"I ain't going back with you! All you spit out are lies! Luna's the one who really gives a damn about me! You just view her as a pawn!"
As Eric finished, Alice scrambled up from the ground, raising her hand to hit him.
"Stop!"
"Who dares to hit my brother!"
Luna’s voice cut through the air as she rushed over, dropping her grocery bags. She had just come out of the supermarket and saw the whole scene.
"Luna, they’re accusing you falsely!"
Eric grabbed Luna's hand, tears welling up, his hands trembling.
Luna's eyes fell on the bruises on Eric's face.
"Who hurt you?"
Her voice was cold and piercing, like a wounded beast ready to pounce.
"It was Ella."
Eric pointed at Ella. Luna's gaze locked onto Ella, making her step back in fear, twist her ankle, and fall.
"Luna! You pushed me! You pushed me!"
Ella, who had fallen on her own, falsely accused Luna. Alice, standing nearby, raised her hands, ready to hit Luna.
"You gonna lay a hand on me? Go on, give it a shot! Cameras all over this place! They'll prove I didn't lay a finger on her—she took a tumble all on her own! You lot even hit my young brother, still a kid! I'm suing, no doubt about it."
Luna shook with fury but struggled to rein in her emotions. Can't afford to lose it in her line of work, not when she's got Eric to look after.
"Sue us? I’m your grandmother! Have you forgotten I didn’t take a single penny of your father’s death benefits and funeral expenses? But you want to sue us? Why doesn’t God take you, you little brat!"
Alice , used to being domineering, was never exposed by a younger generation like this. Hearing Luna’s threat, Alice started wailing and beating her thighs.
"You know very well why you didn’t take that money!" Luna said.
Her words startled both Ella and Alice. Ella quickly got up, her eyes darting between Luna and Alice. Seeing Alice’s shocked expression, Ella didn’t dare to speak.
"What? Did I hit the mark? You think I don’t know just because you didn’t tell me!"
Luna was bluffing, but their reactions confirmed her suspicion. Alice didn’t refuse the money back then because she couldn’t take it, but Luna still didn’t know why.
"Luna! How heartless you are! I kindly took you and your brother in for four years, and now you bite the hand that feeds you!"
"Alice didn't pocket that cash for your and your brother's tomorrow! You're truly thankless! Today, I'll school you on your old man's behalf!"
Ella moved to hit Luna. But she was at 5 feet 3 inches, she couldn’t reach. Luna pushed Eric’s wheelchair to the side, stepped forward, and faced Ella.
"I’m right here! Try hitting me! I’ll settle the score for Eric’s injuries too!"
"You claim to have looked after us for four years, but what about the $3,000 monthly allowance I wired over for living costs? Did it vanish into thin air? Are you brave enough to flash those transfer receipts I shot your way?"
"And the gifts I bought for Alice during holidays, all purchased online, have transaction records! Do you dare to show me?"
