles signaled to the bodyguard with a glance and stood to the side next to another black business car parked by the roadside.
The bodyguard, being quick-witted, also returned to the car.
Luna handed a takeout meal to Charles.
"I told you I'd treat you to a meal,so please take it. And here's your key..."
"If you don't want the key, just throw it away."
A flash of disdain crossed Charles' face, because he never ate food from such roadside stalls.
Luna wanted to say something more, but Joah called, so she had to run back with the takeout.
Watching her back, Charles' expression remained cold and indifferent.
'Luna was just a little errand girl! Did she really think she was an elite in the police force?'Charles thought.
Charles waited until she was far away before getting into the nearby Rolls-Royce.
As soon as he got in the car, he smelled the takeout in his hand and frowned, handing it to the bodyguard.
"Throw it away."
The bodyguard got out of the car and tried to stuff the takeout into a trash can, but the opening was too small, so he ended up placing the sandwich on top.
Inside the car, assistant Max Carter sniffed and said, "I heard these roadside stalls use the cheapest ingredients. When thinking about it, I lose my appetite. "
Charles' face remained dark as he vowed, "I'll never come back here again!"
’I should have been resting at home at this hour, but Luna had tricked me into waiting at a shabby little shop for over an hour.'Charles thought.
As Charles was feeling frustrated, Ashley's call came in.
"Mom, what's up?"
"Charles, Anna is such a good girl. She knows you registered the wrong person, and she told you to focus on your own matters first. I'd like you to come see her, but she wouldn't let me. She even said it's okay if she can't marry you. You really can't let Anna down."
Hearing Ashley's words, Charles said in a deep voice, "Mom, do you know what 'retreat to advance' means?"
Ashley was taken aback and then complained, "You always think people are too complicated."
"Mom, actually, I have a new idea. I want to give it a try with Luna. If it works out, we can be together without the hassle of waiting for the divorce to be finalized before getting married again. As for your lifesaver, Anna, you can take her as a sister or goddaughter."
Ashley was stunned by Charles' words. Before she could react, Charles hung up .
"This child... Why did he hang up? I had wanted to pass the phone to you so you could talk to him."
Ashley looked apologetically at Anna.
Anna had delicate features, fair skin, and moist eyes, exuding an aura of vulnerability. At first glance, she looked like a pure and harmless little white rabbit.
"Aunt Ashley, don't disturb Charles' work. I'm fine now." Anna said, but she frowned slightly, as if she had pulled the wound on her leg."You just don't like to trouble others. Don't push yourself too hard."
Ashley, a wealthy woman from a prominent family, had been safeguarded by the Lee family for years. She smoothly navigated through school, marriage, and motherhood without any obstacles.
She had suspected that Anna might have other motives for saving her, but after testing her, she found that Anna was genuinely simple-minded.
Anna smiled and shifted the topic to Charles, "Has Charles sorted things out with the girl he mistakenly registered with?"
"Maybe. You don't need to worry about that. He could handle well."
Seeing Ashley's awkward expression, Anna felt an inexplicable sense of crisis.
