Chapter 185 Heartbreak Wasn't an Excuse for Self-Destruction

"Luna, you promised to cook for me. How long has it been? Afraid I'll eat you out of house and home?" Warren blocked Luna, insisting on a meal at her place.

Luna stopped, looked at him calmly, and said, "My husband is taking Eric and me out for dinner. He's here to pick us up. When Summer's free next week, I'll invite you all."

She made it clear she wouldn't meet Warren alone; Summer would join.

"Why can't you invite just me? Or I can invite you," Warren persisted.

"Why so many questions?" Luna rolled her eyes.

"Then I'll join you, Charles, and Eric for dinner. I'll pay for myself."

Warren wanted to use the dinner to get close to Charles and size him up.

'If anyone's awkward, it'll be Charles,' Warren thought.

"Goodbye and good riddance!" Luna gestured for him to move aside.

"Luna, I..."

"My husband's here. Goodbye."

Luna quickly ran out the door.

Charles's car had just arrived. Luna got in the car directly without a backward glance at Warren, leaving him behind.

Warren watched her get into Charles's car, then turned to his own.

He suddenly wanted to drag racing, yearning for letting loose.

But how would that be any different from his past self?

He shook his head and smiled bitterly.

Luna and Summer had worked hard to pull him out of his past. He couldn't go back.

Heartbreak wasn't an excuse for self-destruction. He couldn't let Luna down.

At a buffet restaurant.

Charles chose a different place this time, wanting to give Luna and Eric a new experience.

"This place opened a few months ago, specializing in king crab."

After sitting down, Charles helped Luna cut open the crab legs.

Eric followed his actions and learned quickly.

Luna's job was to eat. Soon, her plate was piled high with crab meat.

All the crab meat Charles and Eric cut went to her, leaving her no time to eat anything else.

"In the future, if you have meal vouchers, bring your parents here. Don't just treat us," Luna said, feeling a bit guilty.

Seeing Eric eat happily, she felt gratified.

Charles, with fluid and graceful movements, deftly cut open a crab leg, using a specialized tool to extract the meat and place it on her plate.

"You cook for me at home every day. Labor is the most expensive thing nowadays, so you don't need to feel guilty," Charles said, continuously shelling crab meat for her until his phone rang.

He washed his hands with lemon water and stepped out to take the call.

"Charles, I need to tell you something, and you can't refuse."

As soon as Ashley spoke, Charles sensed it was about Anna again. So he listened quietly.

"Anna is leaving and probably won't be back for a long time. She regrets not seeing you. You owe her an explanation. Why not meet her for a meal and clear things up before she leaves?"

Ashley originally thought Charles and Luna wouldn't last, and he'd have plenty of chances to meet Anna in the future.

But after meeting Luna, he realized she had some skills. She could get along peacefully with Charles, which was impressive.

Ashley also understood that Charles was determined not to remarry.

Charles's face was cold and stern. He didn't want to agree initially, but after meeting Luna, he learned the importance of addressing conflicts face-to-face.

"Alright, let's find a day next week."

Charles agreed so readily that Ashley was surprised.
