Chapter 196 It's an Eyesore

The child's mom suddenly put on a big show, leaving all the neighbors totally stunned. Theodore, being the seasoned guy he was, just gave her a cold stare.

Luna frowned and was about to help her up when the child's mom started bawling. "My life is so tough. My son’s been sick since he was born. He didn’t mean to pee in the elevator; he just couldn’t hold it. We’ve sold our house to pay for his medical bills. Now the elevator’s broken, and we can’t afford to fix it. Don’t be fooled by his chubby cheeks; he’s actually really sick. He’s not a normal kid."

The child's mom cried while pulling her kid to sit beside her. The child, used to his mom's drama, sat obediently next to her, wailing along but without shedding a single tear.

Seeing this, the neighbors all looked at them with sympathy. If it were true, it would be understandable. Theodore sneered silently, 'This act is so fake! It's an eyesore!'

Luna calmly walked up to the child's mom and squatted down. Theodore thought she was fooled by the poor acting and felt a bit disappointed in her. But then Luna spoke calmly, "Ma'am, what illness does your child have? What are the symptoms? Which hospital did you go to?"

Luna had a brother with a rare disease, so she knew a lot about both rare and common childhood illnesses. Looking at the child's rosy cheeks and bright eyes, he didn’t seem sick at all. If the mom couldn’t answer, she was probably lying.

The child's mom stammered, "My... my child has... kidney problems."

Luna frowned. "Is it kidney failure? Uremia?"

The child's mom thought Luna believed her and went along with it. "Yes, yes. Uremia."

Luna said, "Patients with uremia usually have trouble urinating and aren’t prone to incontinence. They often have generalized swelling and a waxy or pale complexion, unlike his appearance."

Luna’s debunking was logical and well-founded. Theodore nodded in satisfaction. What a clever girl, just like his younger self. She didn’t disappoint him. She was calm and collected, yet able to pretend. He thought she might just have a chance to outsmart Charles.

The child's mom said, "What... what do you mean? Are you trying to trap me? Do you think I would curse my own child with an illness?

She continued, "To treat him, I scrimp and save, picking up discarded vegetables at the wholesale market every day. My child’s clothes and shoes are all hand-me-downs from relatives. To pay for his treatment, his father and I work three jobs each day. We deliver food during the day, drive for Uber at night, and do valet services in the middle of the night. Just because you’re a police officer doesn’t mean you can falsely accuse us common folk! You’re too cruel. Why do you look down on us?"

The child's mom was skilled at twisting the story. Seeing people taking photos and videos, she began to distort the facts.

Luna remained squatting in front of her, unfazed and unangered. Having just gone through a cyberbullying incident, she was more mature and experienced. She wouldn’t be swayed by the child's mom's words. Luna asked, "Ma'am, then tell us, what exactly is your child’s illness?"

"I know them. This kid isn’t sick at all! They’re just pretending!" At that moment, a clear male voice rang out from the crowd, and everyone turned to look in the direction of the voice.
