Chapter 23 Thoughts That Shouldn't Be

"Charles, I need to go to the bathroom."

After saying this, Eric turned his wheelchair and headed towards the bathroom.

At the bathroom door, he braced himself on the wheelchair and slowly stood up.

"I'll help you."

Charles stepped forward to support him, but Eric waved him off.

"I can do it myself! Don't worry. I'll be fine."

Eric smiled at Charles after speaking.

A sickly pale smile bloomed on his face, as if his face had been painted with vivid and stunning makeup.

Charles nodded and didn't insist further, but he didn't leave either. Instead, he stood at the bathroom door waiting.

Looking down, he noticed his suit had gotten dirty , probably from the wheelchair tires.

He frowned, took off his suit, and went to his bedroom to get a new one to change into.

He had previously asked the butler to bring a few sets of clothes.

The dirty suit was temporarily placed on the sofa.

Charles had just changed his clothes when he heard strange noises coming from the bathroom.

"Hey... are you okay?"

Charles wanted to call out to Eric, but he realized he hadn't remembered his name.

Not just his, but also Luna's.

The bathroom door opened, and Eric with pale gace, was barely standing while holding onto the door frame.

"You can stand on your own?" Charles looked at Eric leaning against the door frame, shocked.

His mind was racing.

Eric could clearly walk on his own, so why did Ms. Brown make him use a wheelchair?

Charles couldn't help but recall a news story he had seen a few days ago. A mother who in order to gain sympathy and money, made her healthy daughter pretend to be sick and even tortured her.

Could it be that he...

"Charles, actually, I'm not completely unable to walk or stand. It's just that I'm more prone to falling and getting hurt than most people."

"At home, my sister helps me walk and exercise, but when we were staying at Aunt Ella's, she didn't have time to take care of me, so she made me sit in a wheelchair."

"That way, she didn't have to help me practice walking, and she didn't have to take me out. Earlier at Sandra's, I held it in and didn't go to the bathroom because I was afraid I'd fall and it was hard for she to support me."

"I accidentally knocked over the storage cabinet by the toilet. I'll clean it up later."

Eric spoke clearly and softly.

He was unfortunate, but compared to many children with the same condition, he was lucky.

He had mild intellectual disability, but he could express his wishes and thoughts clearly.

"You're very sensible. Go rest in the living room, I'll clean up."

Charles had a good impression of Eric.

It might also be his sympathy for a sick child.

"You used to live at your aunt's house, wasn't it good?"

Charles asked as he picked up the fallen storage cabinet.

Eric softly replied, "Aunt Ella would always tell me how much I ate and used. If I used one extra sheet of toilet paper, she'd talk about it all day."

"She'd even scold me for flushing the toilet, so I could barely drink a few sips of water a day at her house."

"Luna had to go to school and work. Our parents' compensation was swindled by our aunt and uncle. The remaining savings were only enough for my basic treatment. So, the more I can do myself, the easier it is for Luna."

Eric spoke honestly.

Actually, his aunt did even worse things.

Worried about his nighttime bathroom trips, Luna bought him adult diapers. Ella secretly took them and sold them cheaply to a bedridden elderly neighbor.

Not to mention Ella taking his chocolates and other snacks.

"I know Luna is very tired. Her grades could have gotten her into a better department, but she chose STF to take care of me."

Eric hoped that Charles would go easier on Luna by hearing that.

To Eric, Luna was his everything.
