Chapter 182 Awkward Luna, Silent Charles
Seeing Charles about to puke, Luna felt a bit awkward.
Earlier, she suggested grabbing something from the convenience store, and he didn't object. She assumed Charles had eaten convenience store food before.
"Want me to grab you a burger from across the street?"
Luna felt she owed him for standing up for her today and making Alice and her friends mad.
"No need. It's just that your cooking these past few days has spoiled me. This sandwich doesn't compare. Like you said, it's hard to go from luxury to frugality."
Charles spoke calmly and took another bite. The sandwich was mostly bread with a bit of filling in the middle, which wasn't that bad.
He noticed he was getting along with Luna better and even knew how to use her words effectively.
Luna knew he was trying to make her feel better.
She suggeated, "I'll treat you to a buffet dinner tonight. You pick the place."
Luna had mentioned before that if they went for another buffet, it would be her treat.
Charles replied, "Then the buffet vouchers my client gave me will just go to waste."
Luna went quiet. What could she say to that?
"By the way, how did you show up earlier?" Luna asked after finishing her sandwich.
Charles had an excuse ready. "I was just passing by after delivering something to a client at noon. Didn't expect to run into you."
"But they saw you today. They might find your company address and cause trouble."
Luna knew how shameless Alice could be. She didn't want her problems affecting Charles's work.
"Our company's security is tight. They won't get in easily. Besides, I have nothing to hide. If they sneak in, I'll call the police."
Charles was confident in his company's security and his bodyguards.
"If you need any help, just let me know. I should get back now."
Charles nodded and started the car to take her back.
Of course, he couldn't tell her he had really wanted to have lunch with her and had purposely gone to her workplace hoping to run into her.
Charles felt his appetite had become oddly specific because of her. If he didn't have lunch with her or eat her homemade food, everything else tasted bland.
On the way back, the midday sun shone through the window onto her face, wrapping her in a warm, pure light.
As he drove, he occasionally glanced at her, pretending to check the right-side mirror, but his peripheral vision was on Luna's face, which was so clean and warm, inexplicably brightening the entire season.
When they arrived at the police station, Charles even drove to the opposite side of the street to let her get out closer.
Luna thanked him and tried to unbuckle her seatbelt, but it wouldn't release.
"Let me take a look."
Charles pulled the handbrake, leaned over, and tugged at the buckle a few times.
The buckle finally released but snagged on Luna's sweater.
Instinctively, Charles pulled on it, but the sweater couldn't withstand the force. It unraveled and caught on her bra strap.
The strap snapped back against Luna's chest.
Only girls understood the pain of a bra strap snapping back. Luna gasped in pain.
A small hole appeared in the front of her sweater, revealing her flesh-colored bra underneath.
Luna was embarrassed, and Charles was silent.
"Um... you can wear my jacket back. I have another one in my office," Charles said, handing her his jacket.
Luna didn't take it and gestured for him to turn around.
Charles was puzzled. "You can just put it on. You don't need to take anything off. What's the difference if I turn around or not?"
Charles thought his previous impression of her not being fussy might need reconsideration. Wasn't Luna being fussy now?
Luna took a deep breath and said, "You just snapped my bra strap!"
